He's a sorry excuse for a human being... sure, he paid his price to society, but to be allowed to be in a "job" where you're looked up to as a "role model," no way. He should be working in some corner basement cubicle somewhere and forgotten, not out for kids to cheer for and learn poor life lessons from...

Lurkers Please Read
by IWillBeDubbedNoMore inthe definition of an apostate is one who has abandoned his religious faith.
i was baptized in 1974. the religion i joined believed that jesus selected the bible students in 1919 to do a separating work.
we had to preach to find the sheep like ones.

Great summary. This religion is nothing like what the witnesses of the '50s, '60s, '70s & '80s first signed up for. Yet no "modern" day witness gets this. That's what's so frustrating...

i wasn't able to fade as gracefully as some here have been able to do, so i lost all of my jw friends and family.

Being Brought Up As A Jehovah's Witness---Was It A "BAD" Upbringing?
by minimus ini think that my upbringing made me the person that i am today---for good and bad.
even though i was raised a witness, i don't think that my upbringing was bad.. your thoughts, please..

I had parents that loved me. Sure it wasn't ideal, and because of our circumstances, as a family we were very isolated (being an only "hearing" child of deaf parents, in a religion that isolates you from the world and in a "hearing" hall that all but ignored us....). On top of this, my parents were very strict on enforcing the witness rules to a t, and as a good little only child boy, I ate it all up and become the exemplary little witness boy who wanted to be baptized at 9. Ugh...
That combination I think kind of messed me up a little bit, but I'm dealing. I remind myself that many kids out there have had far worse experiences unfortunately, and I thank my lucky stars I was not one of them. It still doesn't get rid of the pain, though.... , and the wish that I was never exposed to this ridiculous excuse of a "religion."
Which makes me ask, do I feel guilty for feeling this way, should I just be thankful for the good memories? And it goes round and round...

Friend said they're really emphasizing "Family Worship Evening" at the Convention - why did they get rid of the book study then?
by truthseeker ini just had a chat with a friend i haven't seen for a while.
he knows we're inactive.
he was trying to encourage us by relating what he heard at the convention, saying "the end is near" and then proceeded to tell me that what stood out the most was how many times the society emphasized "family worship" night at the convention.. it got me thinking, why did they get rid of the book study arrangement in private homes if they're so keen on forcing people to have family worship night?

For years the society has been berating, er, encouraging everyone to keep up on their family studies, "not enough families are regular duing family studies," etc.....What made them think that a "family study night" would actually work this time around??? The GB don't really care, it's just another tool at their disposal to brow-beat everyone with, to make them feel guilted into doing more for the organiztion, er, Jehovah.

"But witnesses never literally believed that the generation from 1914 would not pass away..." I heard that not too long ago. ...and the erasing of history begins.!!. :) What's sad is even though we have great masterpeices of literature like this as proof - many witnesses in today have no idea, and quite frankly, wouldn't believe it, and never bother to look it up... Crazy.

my story,my sins and their consequences
by highdose inwith renia now gone i feel more confident to tell my story without being belittled.
i don't want to drone on and on, as having read alot of the experiances on here i find i have alot in comman with everyone.
so i thought i'd just give a short run down of the reasons why i've ended up here.

Isn't it amazing that once you list out all the "sins" you were judged upon, it truly exposes the organization for what it is - a group of people who think they're better than everyone else, and will use whatever they can to make themselves "holier than thou." The way the "religion" is set up, it makes even the most sincere "brothers" and "sisters" become pontificating, selfish pricks. Sad to say, if you were in my hall I probably would've ignored you as well - which is awful and sad - even though I can relate to some of the things you said, on some levels.
So glad to hear a story I can somewhat relate to. You've performed the first very important step, building a life for yourself. It definitely ain't easy - hell look at the sad lot of us that still are trying to deal with our JW pasts. :p But it's absolutely worth it, and very rewarding as you make that journey - almost every day I realize how much better life is without the blinders.
Keep posting, and keep us updated on your life, both good and bad, and plently of people here will help you along the way. :)

Kingdom Hall Interiors
by TheMan inso i drove by my old kingdom hall the other day and noticed that it had a for sale sign in front of it.
this came as no surprise to me, as i knew that they recently won approval to build a new kingdom hall in a neighboring town.
(caused a bit of a stir in town - but that's a different story).

The price is $525K. I always thought it was the material from the stage that made me sick everytime I went to a meeting here. Maybe it was the color scheme after all.. :)
