How do you help your kids if they are surrounded by dubs?

i got into it with my ex the other day about my kids and them being around their dub relatives.

they live with her and i know she needs help from her relatives, but i see it doing bad things.

one in particular is the inability to determine their own preferences, they say what they think the people they are with want them to say.

I'm sorry you are going through this, I deal w/these feelings on a daily basis w/my little ones. I would try to show them how great life can be out there. The more they are exposed to the beauties of your earth and its people, the more they will see that what the W says is a bunch of lies. Get involved in a charity you love and your children can participate in. Seek out friendships w/families that have similar ages as your children. Do you go to any sort of religious service? I bring the girls to a Unitarian Universalist church. It is the church I found that teaches acceptance of all religions and encourages free-thinking. Many of my college professors go there if that gives you any idea. The girls are learning to embrace tolerance to counteract the hate they learn at the KH. Also, celebrate big with them. Make a big deal of their birthdays and holidays. Show them how fun life can be when embracing all there is to enjoy.

..............i am specifically refering to those raised in the truth by both parents and then one parent leaves.

firstly, any experiences of those who went through this would be appreciated.. mainly, i am just wondering what is the best way to influence your children against the jw mindset.

it is a concern to me that my children grow up believing some of the doctrines of the wts.

Did You Overly Discipline Your Kids Because Of Being A Witness?

i knew a lot of jws that "beat" their child with the "rod" as a preferred "scriptural" form of punishment.

corporal punishment was the norm while growing up......were you given the "rod" often?

(((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) Reading these posts has made me break down crying like a baby; I look at my little girls (who can be impish at times) and try to imagine what could drive me to ever take my adult force and beat them. My heart aches, just aches at the thought. My dad and mom both beat me, pinched me, slapped me, kicked me, etc. and I vowed I would never do that to my girls. I have swatted their behinds and their hands when they were toddlers, but never full force and never w/anger.

One of the reasons I left the KH was because an elder suggested I use a weapon on my 18 month old, just like he did with his boys when they were young, "and look at wonderful they turned out." I got up from the table (it was a shepherding call) and told them I had things to do. I knew if I didn't get up at that moment I actually might take the weapon and use it on his f**ing ass.

How many JWs die for want of a blood transfusion?

does anyone have a rough or even accurate idea of how many jws lose their lives each year due to the no blood doctrine?.

About a year ago I suggested a memorial page set up in memory of all those lost due to Watchtower policy. I would be willing to donate money in the names of those who lost their lives due to the Watchtower's dangerous policies such as blood, organ failure, and most deadliest: suicide. I would be willing to donate such money to organizations that are working to get the word out there about the dangers of cults and specifically JWs.

this time it is bad.

we recieved a phone call from my husbands father on friday night asking about how we were and what we were up to ,no biggie just odd since its only maybe the second time in over a year that he has called.

I'm sorry you got a bad CS rep. However, this isn't a matter of whether they feel like replacing it or not. You need to call and get the name of the CS manager and then send a certifed letter w/a copy of the UPS receipt and let them know that you expect either a new DVR, your fixed one back, or your money back (depending on your warranty) within the next 30 days. Let them know that if you don't receive it, you will be contacting the states' attorney general and lodging a complaint in both the state you are from and the state the center is located.

You'll get your money back or a new one, I promise, just make sure to keep copies of everything you send, and follow-up.

I gave a lot of gifts to my friends and clients. I got nothing back, but honestly, it really doesn't bother me. I enjoyed giving and seeing their pleasure. I got two secret santa gifts (a Christmas ornament and a box of gourmet popcorn) and a beautiful little book from an angel here on JWD. I also gave myself a jade bracelet. Wrapped it up and put it under the tree as a gift from Santa.

i'm worried because i sent a christmas card plus had a gift sent by ups over the internet about 7 days ago and haven't heard anything.

i would feel really feel bad if my person didin't receive their gift or card.

so i think we need to have an official post place.

Thank you Mariposa! Loved the handmade Christmas ornament. I put it under the tree along w/Santa's gifts and the girls (4 &6) thought it was so cool that Santa would send me a ornament to commemorate our first Christmas.

Sure hope my SS receipient liked their gift. :-)

Feeling very depressed

it has been awhile since my last post, my husband and i have been very busy.

we are both back in college, very exciting and life is moving in a positive direction.

it is break between semesters and i have time to slow down and think.

lostlantern, I could have written your post, except my husband is still in and supports the shunning that has taken place. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I too tried to avoid the subject of religion so as not to cause conflict. Ya know, they can go years w/o talking about the "truth" w/you on the phone while you obediently attend the meetings and then suddenly you aren't at meetings and your lack of interest in talking about the subject becomes this big sign that you are out. Give me a break! I also got the "so are you going to divorce your husband now?" Yes mom and I'm going to start sacraficing babies to the gods. Give me a break. Take your head out of a Watchtower and think for yourself for one moment. She even admited that I've become less judgmental over the last two years. Gee, could that have anything to do with the fact that I stopped attending meetings 2 1/2 yrs ago??

I'm so glad to hear that you and your husband are in college! That is awesome and shows that you have your head on straight. Maybe your family will see your life getting better and have an epiphany, that's what I keep my fingers crossed for anyways. In the meantime, I'm sending my best thoughts to you and lots of comforting love.

Have you heard: "Worldly people just live for the holidays"

while i was a jw, around this time of year i would often hear jw's saying that non-jw's live only for their holidays, because that's all they have to look forward to.

after all, they don't have the wonderful hope of living in paradise on earth forever under the loving direction of jehovah's organization !!

so, for those of you who are former jw's or never were jw's, what would you say about that idea (wordly people only live for holidays), and why do jw's really say that?.

I think it has to do with justification like everything else. They need to feel and convince themselves that their suffering will be worth it in the end. I saw a form of this yesterday when a very weight-conscious friend and I were having lunch. She made some comment about a heavier lady eating a full-fat meal as she sat w/her salad. She needed to feel that her suffering put her on a higher level than the person enjoying their food.
