Uhhhhh, may have done something stupid...not sure...
by mama1119 inokay, so my best friend calls this morning.
she has left the borg, but the rest of her family hasn't.
she was invited over to her moms house last night for dinner and her grandparents were suppossed to be there.

Is It Impossible To Reach A Devout JW ???
by minimus ini wonder.
a very typcal witness may see the obvious negatives that jws know they have.
they might acknowledge that there's often a lack of love, that the elders can be demanding, that "new light" can change long cherished beliefs in an instant.......but still they cling on and resist any sort of intellectual discussion as to why the witnesses are off soooooo many times.....what gives??

The question could be asked: Is it impossible to reach a devout Catholic, Mormon, Baptist, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu etc.?
The JW world, though small, is merely a pool of people doing their religious thing. The Catholic church is a much bigger pool of people doing their thing and though her leaders have burned people alive at the stake and for centuries have moved pedophile priests around like chess pieces, she survives, she survives because she morphes. She survives because for her members it would be too painful to live without her. So also will the JWs survive if they do what they appear to be doing; that is morphing to fit the times because for many JWs life is better in than out.
The more important question for me personally is: How much of my life will I devote to fighting windmills? In that regard I am quite happy with my "irregular publisher" status in the exJW world.

a dfd friend whom i've been supporting through his mental distress and suicidal tendencies has done me a very strange turn.

Once upon a time I too faced a similar situation, a betrayal by a witness friend. I refused to discuss my private conversations with said individual, the elders said they could not move forward with only an accusation and no second witness to said "illegal" conversation, me.
They dropped it. Perhaps this is something you can consider.

I'm glad to hear about this change. My brother has partaken of the emblems for 17 years now and through it all has suffered much from some rigid rule keeping elders.
I'm no longer a JW but I nonetheless celebrate any amount of release the Governing Body gives to its captive members. I hope for more!

there some few scholars that translate the word was "a god" or "a god" or "divine" but they are in the very low percentages.. in greek john 1:1 says: "en arche en ho logos, kai ho logos en pros ton theon, kai theos en ho logos.

In the end, what will really matter?
by exwitless inin light of the current deep philosophical discussions whirling around, i thought i would post another topic to ponder.
hillary step motivated me to start this topic by this comment on another thread:.
if there is anything that i have learned in my 500 years of life, is that none of it matters much anyway.. we all end up in some dismal cemetry with drunken kids urinating on our tombstones anyway.

Question for Believers: How can God be PERFECT?
by kid-A inseveral weeks ago the issue of god's 'perfect nature' came up on a thread.
the concept of "perfection" is a persistent in vitually all faith traditions and theological constructs.. jws in particular, have an obsession with the concept of perfection and use it regularly in their propaganda: "live forever in a perfect paradise earth"; "live forever in perfect health"; "humans and animals will live together in perfect harmony", etc etc...... the point was raised about the possibility or impossibility of god being perfect.
if we begin with the basic judaeo-christian tenet that god created the universe from nothingness, then he is the designer and creator of every single entity, sentient or non-sentient, and object within reality.

God is "perfectly" suited to be God. He is..that is He exists. He is the great "I Am".
His "perfection" is not measured in human terms if it were He would not be God!
Or do we feel ourselves capable of understanding all unknowns?

Resurrection vs. Re-Creation...
by Tuesday inum, what's the deal with this?
i'm speaking with a witness and he keeps talking about the resurrection and the way it's explained sounds like it's really a re-creation of all of our memories in god's mind then put back on earth in a re-created body.
so in essence a clone of me with my memories and personality will live forever in paradise, how exactly is that a resurrection.

It would seem there must be a seed, a germ, of some sort of the person because to say their memories are recreated and so they are recreated is ludicrous. Some would call that "germ" an eternal soul, others a temporary hold on that person's individual spirit.

The Witnesses have the corporations and the buildings but little else of Russell. The congregations in his day voted in their elders and were independent congregations from the Society. Russell did not believe in a great die off at Armageddon nor did he force people to believe as he did. The system of theology is so changed that the Bible Students can say in all honesty, Russell is not the founder of the JWs.

That's What I'M Talkin' About!

there are just some expressions in today's vernacular that are just idiotic, and "that's what i'm talkin' about" is one of these.
it is so ghetto.. several people are saying 'blah, blah, blah, de blah and more de blah..." suddenly, a dimwit in the group hears something that dimwit didn't even mention but happens to like the subject and then dimwit blurts out, "now that is what i'm talkin' about!".
