Their "biblical" reasoning on this issue leaves a lot to be desired also... the 2 birthday celebrations mentioned in the bible ended in death. A 3-year-old child has sounder reasoning than than that! Then it's claimed that a birthday celebration is "idolatry". Is a birthday party really any more idolatry than what goes on at the Kingdumb Hell when the Circuit Overseer comes around?

Wedding Anniversaries vs. Birthdays
by PopeOfEruke injw's often have big parties or "gatherings" to celebrate wedding anniversaries, esp.
for the big milestones (20th, 50th anniversary etc).. the process of these parties almost exactly mimic a typical birthday celebration: the couple of honour sit up the front, various people give speeches, show "honour" to the happy couple, there is a meal and drinks, usually an anniversary cake.. exactly the same as a birthday party.. so why is it ok to celebrate an anniversary of a wedding but not the annoversary of a birth??
when it's usually the "wedding" which sooner or later results in a birth??

even in the study articles, we have to explain terms like "pioneer" in ways that the public can understand.
What a crappy, lame excuse!!! Isn't the weekend lecture that comes along with the Craptower study called a "Public Lecture"? Isn't the public supposed to be there anyway?

Sounds like the poor brother must have been hauled over the coals in the "backroom" for agreeing to be a court witness. He should only be a witness for Jehovah.

I'm no longer afraid of having "worldly" entertainment on a meeting night or Assembly/Convention day. I watch R-rated movies and listen to "worldly" music. I'm no longer afraid of the CO and what he thinks about my "low" service hours ... or the resulting
badgeringsheperding call. I'm no longer afraid of making friends/ fostering friendships with "worldly, demonized" persons. -

Elders Giving Personal Opinions as Counsel,How did it Affect You?
by flipper inhey everybody.
when i was a witness one thing that drove me crazy was getting counsel from elders shooting personal opinions off their hip like it was from jehovah god himself.
how many times at assemblies, wt articles, etc.

I'm fading; married to an
non-JW"unbeliever". When I was getting married, an elder who found out about it deliberately went through the branch records to locate my mom's phone number. He had never even met her, but found it appropriate to dole out a "veiled" threat to her about attending my wedding. -

Thanks for all the input everyone.
The next time she raises the issue, I'll let her know that I'll be earmarked for destruction anyway since my heart condition is the deciding factor. And since "no one knows when they will die" I've decided to enjoy what time I have left and live by my own rules. I don't believe that I should be unhappy because of a promise that SHE made to Jehovah. She kept her promise by raising me in a certain way, but he also made ME a free moral agent and I've already decided.

Have you ever told her some of "truths" you know about the WBTS?
No I haven't. All I want is to be left alone. She seems quite happy in the 'Borganization' and I'm not keen on doing anything to "rock the boat" as it were since I'm happily faded (not DA or DF). Sometimes I come very close to giving her some true "Revelations" but decided not to in the end.

My mom's bugging me again about "considering going back to meetings". She's making the age old claim of it being sooo cloooose to the end, but then she backtracked, saying that even if it isn't close ... no one knows when they will die. I never wanted to go to meetings in the first place, and just went along for all those years just to please her. Now I'm finally enjoying my life and she's trying to send me on a guilt trip, telling me how much SHE WANTS me to go back since she's helping others to start attending again. What about what I want? I made a conscious decision to stop with the whole charade ... can't she just respect my decision?

What didn't you do because you were a JW that you now regret?
by jwfacts ini just bought a bottle of wine for an exjw's 30th that i am about to run off to.
on it there was a great quote by mark twain:.
"twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do... explore.

Oh how I regret believing that a teenager must grow up in a stifling atmosphere, not being able to live and enjoy life. I regret all the friends I could have known; all the friendships I could have had. I regret having to learn about the real "world" in my mid twenties, with everything seeming so new.
These are things that I now enjoy. I regret not discovering them much sooner.
