Most gathering were squashed during the 90's in my old congregation. Most brothers don't want to bother with making gatherings acceptable, so they don't bother with them anymore.

by truthseeker inif you're still in or hear about jw social activities through the grapevine, what does your congregation do now socially?.
my hall does absolutely - nothing - with the exception of high school graduations.
i read a few posts about jw socialising in the 70s and 80s and honestly, reading about it is completely foreign to me - i grew up in the 80s and never experienced the "good times" of jwdom.. it seems most people do their own thing.

Is Genesis account just a myth?

Other creation accounts are viewed as myths why should genesis account be exempted.
There was a great skit on the Al Franken. Basically the skit went this Pat Robertson was interviewing a native american creationist who wanted creation taught in schools. The native american gives this long creation account from his tribe. Which ends in Pat basically dumb founded as to who would believe such crap. The native american then kids says that kids would rather hear their creation account than the one they have already heard ten thousands times in church.

Iraq war for oil? Question for Bush haters
by 5thGeneration ini've been meaning to ask this for a while.. i'm just curious how all the bush bashers who screamed for years that iraq was 'all about the oil' justify their view now with oil prices hovering around $140/barrel?.
just wondering because that argument has kinda been quashed, hasn't it?
i never saw the u.s. just taking iraq's oil nor do i now see iraq doing any favours by discounting the price.. i don't like bush so this is not a desire to argue.

Iraq was about securing oil for the US not making it cheaper. Along with a laundry list of other things that other posters have mentioned. Also it was about securing the petro-dollar. Which backfired in the US's face do to the fact OPEC ended up trashing the petro-dollar anyway.

If there were 13 people in a lifeboat built for 12, an atheist would throw somebody overboard to save themselves. Probably a baby or some elderly or disabled person. Preferably a Christian. Survival of the fittest you know.
My question would how would a christian do any better and how does professing to be a christian aid in making any better of a decision in such a situation. I mean the bible doesn't cover lost at situations short of Jonah's. Which was very loving of god to put so many at risk to punish one person being as there was plenty of other ways to do that at his unlimited disposal.
