Atheism 2.0
by Qcmbr inapologies if this has been posted before or even discussed.. this ted talk gets at the heart of what atheism is missing and my wife an di discussed this for a long time last night.
in short religion provides a framework for meeting, for ritual, for art, education and sociality.
without this framework atheism can seem lonely harsh and certainly disorganised (the general idea that education and culture can replace the gap may well be true but without a formal structure the route to personal mental fulfillment is somewhat piecemeal and patchwork.

This thread wandered way off topic from the original post.
The video on De Botton's speech should have been evaluated and discussed upon what he said in his speech.
Not necessarily centrally focused about atheism .
I encourage all to re-listen to the speaker on that TED program.

Maybe what we need are beautiful atheist meeting places, atheist charity events, atheist coffee mornings , atheist lectures on science. logic, art and beauty, atheist music and song..
We do they're called Universities and Museums.
I think where Botton is coming from is the art and architecture of religious buildings, noting the riches of the Catholic religion
and its grandiose churches and I see his viewpoint. There is no question that some of those places of worship are awe inspiring when
observing their inner and outer architecture, but there is something else happening there behind all the those beautiful buildings.

I encourage all to re-listen to the speaker on that TED program.
Its quite obvious his intentions were to demean and lay waste to non-religious beliefs as a sort avenue of moral social decadence.
Its obvious he's a religious apologetic, most likely sourced from a Christian perspective.
Notice how he fast talks from one subject to the next , never elaborating or giving evidential proof to his statements.
Quite frankly I thought the speech in its entirety was baseless unsubstantiated bullshit.
He was quite proficient in showing the outward beauty and remdeemimg social values presented by religions
but neglected completely to mention the backward social oppression and other mitigating problems conected with organized religions.

Refurbished iPhones- Is It Worth it?
by Band on the Run inmy finances are tight b/c of illness.
an important part of being desireable to employers is being technologically proficient.
it seems strange b/c my employers would pay for anything even if only remotely related to the job.

If your going to use and study these particular Windows software programs wouldn't it be a little more advantageous to buy a Windows Phone.
This comes from just speculation on my part, but there might be advantages that wouldn't be available if you went for a Apple (Mac) product.
As far as transferring files and such.
You'd have to do some research on this.
Here are some Windows phones you might look into.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/buy/7/default.aspx
By the way refurbished cell phones might be alright if they come with the same warranty as new ones but there are so many new
phones that you can get with a 3 year contract (cheap) that makes this idea redundant. Don't be pressured by a salesman, he may being
just trying to sell some stock in a hurry.

It claims: "In time of spiritual warfare it is proper to misdirect the enemy by hiding the truth
Isn't that just a nicer way of saying go ahead and lie, will back you up.
it does not harm anyone; on the contrary it does much good.
How deviously wrong is that when the information could harm both parties, the giver and the receiver.
But ah yes it does support the WTS. nevertheless and thats whats really important to the WTS.
What this really is a indication of is just how the WTS. exploits and manipulates people in the proliferation of its own published works.

It means avoiding confrontational or objectionable questioning about any of the WTS. doctrinal teachings.
And if any posed question does arise that would reveal the WTS. organization in bad light or harm the image of the organization,
such as being a false prophet, than JWS should protect the image of the organization by quantifying lie if necessary.
Its just another way the WTS. mentally indoctrinates people (brainwashes) people in how to respond to objective questioning about the JWS preaching.
And it works, there have been many JWs come to this forum, who come to preach or think they can substantiate
WTS. doctrines to only abruptly turn a blind eye to hard opposing questioning. Their brains and mouths go into immediate shut down mode.
The WTS. leaders themselves will deliberately avoid questions where they cant come up with a solid truthful answer.
For example = wasn't calculating the date of Christ's establishment of his heavenly kingdom (1914) by using numbers, going beyond
what is written in the bible and actually going against Christ's instructions concerning the exact time of his return ?

Does anybody still believe in God and the Bible?
by tornapart ini just want to know out of interest how many here still believe in god and christ and that the bible is god's word.
my faith in the wts is gone but i still love god and his son.
i've noticed that many here have lost their faith in god as well as the wts.

I think Jesus Christ was a man who wanted to help people and some powerful other people figured a way to deify him and use him to their advantage.

A consortium of modern social consciousness could work, perhaps even better than ones structured around the social
moral standards which were developed thousands of years ago, by ancient civilizations.
Not to pick on one singular religious faith mind you.
