I had not been to meetings in probably 8 or 10 years when my daughter started dating a young man that was Assembly of God. She started researching the WTS to prove to him they were the "Truth". Well, that backfired.
She gave me a copy of CoC to read. I was really scared when I started it. I was waiting for lightning to strike me dead at any moment.
By the time I finished it I had a calm come over me like I had never felt before.
I had a young relative that was disfellowshipped and I was trying to figure out how to approach him about reading CoC. I visited him one day and happened to see he already had a copy and was reading it! We had a nice long chat after that.
Thank you Ray Franz. You have helped more people than you could have ever imagined when you wrote that book.

Evaluating Raymond Franz
by greendawn inwhat do you think of ray(mond) franz?
i have seen here some people critisise him as not being a really heartfelt opponent of the wts, but my view is that he was quite honest about his expressed motives against the cult.
with his revelations he gave a lot of momentum to the ex jw movement (the apostate organisation according to the jws) and offered valuable assistance to those seeking to shake off the ideological and social dependance on the oppressive cult.

Views of worldy folk as a witness
by fifi40 ini bring this subject up because personally i dont get it.. i have noticed that some posters use words such as 'evil' or 'stinking goats' to describe the view (either their own adopted view or that of the jw org) they had of worldly people whilst a jehovahs witness.. the reason i find this difficult to understand is because i never felt that way toward 'people of the world' whislt being a believer of of the teachings of the jw organisation.
and i didnt pick up on it being rammed down my throat by the org either.
now i wonder if i was ignorant of something, not paying enough attention or if it is just each individuals approach toward life that makes the difference.. what were your views of 'people of the world and why?.

Speaking of Goats, my aunt that had never been a witness was attending an anniversary party for my parents (I wasn't invited - I was being shunned at the time)
Most everyone there were JWs. This aunt was visiting with the family that she knew and ended up sitting next to a JW lady. The JW asked her what KH she went to. My aunt just laughed and said I don't go, I'm a Goat. -

There is a note below the picture on a second page. It identifies the 2 men as Carroll S. Madsen (left) and Joseph Leathers. It says it is an Associated Press Photo and is dated 6/10/40.

Sir Nose, I didn't think about that until after I had posted. What did they have guns for? It says it was a headquarters building but I'm not aware of one ever being in Kennebunk. If it was a headquarters where people lived maybe they hunted for food. Would you use gunshot pellets for birds or animals to eat?
My first thought was that if a mob was coming after me and was burning down my house, somebody's gonna get lead poisoning.
At what point do you quit turning the other cheek - after you are dead? (retorical)
You're right about fleeing, it they could have done so, you would think that would have been their first option. -

Looks like back then you couldn't defend yourself from a mob of 2000 attacking and burning the building you were in.
They locked up six of the 'victims' of the mob because two men IN the mob were wounded by gunshot pellets fired by the JWs.
Wouldn't this be considered self defense? Maybe that wasn't a defense back in 1940. -

For those who were raised in "the truth"
by Hangin_on inhow many of you always felt like you would be killed at armageddon no matter what you did... it was never enough and your parents put a guilt trip on you?

While I was terrified as a child of having to live through Armageddon, I don't remember being too afraid that I would not survive it.
By the time I was 30 I didn't care if I did die during A. I didn't want to live forever with the WTS and their followers anyway. -

The link is in this thread -- www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/124776/1.ashx
It was up and running last night. I started looking at some of it. The content is excellent. I am concerned the presentation will scare some JWs away. It's kind of spooky weird. Younger ones will probably love it.
