  I went to a JW "memorial" (funeral) talk on Saturday

  just when i think that i will never set foot in a kingdom hall again, the father of a dear friend of mine died.

  now, this friend and her husband stood firmly by our side during the hubbub surrounding my dad's suicide and the funeral we decided on (no kh, no elders, no half hour infomercial), and she was having problems with her own family, so i decided to go to his funeral talk as support for her.. nothing dramatic happened, really, but it was a good reality check.

  jennie, our 13-year-old daughter, went with me and almost fell asleep from boredom and the fact that the elders were too cheap to turn the ac down to a comfortable temperature on a warm texas saturday afternoon.

  Typical. Scared to death of what they are going to hear and firmly determined there is either a good explanation or it could not be true.

  Good for you for going to support your friend - and good for her supporting you when your father died.

  I am glad to hear about the experience your daughter had going to the church. I would love to find a good church to go to, or try a number of different ones, but am afraid to at this point because if someone saw me going in, there would definitely be a judicial committee and I have not wanted to lose my family. How sick the hold this religion can have on us!

  Crazy things you were "forced" to do in the Borg

  were you ever told to do things that had no bearing on the scriptures or even policies of the watchtower?.

  we had one co who upon inspection insisted that the body of elders and servants be cleaven shaven, cut their hair and remove their sideburns.. i use to have a patch of hair under my bottom lip.

  the co pointing to it asked, "what's that?

  if i went back to the kingdom hall there would be no windows..lol!

  !..and..many doctrines,i could no longer preach.i would be reprimanded,reproved or disfellowshipped for it!..doctrines we were told to preach,straight from god,given to us by the wbt$ are no longer valid.the wbt$ says so.......i left in 1974.i couldn`t preach "armageddon by 1975"..most jehovah`s witness`s will tell you wbt$ never made that prediction.although wbt$ liturature says otherwise....."jehovah`s witness will be the only ones who survive armageddon".now,no one knows....."jehovah`s witness`s can`t take blood transfusions".now they can use blood factions....."religion has no place with worldly organizations".the wbt$ had an assosiation with the united nations-ngo..make a big deal about that and you "will" be disfellowshipped!.....

  How many remember the 1969 8 day convention?

  anybody remember the 8 day 1969 international convention.

  i was at the braves stadium in atlanta all 8 days with a sunburn and then wet clothes after the rain storms.

  if you were there (not necessarily in atlanta) do you remember anything about it?

  I was at the Kansas City assembly also, camped out in the farmer's field. We rented one of those big canvas tents that were so hot. There were makeshift showers set up, women's and men's separate, with big black plastic sheets dividing it up for privacy. And riding the bus. I was 17 years old.

  I remember talking to a girl about my age who was also camped out at the farmer's field and her telling me about her brother who had been disfellowshipped, had gotten into all kinds of trouble and murdered someone and went to prison. As far as the assembly itself, I do not remember what was talked about. Probably was as boring then as it is now.

  i have a predicament.

  i was wondering how to go about telling neighbors that i am now going to celebrate the holidays.

  this time last year (when we were still new in our subdivision) it seemed to be one birthday after another here in my neighborhood.

  Just a thought, but if you did not let your kids go to their kid's birthday parties, don't start out inviting their kids to birthday parties for your kids or you are liable to get people thinking that you are just fishing for gifts for your kids, but didn't want to buy any for theirs. Start with other holiday events, then as you get to know people better, put the word out that you are now open to invitations for your kids to go to their kid's birthday parties because you have changed in your beliefs. Once you have that established, you can issue birthday party invitations.

  Does that make sense to you? I just know how people are sometimes.

  There was a Plank family in Jerseyville. Daughter (Andrea) married a pioneer brother named Chris Mathenia and they were in my congregation for a while. It seems like Tom was her brother's name. I met him once when we picked him up from work while we were out in service and he spent the rest of the afternoon out with us. I think he would be in his early or maybe mid-20's. Is that who you mean? The parents sold their house and moved from J'ville to Alton and were in the same congregation as me. I never got to really know them as I was missing a lot of meetings and finally just stopped going.

  Hi, Jeepthing. I never got around to sending you a long e-mail this last weekend like I said I would. I will call you one day this week. Don't know about ex-JW meetups in St. Louis, though.
