RWC,
The Jewish faith and Chrisitianity place a strong emphasis on a chaste marriage............
Yes, but which gender would be put to death for commiting adultery?
the deeper you look into, clearer picture is emerging that god had not any input in these writings at all.
there are many verses, even whole passages which exist in some editions and in some they do not.. he evidently didn't supervised writers or copyists and we have plenty of evidences of that, his name in nt included.. since gospels of peter or thomas are not regarded as valuable and important documentations of jesus' life, only one conclusion comes to my mind.. as a moral guide the bible is an excellent book, written by... men!.
highly recommended!.

yes, more fluff!.
well my worst two jobs had to be when i lived in mexico about three years ago.
i got a job as a telemarketer.
When my children were small I looked for a job where I could work at night and be home with them in the daytime. I answered an ad for a Secretary in The New York Times and was hired after a brief interview with the owner who peppered me with compliments and saying that I would be perfect for this job. Luckily, the job was near my house so that I was only a short bus ride away from my children in case I was ever needed home.
I worked at this job for one night only. Here's way:
First of all the office was in a private home which in itself is not unusual. When I first interviewed the man explained to me that it was a very small business and that my duties would include typing and keeping files. He seemed very nice and very professional and I was happy to have gotten the job. When I reported to work that first night he took me down to the basement as he explained that the offices were down there. I thought nothing of it, just that there were lots of boxes and other things as an obstruction to the entrance. When we got down to the basement there was indeed an office there; a couple of desks, telephones and a switchboard. It seemed okay. He gave me some index cards to file and I started on that. Curiously, in the corner of the room was a switchboard along an entire wall and I wondered what that was for. That is until he walked over, put on a head set and started making calls. The calls were to men in hotels and to women telling them which hotel room the men were in. I was shocked! I wanted to get out of there but I was frozen in my chair. I was working for a call girl racket! A real live call girl racket in a quiet residential neighborhood, on a tree lined street. Anyway, to make a long story short, I finished my night, got paid, and explained to the boss why I was never coming back. The last thing he said to me was that I was making a mistake because he could see that I was good material for his profession.
i see that ray franz is coming in for a fair bit of criticism due to his apparrant unwillingness to accept that jw's had a problem with the existence of child abuse when he was a member of the gb.
also, it would appear that ray is being chided for his belief in the rule of 2 witnesses before action can be taken against an abuser.
it seems to me that it is quite likely that ray wasn't aware that there was a serious abuse problem within the society when he was a member of the gb, if only for the reason that ray would find such an activity so detestable that he would believe it to be a virtually impossible act for anyone to perpetrate.
I personally doubt if the news about child abuse ever reached him, just like customer complaints never seem to reach the chairman of a large company.
Hi Englishman, I would just like to point out that this is a bad comparison. Information in the watchtower society flows from the top down and not from the down to the top as in the case of a person in the complaint department reporting to their bosses at the top.
Don't be upset with me because when I'm visiting you in the summer I would like you to speak to me without sneering!

RWC,
So it is not inconceivable that if the test proved that the woman was unfaithful that theman would be punished as well.
Please, you are adding your thoughts to the Bible. No where in those verses does it say that a man, any man, will be punished if the wife is found unfaithful. Let's try to stick with just what the scriptures tell us and the scriptures say that the woman's name will be cursed if she is found unfaithful.
I honestly don't know if you are being deliberately obtuse or if you really believe what you are saying. The scriptures clearly state that the woman should be in subjection to the man. The woman is not allowed to teach in the congregation. The woman must cover he head in subjection to the man. It just goes on and on. Women in the Bible are chattel and you deny this and say that there is equality among the genders? I'd like to know what translation you are reading from, because its vastly different from mine.
