  do you still believe that yhwh from the old testament is a god of love?.

  what is your opinion about the jesus of the new testament?.

  i'm not asking if you believe they exist(ed)... just a character analysis based on what you read in the bible.. regards,.

  The god of the old testament, Jehovah, that I was taught about by JWs was full of hate and vengeance, very much like the WTBTS

  Jesus as taught by JWs has no personality and must always submit to the faithful and discreet slave class. He is very insecure and not a true leader at all.

  I do believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ because they work imo - am making my way through the gospel of Thomas and find that very enlightening. However I understand that the gospel of thomas isn't part of the bible, so have to admit I don't read the bible anymore.

  New to the board

  i am 26 , i was baptised at 12 (way to young to make that choice) df'd at 13, reproved at 16, and then finnally df'd for good at 19. i have been forced to leave behind my family and friends, but other than that have never been happier.

  i just found this board and i am very happy i have, it is great councelling, and look forward to many great discussions.

  watchtower march 15th 2007: page 27 the watchtower obsession with satan and demons seems to have no end.

  it is little wonder that jehovah's witnesses are so superstitious when they take in things such as the latest offering from the fds:.

  'ever since the wicked angels lost their original position, they have been the demon companions of satan and have served his evil interests.

  My family really want me to attend the sunday meeting in a couple of weeks. What is the talk? its How to avoid Satan's snares? I'm tempted to go and take notes and share with you all, but I don't think I'll be able to keep a neutral face.

  i've had a bit of a semantic tousle with a member of this board on whether the coercive techniques used by the wtbts to obtain and retain members is "brainwashing".

  i say "brainwashing" is not a good description of what goes on, i prefer "mind control", or coercive and deceptive techniques.

  he argued to call it something less than "brainwashing" is to water down the destructive effects of the wts on it's members and former members.

  I'm gonna go with you on this jignat because I tend to think of brainwashing in terms of prisoners of war and physical torture and such like. Whereas mind control inmho more accurately describes WTBTS tactics.

  As to the damaging effects - soft tissue damage is also an insightful analogy as it draws attention to how the damage done can be seen as very extensive, prolonged and painful.

  this thread was going to be about the true church.

  but i simply changed the title.

  okay ... so my experience thread set the stage for what seems to be a need to debate catholicism ... maybe because in the minds of many, there is a comparison to the watchtower ... a comparison which i believe is false.

  When I was a member of the RC or the JW's and I knew that what was being taught WAS indeed based on God's word, the teachings of Christ or that of the Apostles, then I DID follow it. But IF they taught things that I believed were not based on God's word, the teachings of Christ or the foundation laid by the Apostles, then I DID NOT follow it. Of course we need some type of arrangment within the body, but it is up to individual Christians to check what they are taught to the Word of God to make sure it is indeed "God inspired". (1Timothy 4:1).

  JWD is like a non judgmental therapist.

  Also the internet helps sort out whats real and whats not real. Metaphorically when I post on jwd it goes off into space and is gone when the thread goes, what's left behind ie me, is real, my thoughts are not me in other words. - So I find posting very sympolic and therapeutic.
