what was wrong with Scooby Doo?
Alot of the Scooby shows had ghosts & witches. Definately a no no for any JW kid! I think the problem with WKRP was the sexual innuendoes between Loni Anderson and all those horny guys!
what tv shows didn't you get to watch when you were a jw?
either because you had to attend one of the five meetings a week or had to go out in field service on the weekend?.
i remember being pissed off as a kid every saturday morning, because we always had to go out in field service.

wished to know concerning yourself, life, the future, or anything else, what would you want to know?
once and for all "Is there a God?"
Make that two of us that want to know!

At least there is TV Land so I can watch all those shows and reclaim a little bit of my twisted over sheltered childhood.
Well said Brent! That's exactly how I feel too! At least we have TV Land...They stole the rest of what might have been a "normal" childhood for us.
Here's one I saw recently: "4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions"
oh and: "If money is the root of all evil, why do churches beg for it?"

I remember too, especially during the Watchtower studies, how the WTS used to tell everyone that they shouldnt watch violent TV shows or movies.
hmmm, anybody else remember the violent pictures in "My Book of Bible Stories"??? They scared the hell out of me as a kid!!!

I now watch The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park, Happy Tree Friends I could go on. The more sick and perverse, the better!

I remember being pissed off as a kid every Saturday morning, because we always had to go out in Field Service. I would miss all the Saturday morning cartoons! It really sucked then too because those were the days before VCRs, tapes, DVRs and all those awesome recording gadgets that we have today!
Ok, I'm probably dating myself, but who else remembers "Schoolhouse Rock"? I hated missing those growing up. And what about all those fun cop shows that we missed during the week because of the book study or service meetings!

i was raised among the witnesses and left in my early 30's due to a mixture of doctrinal disputes and social isolation.
my mother and both of my sisters remain within the organization.
i also have two brothers, one df'd, one who never quite caught the watchtower bug.. my road within the organization was a rocky one that eventually lead to a place where i found myself socially isolated within the congregation as a person simply unfit for fellowship with proper, upright, theocratic people who must cut off all 'worldy' association, suffer the ensueing isolation, and eat humble pie until such a time as they determined i was 'spiritual minded' enough for them to associate with.. baptism was held up as my expected goal, but despite trying, i was never quite good enough for them.
Welcome to the board Dave!! Great intro too!!
Youve come to the right place pal. Lots of people on here can relate to your experiences. Hope to hear more from you!
i have had a relationship with a lovely girl whos been following the jw faith since birth.
she hasnt been baithized yet and planes to this year.
we were going to get married a few years ago but didnt due to problems not reguarding religon.
First off, welcome to the board spirtos! I see this is your first post.
I have to agree with the other posters here. While a JW can marry a non-JW, it's not recommended. Nothing is more important to a JW than their religion. This could cause lots of stress and pain in your marriage. You truly have to think long and hard about that kind of decision. I hope things work out for you.
I agree too that the best way to educate a JW is with their OWN past publications. Especially since they are forbidden to read anything else. As far as obtaining Watchtower materials you can check out Randy Watters website: http://www.freeminds.org/. There you can find and purchase the actual Watchtower publications that you need. Even EBAY has Watchtower materials available that might be helpful. Best of luck to you!!!
