Well everyone it's international Pi approximation day 7/22. Actually 22/7=3.14

That's the first thing I said to the wife when we woke up this morning. She looked at me as if I had two heads. Who knows what evil lurks in a women's mind? LOL

i've mentioned it in a few threads, but i'd like to make it a thread of it's own.. i'm going to make the prediction the gb will schedule a new meeting once a month, starting in jan 2016, for watching the jw broadcasting program.

at the moment it's up to each cong to organize a viewing, but soon the gb will take over the arrangements.. i make this assumption based on the fact that they know that a substantial quantity of pubs are not tuning in every month.. by scheduling a meeting once a month, it's easier for the gb/elders/organisation to gauge how many people are watching, and to make sure everyone is fully indoctrinated with what the gb are saying.

it will also keep the rank and file busy busy busy.. if i was a cult leader, that's what i would do.

Its a possibility, the latest thing for Kingdom Halls to have a large screen up on the stage, where the monthly broadcast could be viewed.

Not that something like that would bring to mind images of George Orwell's 1984. Would it Finkel ? LOL.

So much "growth"! JW Land double sided coin

i'm finding it more and more funny how every wt article for the public or congregation, including jw broadcast talks about all this "growth" and how fast jehovha's organization is speeding up!

yet everything behind closed doors, insider information, elder letters and sales paint a very different picture.

i have news for you gb members!

This makes me think that the same could eventually happen in the third world where expansion does exist for now, that a saturation point will come and the JW org will nevertheless be in control of even greater wealth and large numbers of dim-witted believers loyally breeding new child members... just like they did in the Catholic Church.

I just went along going through the motions paying lip service to this odd religious belief system I was born into

Me too Jookbeard. I can honestly say that there was not a time while being a JW that I felt comfortable with it. Maybe that's why I never brought anyone "into the truth" even though I had the opportunity on many occasions to do so. I was sort of like those people that walked really slow from house to house hoping to find not at homes.

Facing up to the reality of the world

since becoming atheist i have been paying more attention to world events and issues.

this is giving me some worry's when i see what's going on.

as a jw i could just dismiss stuff saying "armageddon is coming, jehovah will look after us" etc etc now of course i can't do that.

There are more humans alive right now leading longer and healthier lives than at any time in human history. So unless you live in North Korea there is no greater time to be alive. We routinely deal with health issues for example on a world wide scale that would have wiped out millions in the past.

Life is not perfect by any means but just imagine if you were on a space ship headed for earth could you think of a better time to be arriving than now? Our biggest challenge now as people is to make sure we don't become victims of our own success by overpopulating and allowing petty differences to force us into warring with each other. Education and not indoctrination is key to this and I am sure that scares the hell out of a lot of religiously minded people but I think we'll figure it out. Who knows what the rest of this century will bring?

once a month about 15 to 20 elderly jw publishers would meet at the kingdom hall and one elder was assigned to set up the system so they could view jw broadcasting.

these publishers were long time pioneers, former elders, and long time publishers who know nothing about computers or the internet.

they are the last batch of those expecting the generation that saw 1914 or understood it--- to not die off.

I remember back in the 60's carrying a booklet published by the WTBTS that was to be used to teach people how to read so they could understand the bible. Now the same organization abandons their elderly who swallowed all that tripe hook line and sinker.

I can't help but feel sorry for those elderly ones.

I hope you are wrong in your assessment Orphan Crow but chances are you are probably right.

The only hope then is that the developing world develops fast and everyone has easy access to the information of the evil internet. Sort of mankind's revenge of the Tower of Babel scenario.

Nimrath your Grandfather being a contributor to the Doolittle raid sound like he would have been a great guy to talk to about the war. Your Father's contributions as a merchant marine should not be overlooked either. The merchant navy here in Canada too kept Great Britain fed and supplied and many ships that were sent out ended up at the bottom of the North Atlantic. They were sitting ducks.

I grew up around many of that Greatest Generation and they were cut from a different cloth indeed. While some glory grabbers like John McCain are out there there most of that Greatest Generation that I knew personally had to be cajoled into telling some of their stories.

My hat is off to them and that includes the Merchant Navy as well as the aging Vietnam Vets many of whom weren't treated right.
