Trouble in Paradise??
by Gill ini was having a look at the accounts of three local congs as i had heard a bit about the borg beginning to run low on cash as donations are falling.
locally, i was very surprised to see the cash flow problems of these congregations.
i had a look at other areas and saw that there were a minority making a small 'profit', a lot breaking even when it comes to contributions and a fair amount that are losing the plot financially.. congregation 1. accounts for 2005/06 income was short 19,000, yes, their expenditure was that much over their income.. congregation 2. accounts for 2005/06 income was short 11,000.. congregation3.

WHAT THRESHOLD IS THAT,BERNADETTE?
When I looked up the figs for my x cong for each year it said 'below threshold.' But noticed that the figs on display on page 1 of this topic doesn't say that. -

It may be a way to keep the society under the threshold. I'm assuming that there is a financial threshold that the British wts must remain under to maintain theirr charity status - just guessing cos some of those outgoings are huge. Dosen't make sense

First & Last, One-time post
by journey-on ini have been lurking for quite some time now on jwd.
my story is pretty much just like everyone else's, "only the names have been changed".
in reading your posts, i have both laughed and cried till tears ran down my cheeks.

Hi journey-on
i really like paralipmenon's point
So my question would be, why let it be easy on her? Why give her an easy affirmation by shunning you? Why not call as often as you want? Invite her over for supper? Show up to help out? Make shunning you more of an effort than not and she might take the path of less resistance.
If they like being a JW, that is their own prerogative. You may have to accept that, but you don't have to accept their shunning.
You can actively show your love by not giving up on her.Together with your philosopy regarding the Self it may prove to be an irrisitable combination. I'm certainly going to give it a try - the text for today is from luke11:13 for instance. JW's do have some truth one can use to get people thinking in a more enabling way

LOVE, ALTRUISM & EVOLUTION
by Dansk ini'm an evolutionist.
one cannot argue that evolution isn't a fact.
however, i'd be interested in the better informed amongst us here explaining in simple terms how the feeling of love evolved.

There is a feelgood, wellbeing aspect to being loving and altruistic imo that perpetuates those qualities - both for the giver and receiver - a sort of cycle

My first look at an 'apostate' site
by ThomasCovenant inseveral years ago when i first started looking at tinternet i was still reticent to look at anything that may be taken as 'apostate'.
so typing in 'jehovahs witnesses' was not for me just yet.
however one little belief of theirs had always troubled me.

The paedophile issue worried me. Soon after I typed in undeserved kindness on the internet. That was an eye opener.

Is it wise to wake someone sleepwalking into the Watchtower trap?
by Gill inis there a time not to speak out?.
is there a time when it might be better not to say something and put doubts into someone's mind?.
we, as a family are 'faded' for well over five years now.

I think its wise for people to have both sides of the picture before committing themselves to anything. So my suggestion is to perhaps annonomously put info through their letterbox re websites such as freeminds to enable them to make an informed choice.
Some teenagers I know were getting involved - they'd go to the meetings every sunday - with a very dedicated sis and her teenager. Mum and dad were busy with work and thought it would keep their teenagers out of trouble if they got some religion. None in the family were having a study yet. I simply gave their grandma freeminds address and left it up to her. A young teenage cousin looked up the info on freeminds and shared with the 2 who were going to meetings. I understand they had quite 'interesting discussions'. The 2 teenagers decided to stop going.
My nonjw sister is helping another family she knows wherein the wife has decided to get baptized. I don't know how that one will turn out. Dad doesn't want to know but isn't opposed. How sad that situation will be if the wife goes ahead and gets baptized.

We are here for Adoption!
by new boy ini was taking to grace (mouthy) on the phone today in canada.....what a sweetheart she truly is.. we have decided to put ourselfs out for adoption.
since i have lost family members because of being a jehovah's witness for 52 years and since many here have lost wifes, husbands, children, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, and of course friends.. we have decided to put ourselfs out for adoption...............grace told me today she would be happy to be your grandmother to all that would like to have a grandmother..........i would love to be a father to anyone who would like to have a father.........that no longer has one.. we have this to offer to all...........the most important thing a parent, grand parent or friend can offer their child, grandchild or friend........and that is, unconditional love to all.......you are all perfect.the love that real family members may have is conditional.......but true love never is.
we are here for you all.............and anyone else here on this board that would like to be a grandparent parent, father, mother, sister, brother or friend ............. please let all here know now.. as the italians say "familia"...........we are family!........we are here for adoption.
