i was bored so i decided to read this thread today. the initial post wasnt all that interesting to me, but i did get some good laughs out of the subsequent posts. im not familiar with rex, but obviously hes not the sharpest knife in the drawer. i love the way his last post to alanf COMPLETELY ignored all the many ways in which alan dismantled his statements, and then he fell back on the "well, lets all be friends and neighbors in the common cause" routine. LOL. give us a break rex, answer some of the questions that have been posed, and please try to show some semblance of intelligence this time.

An Antidote To 'Screen Sickness'.
by hillary_step ina post by you know, our local hero, that was basically filled with speculative nonsense and an eccentric interpretation of scripture has gone on, as of this moment, to generate almost 300 messages, and has been viewed over 5,400 times.
an alarming waste of time imho.. as a result of this our lawns have overgrown, our families have been neglected, the parrot is losing its feathers due to starvation and the real world has passed us by with an understandable glare in our direction.. yes, screen sickness; that desire to converse ad nasuem with digital acquaintances whose eyes ( or in yks case eye ) we have never seen, has spread greedily among us.
in his wonderful essay on painting as a pastime, winston churchill gave some excellent advise for those who find their concentration becoming obsessed or overwrought, he said:.

well, personally i have been the main player in yks latest debate. i posted many a reply on the thread you speak of, and this has been, for the most part, entertaining. i realize you do not wish to bring yourself down to that level; to argue a pointless debate with a lunatic like yk that obviously has no end. i respect that, he really could be considered a waste of time by many standards. i certainly do not think though, that the "balance of" my "mind is perhaps becoming excessively wound up with WTS & XJW matters..." in fact, i do not dwell upon or even consider these matters during my own free time in the evenings and on the weekends. now i do not argue that my time here in the office could probably be spent wiser, and perhaps i should be making fewer posts and more sales calls. so goes the life of a salesman. sometimes you just get used to making money without actually working at it, and then you spend some of your company time amusing yourself by debating and discrediting false prophets like yk, or joining in on other pointless discussions/debates on this forum. i cannot deny that i enjoy these discourses.
in my own free time though, to answer your question, i often enjoy reading, catching up on the news (which recently has been nothing but the wtc attacks and subsequent actions), watching a football game, spending time with friends and family, feeding the neighborhood strays (fred, feel free to stop by anytime for a free meal), lifting weights, jogging (although i havent been doing enough of this one lately), cooking, etc, etc, etc. surfing the internet is not included in this list, for i do not even have internet access at home.
i have noticed you have recently gone to some lengths in voicing your opinion that this discussion with yk is an extreme waste of time, going so far as to say that those engaged in the discussion must have a brain made of cabbage (probably not in so many words, i cant remember the exact statement off hand). did this particular "wager" of yks and the reactions/replies that followed really bother you that much? perhaps downplaying it to such a high degree is a way to stroke your own ego......sort of saying "im above all that, and why on earth would anyone waste valuable time/brain cells on it??" just an observation. once again, i do respect your particular choice not to engage in it. not everyone is as amused by yk as i am.

LET'S MAKE A LITTLE WAGER
by You Know inperhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.
as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.
since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

well, ive been off the thread for a couple days. i come back to find exactly what i had expected, more mindless drivel from yk. it now appears he is deeming this debate pointless.
At any rate, debating about what will, or will not occur, has no actual bearing on the future.
But as I say, there comes a time when it's pointless to debate whether the mountain is going to blow....
if its pointless to debate "when the mountain is going to blow"....why has yk been doing it for all these years? he has just discredited all of his own debates.....who looks the fool now?interesting..... a man starts a bet, everyone accepts it, he claims victory on the bet, everyone argues against this victory, he then backtracks and says we will have to wait and see, everyone points out his backtracking, and finally he then deems the whole debate pointless. sound like a false prophet to anyone else? the bible speaks of false prophets like you yk......with all your scriptural knowledge, it appears youve overlooked these scriptures and how they directly apply to you.
. And, just because past events did not lead to the end of this system doesn't mean that the system is not going to end. And, just because Jehovah's Witnesses have been anticipating it for longer than any of us have been alive doesn't mean anything either.
i think this line was supposed to make light of all of yks past failed predictions. let me just say, as lame of an attempt as this was, it was still about time that he addressed this issue.aa

why do you insist on continuing to make your ignorance more and more apparent? is it a hobby? its baffling, i must say. kind of like watching a dog chase its tail.
Panic buying is correct. The market movers really have no choice but to stage a desperate rally.
yes, we know, we know, every time the market rallies its in "desperation". again though, im sure glad those guys got so desperate in '88. ive got some very happy, very rich clients because of it.It wouldn't surprise me to see them goose the markets back up to nearly where they were.
of course the markets will get back to what they were. in fact, they will surpass that by a long shot in time. thats because the market is cyclical, but weve already had that lesson. some people sleep in class. In the end it will only ensure that when it blows everyone will be completely wiped out.
well, not everyone. i made a nice gain on pfizer this week, and now im sitting in the money market. but then again, the dollar is going to be worthless by november anyway, so i should probably go spend it now and have some fun.aa
