Good Netflix shows to watch
by Simon inin the long winter nights you need some good tv shows to watch while you wait for the eternity between seasons of game of thrones.. we've watched marco polo (pretty good) and have just started watching orange is the new black which is not at all what i imagined (didn't know it was funny!).
house of cards is on the list too as we've heard good things about that.. anyone have any others that are worth seeing?.

I was just reading on the internet that the crtc is trying to limit Canadian access to U.S, shows on Net Flix. I'm not surprised. Sigh -

by AndersonsInfo2 in"one member of the governing body of jehovah's witnesses repeated the well-known saying: 'to know where we are going, we have to know where we have come from.'".
you will find this statement on jw.org - under activities - the museum - "a tour through time.
there jw.org is featuring a slick advertisement for the tour at brooklyn, bethel, of watchtower's museum containing their version of the history of the organization.

What I can't figure out is my grandparents had boxes of those old books dating back to the beginning of the Borg, Why did they keep them? I was discouraged from reading as a young boy. I too spent hours reading these books trying as child to understand them and repeatedly told that's old light. LOL brings back memories. -

"For far too many centuries leaders of end-times cults have faced the same old dilemma:
How to keep the focus on the nearness of the end whilst needing to buy enough time to stretch out their credibility over the passing years to bolster their desperate claims to have the exclusively "true" interpretation about how near the end is."
Steve this is true but those end time cults didn't have the internet to deal with.

After I was married I took my wife to a meeting, She was love bombed and they wouldn't even acknowledge my existence. She couldn't believe it , Christians behaving like that. So yea it was effective it taught my wife how to handle requests from my parents regarding visitation with their grandchildren when I was at work. So yes it was effective after witnessing that, it made my naturally inquisitive wife not care any thing about the borg. They played right into my hands. -

Still pointing your Finger when having a Rafter in your eye?
by DocHouse inyes- everyone has faults and makes mistakes; an organization even more so.. yet, you ignore all the fingers pointing at you.. many here have no faith.
many here go to churches who lie about everything biblical; look at x-mas!.
but at least we know god and christ and try to live up to their name!.

Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

I am glad that flag was removed. The day that flag is proudly displayed here is the last time I ever visit this site again.

I don't have an axe to grind either way on this issue, but I am sure that a lot of people will be watching the outcome and it will have an effect on future postings. -

You could put the province and even the small city I live in Canada and it still wouldn't identify me. That's only because I was careful of the info I have posted and I really don't have that much to loose if someone where to find out who I was.
I could post some of my past history here without giving any location and people would know immediately who I was. But if the previous posters had been under the assumption that someday their location might become known they probably would have posted differently.

Is child abuse becoming the 'Benghazi' of exJW's?
by Simon ini've been noticing a trend recently that seems to becoming prevalent in posts which i think is a little sad and counter productive where, whatever the topic is actually about, someone will be keen to remind everyone about child abuse issues within the wts.. any sort of abuse, especially that of children, is a very serious issue but i'm not sure it's prevention is necessarily best-served by brining it up at every opportunity.
it ends up looking a little like the republican party's obsession with benghazi where they harp on about it to such an extent that people have become blind to it and it almost becomes a punchline.
people become less and less convinced of the claims because they hear them too often.. trying to turn any discussion into including comments on it, however well-intentioned, starts to look misguided at some point.

Maybe you've got something there. Good advice.
It's just that child molestation and other forms of child abuse are such heinous acts that it gets under a lot of peoples skin.
