I'd just rather go with "Eye of the Tiger"...or, maybe that's just me showing my age...

I've got to motivate myself to finish reading the last three chapter of my business law book and take the final exam. I also have to help my friend from China on her paperwork for her tourist visa interview she'll be having at the US consulate at the end of August. I guess I'll be online late tonight -- thanks to the time difference between Denver and Shanghai. And Sunday, I'm trying to finish the grunt work on my website.

Mickey Spillane - JW Mystery Writer has Died
by fjtoth inassociated press and fox news:.
the writer, who became a jehovah's witness in 1951 and helped build the group's kingdom hall in murrells inlet, spent his time boating and fishing when he wasn't writing.
in the 1950s, he also worked as a circus performer, allowing himself to be shot out of a cannon and appearing in the circus film "ring of fear.".

That was one of the things that ticks me off about the dubs....you know they knew about the covers and contents of Spillane's books, but you and i know the moment an average dub admits/admitted they buy all his books, they would be getting a sheparding call.

Will there be a time when NO ONE will be able to become a JW anymore?
by JH in.
the witnesses always said that at some point in time, it will be too late to join, the doors will be closed.. do you believe that will happen, or is it just to scare the witnesses?
and what would trigger the watchtower to decide, it's too late?

You know, LDH has inspired me...she/he really has!
The next time the JWs knock on my door, trying to push the latest issues of Awake! and The Watchtower, I'll say, "Sorry, I don't have money..but would you be willing take some used butt plugs in lieu of payment?"
(For the record, no, I don't have any butt plugs and I would never used them...but, I would love the see the looks on the dubs' faces as I tell them that....)

JWs and the Internet
by JW_Researcher ini posted the question below but it may have gotten lost in the shuffle.
nina indicated that the jws have been "instructed" not to use the internet.
my understanding was that they were to use caution.

Borgia: Resolutions not to enter chat rooms? Hah! Like how often do non-JWs talk about JWs unless one comes to a place like this that actually specializes in JWs?
Undercover: That story about the computer virus was so funny, but I've actually heard stories similar to that...not so much that apostates were planting the virus, but Satan's *demons* were hard at work to corrupt the young children's heads that lived in the household in question. Talk about superstition, which as we all know, is forbidden by the JWs. What a paradox.

Sheesh...the JWs...I tell ya. Being anti-computer/anti-internet is so Luddite...
I pay so many of bills online to the payment form being losted in mail. I order books or music from overseas that I can't get here in Denver. Not to mention so many of my friends from overseas email me or IM me because getting mail to and from China can be a hassle. If I were an active JW, I'd love an Elder to tell me that I was in danger of my faith being shipwrecked. Then I could tell him, "So? And the Roman Catholic church told Galileo that he was a heretic for his theories on astronomy..."

Does God Hate four letter words?
by frankiespeakin ini mean if you use the word like fuck,& shit does he really care or is it something we humans made up ourselves?

Frankiespeaks asked:I mean if you use the word like fuck,& SHit does he really care or is it something we humans made up ourselves?
At first, I was just going to skip replying to this thread, but the linguistic classes I took for my minor in college took control of my brain....
So, here is the simpliest way to write this:
During Shakespeare's time "c*ck" and some other "cuss" words did not have the stigma attahced to them as they do today. It's humans, especially those who see themselves as gaurdians of taste and morality, who assign the "dirty" connotative value of the words. For instance: If I say, "Consume excrement and expire" and then 30 seconds later I utter, "Eat Sh*t and die!", I've said basically said the same thing *and the intent was the same*, but someone will be more offended by the second phrase.
God doesn't say which words are dirty or not, it's humans that do.

move topic here: ex-JW dating a current JW
by dustrabbit inso, it's a saturday night, i'm home alone and my love/social life sucks.
so, i was iming a few minutes ago with a friend of mine who doesn't live here in denver, bitching about my love life... so, he since he realizes i tend to date conservative women, he asks me why i haven't hooked up with a jw woman and then get her away from the borg.
now, there's a risky proposition and it's obvious my friend has never been in borg.

This is a case in which the end does not justify the means. It would be dishonest and potentially very damaging to the woman.
I agree. It's the reverse of joining a religion just b/c your sweetie expects you to. I think my freind was looking at it from this viewpoint of someone who has never been religious (from a Western perspective) that I would be doing a good thing of getting someone out of the cult. I tried to tell him that she would be so shunned if her family were JWs...and that is such a tough spot to be in, as just about everyone here on this board can attest to, especially if the romantic relationship sours.

Is this site ever used for on-line dating?
by frozen one ini was reading another thread that asked, "do you see yourself remarrying?
" i noticed some of the replies mentioned that getting involved with another xjw would be interesting.
i have thought that also.

I wouldn't be adverse to it, but I could not realistically believe I'd actually meet woman who would fit my tastes: a humorous, creative/artisitc, Asian ex-JW female, around my age, especially living in Denver -- be it on this board or off.
But this thread does show something so predictive about humor nature...as long as the situation is really informal, the mixing of genders will lead to some discourse regaridng sex and love sooner or later.

What Type Of Congregation Were You In ???
by minimus inthe older i get, the more i appreciate serenity and tranquiity.
-
dustrabbit
Well, the congregation I grew up in split into two when I was about 12 because the average turnout for a Sunday was about 200 and the KH's main sitting area was about 100. A lot of folks had to sit downstairs and listen through the PA system or sit in the nursing room. And that pissed off a lot of nursing mothers and parents who used the nursing room for discpilining the kids (i.e.. bouncing the kids off the plexiglass window -- I shit you not). Most of the congregation was split between poor, white trash familes with five or six kids who drove in from the rural areas like Bennett and Watkins while the rest us lived in Montbello, at the time -- 1980s --used to be a black-majority neighborhood riddled with gangs here in Denver. Now it's becoming a mexican-immigrant neighborhood, but I have no idea about the makeup of the congregations that serve that neighborhood.
A lot of the older, more established families and the really cool elders stayed in the old congregation while my parents, a lot of the families who did not let their kids go to school (especially the rural white trash families), and some really authoritarian/creepy elders formed the new congregation. Oh well, at least there was Brother R---'s daughter to keep things interesting when she and I and some of the JW boys around my age hit puberty. She turned into a bad seed later on according to wagging tongues of the older women at the KH, but even when she was 14 she was wearing tight, black dresses. A great butt, silky blonde hair, and perfect breasts -- yeah, I ended up with my first hard-on at the Sunday meeting (I didn't realize at first what was happening) and I got the crap kicked out of me by my mother. Some Sister told my mom to "cool it" because I wasn't the only who getting a "little perky", so was her son. She compared the girl to Eve saying she was tempting us boys. Yeah, nothing like a woman blaming another woman (teenage girl) for men's (teenage boy's) behaviour. Bother R--- later on had to step down as an Elder because he couldn't "control" his daughter. The last I heard, she had a kid out of wedlock with this non-Witness kid who was black (that raised the eyebrows of many of the white members of the congregation -- so much for "colorblindess" within the JWs), got fat, dropped out of high school, and some other scandalous stuff.
To give an example of how much the creepy elders were screwed up: My parents has some issues with the body of elders when I was 18...one of the minsterial servants, he was one of those on the fast track to being an Elder, was really upset with the way I was being abused by my mother. At least, this brother had a good set of ethics. But the Elders, except for one who was a nice guy, were more interested in the fact my mother wasn't going ot the meetings as much as she used to -- she had over 20 cats that she did animal rescue work for. Unfortunately, my younger sister saw that the elders were on a witch hunt and she decided to lie about a bunch of things that were supposedly going on with her and my dad. The cool minsterial servant and the cool elder were left out of the decision-making process and the other elders decided to call social services -- a real hornet's nest -- even though they admitted to me later they doubted my sister's story. Apparently, they weren't worried about me, my bruises, and 84-pound body. Oh, well. The events that unfolded from the witch hunt helped me get away from the KH, but I always wondered what happened to the ministerial servant.
