There is nothing better for a man that he should eat, drink, and rejoice and see good for all his hard work.
One of the few bible stories I agree with.

Thought I would introduce myself
by WateredDown ini have read the site with great interest over the last few weeks.
some interesting stuff thats for sure.. i have left the jehovah's witnesses (was almost going to say the 'truth') for some time now.
i was one of the lucky ones that was baptised then faded, no humiliating disfellowshipping but nonetheless was very hard to get myself out.

Legal scholars: JW court cases before Supreme Court were "accidental wins."
by TerryWalstrom inthe outcomes of jehovah's witness court cases, to most first amendment scholars, the witness successes in court, especially the supreme court, were accidental.
legal scholars have uniformly dismissed the witnesses' methods for bringing about first amendment cases, referring to their legal successes as mere unintended consequences of fanatical preaching.
for example, legal scholar bernard schwartz noted that jehovah's witnesses, "who became involved in trouble with the law were only seeking to propagate their unpopular creed.

Five years before my appearance before a draft board, the Watchtower Society had quietly and unceremoniously changed Romans 13: 1,2 rather quietly, back to the traditional interpretation Christendom had held for two thousand years! Ironically, the JW texts I was operating from had not been updated to include this change. I found out the hard way. The Watchtower headquarters would not provide me with a membership card nor a letter attesting to my ministerial status. I later found out this was only provided in special cases where a "special Pioneer" was involved who spent 100 to 150 hours monthly knocking doors. While in prison, I was sexually attacked by a non-JW inmate. I should not have been there in the first place. I had the legal right to serve alternate service working in a hospital--had it not been for the private counsel of my JW elders in strict accord with their covert (by this time) policies on Christian neutrality.Terry I feel sorry for you, you poor bastard! -

Have there been any existing cultural group made up of rationalists with neither a religion or a mythology?
by James Mixon indisbelief is the default position, no one is born having a belief.
beliefs are.
acquired through culture and education, we all know that.

One need only to look at this link to see a group of rationalists.https://royalsociety.org/about-us/history/

How do flood apologists explain these?
by marmot inspear points dating to thousands of years before the flood (or even adam's alleged creation, for that matter) found preserved in situ among mammoth bones in naco, arizona.. or the 14,000 year-old footprint of a child at a mammoth hunting camp unearthed in a bog in monte verde, chile:.
the kicker is that this isn't even the oldest evidence for human settlement of the americas.
since the wt loves to trot out frozen mammoth carcasses as "proof" that mammoths died in the flood, who were these mammoth eaters in north america?

Trust me there is a lot of scientific thought that goes into carbon dating. Look up accuracy of carbon dating on Wikipedia for a start. If a lot of it seems a little esoteric at first just focus on the real world, things like, why are there no native kangaroos in North or South America? Why are there no moose in Australia? Why do bacteria become immune to anti antibiotics? When you start to research (even on your own) any subjects like these in any depth your faith in a global flood will subside. That's why the Governing Body discourages higher education.
I forgot to say welcome to the forum.

Site update: Jan 17, 2015
by Simon insome quick updates, mostly cosmetic:.
the message sending form should display better feedback of why a message is invalid (which will prevent the send button becoming active).. if your status is telling you that you have unread messages then you should see an option in the 'inbox' page to reset the count / mark all messages read.
just press it once, be patient - marking the actual messages is done in the background.. the topic and post counts are being updated - some will still be incorrect while it processes the data but after that should be correct.

Simon just a question. Why when I use this computer every time I click on the persons avatar who updated a thread I am taken to the thread midpoint requiring me to click the last page of the thread? It's just this computer that does it. It never used to do that until recently. -

Millie210 I don't think anyone or anything will be able to convince you to be a non believer in God, I don't think anyone should be trying to convince you, you can think for yourself.
The more we figure out about how things work in the universe the more questions keep arising its just how it is. I personally don't think god has any thing to do with it. I am not preachy about my opinions.
I didn't mind AR Crazy either the way he was, now that's preachy.
