Abandoned,
pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese tell us sooooooooon, the suspense is torture!
and whatever it is, I am sooooooo happy for you! you deserve to be happy!
i still have a hard time wrapping my brain around this.
for example why do so many believe in the bible when ample proof exists that negats its validaty?
why not believe in zeus or jupitor, etc.
Sometimes, it's just a human emotional response
some people need to have something bigger than they are to believe in, their life is probably very difficult, they are struggling....prayer to a powerful being brings them hope, comfort.
It's like a security blanket, the blanket itself holds no special power, but to the owner, it posseses the power to soothe and to comfort when scared and feeling alone.
There are also those who do not want to think for themselves, they are content to let others do the thinking for them, to tell what morality is, to tell them what their future holds, and they are content to just let the world go by why they wait to die and get their reward for being faithful.
Some like being associated with a group of people, like in a club, where they feel companionship, togetherness, a common ground, oneness, etc.
No offence to any religious ones here.
Not saying this applies to all religious people, but to some.
that's my take on it anyways.
thank you for this place in cyber space, this is therapy for me.
there is something about writing things down, that helps put things in perspective........ the day i left it was pouring rain........i really screwed up, i found out the night before, as i was packing things up, that i had way under estimated how much stuff i had.
i had two large suit cases (that i could barely shut the lids on) and a large army duffel bag.
Looking forward to reading more about your life after bethel....
like anything you buy today, there is always something written in fine print that means, your product won't be covered under such and such eventualities.. now lets apply this to the watchtower.. what do you think the watchtower should have put in fine print so that the new jw's who just joined can see what awaits them.... this is what i would have written in fine print, if i was the watchtower.. your new journey starts here.
from now on, you dump all your worldy friends and family that don't want to become jw's.
once baptized, you can't look back and question the watchtower.
LOL at AA and Jeremiah!
hello everyone i hope you are all well.
there was a very strange announcement given out at the meeting last night in all congregations in a western european country .
the borg here are at a critical stage in their court room battles.
Did they complain that God’s arrangement was unrighteous in having formerly required of them things that were no longer necessary? No, they rejoiced in the broadened understanding of Jehovah’s purposes.—Acts 16:4, 5.
WHAT THE HELL?? They are comparing their doctrines to the TEN COMMANDMENTS / MOSAIC LAW!!!!!?
And then they s**t on those who have become disheartened! HOW LOVING!!

We, the writers, will always be considered correct, even if doctrine is proven as incorrect. Once you are baptized, you have dedicated yourself to the faithful and discreet slave at all times, neither running ahead, nor lagging behind. Any written changes will always be considered ''new light''. Any disagreements to written doctrine will not be tolerated. You will be expected to give your life to the Society,as well as your financial means. You will be blessed with titles if you show yourself a hard worker, and if you show a submissive spirit. You will be blessed with more priviledges when you prove yourself a faithful sheep. You will attend all meetings. Missing any meetings denotes a weakness in faith, and this will noted by your PO. You, the faithful followers will be encouraged to disown your loved ones should they share any doubts about the Society's direction. You may have doubts, but you are not allowed to share your doubts with any other person. As long as you outwardly show you are a humble and faithful sheeplike one, you will be patted on the back. You must do all personal study from the Society's publications. Bible reading is encouraged but not without the Society's study aids. Any independent material is considered a tool of Satan. You will be required to report to the elders infractions on the part of your brother or sister. You are required to report to the elders any sins you have commited, past or present. As long as you grovel and beg, you will not be disfellowshipped. this applies to sisters only. Brothers only need prove that they will be useful servants of the Society in order to remain a Jehovah's Witness. Anything you say against the Society, can and will held against you in a judicial meeting. We reserve the right to arbitrarily disfellowship anyone not in line with the Society. We reserve the right to change any doctrine at any time.

Give the appearance of compromising your godly principles publicly while standing firm for pure standards of worship privately.......
Now that is a bass-ackwards policy if ever I've seen one.
If you were with a group of rapists you go through humping motions as long as you didn't penetrate, I suppose.
These people are ethically clueless.
good analogy.
hopefully the ''you'' wasnt refering to me, but to the R&F in general.
Just because I wrote what I think the GB/Society was saying, doesnt mean that I am in agreement with them... just wanted to make that clear. ~found

What I get from that letter is this:
''If you live in a country where you will be persecuted for not voting, you may go to the voting booths, just dont put in a ballot (if the booth is private), or do not mark your ballot with anything that would be choosing a political party.''
It's an arrangement so that the rank and file brothers and sisters can have a clear conscience about going to the voting booths (while not voting) in countries where they may be persecuted for not voting.
I dont read anywhere in the letter that voting itself is a conscience matter, as it is stressed that christians must remain neutral. they are refering to christians making an ''appearance'' of voting.
a comment by rubadub in the thread about learning new things at the meetings made me remember something, and gave me a chuckle.. i would always see how fast i could look up the scriptures during the talks, and race to beat most everyone else.
of course everyone else didn't realize i was racing them, but i'd always feel a smug (and perhaps a bit self-righteous) satisfaction at having the scripture looked up and ready to follow along while from the sights and sounds around me most everyone else was still looking it up.
being able to look up jehovah's word with such speed would surely earn me spiritual brownie points.
lol!
I remember doing that...and feeling happy when i could find it pretty fast....sometimes i cheated by looking at where the brother was turning to in his bible before he said anything.
I'm with vivamus, I would often continue reading the rest of the surrunding scriptures if it was interesting....then I wouldnt be listening to anything the speaker was saying for a good 5 minutes!
ahh the memories, bitter sweet.
