I think the library card idea is a great one! Any takers?

Coming Up October 24th!
by Outaservice ini noticed on my calendar that october 24th has been labeled 'united nations' day.. do you think it would be nice to send the society and maybe the local congregation a card thanking them for the support the organization has given to the principals of the united nations as a long time ngo?
of course we would want to prove that in the card with the proper sources of that information.. just wondering....................... outaservice.

When Meetings Went Overtime, What Did You Do?
by minimus ini used to start looking at the clock behind me, look at my watch, look at the speaker or person handling the part and give obvious facial expressions expressing my dissatisfaction.
it was a pet peeve of mine!
a few times when i had the last part in a service meeting, i'd say, rather sternly,"this originally was a 15 minute part but because we are running out of time, we will dispense with (whatever).".

I used to look at my watch constantly ... after I had packed away all my books and opened the song book to the scheduled song for that night.
If it were the bookstudy, I'd just keep looking at the exit.

What Birth Sign Were You Born Under ?
by flipper indidn't know if this has been addressed before , but it's kinda interesting.
when we were witnesses we were always told,oh!
don't look at horoscopes or read anything about your sign because it's demonized !

-A quick thought on birthdays.
by Awakened07 inthis thought just occurred to me:.
we all - even jehovah's witnesses - mourn our loved ones when they die.
we cry and wail, with good reason.

If it's really so wrong to celebrate birthdays because it's a kind of person-worship, then JWs should be consequent and stop holding funerals
And they should also stop worshipping at the altar of the Circuit Overseer too.

No spaghetti stringed dresses at KH or FS
by White Dove inmy advice to any victim of jw's that would complain about sisters wearing these pretty dresses would be to take a pair of scissors with them to the hall and cut the strings off right in front of the complainers and ask if that is better.
go strapless!

I think you hit the nail right on the head as to why they're against it .... the dresses are pretty! Have you noticed how the "sisters" are dressed on the Wacktower magazine covers?

10-15-07 WT - Shall I go to the wedding (or funeral) or shall I not go?
by Bonnie_Clyde inpage 27-29 (study article): both of these sisters, lois and ruth, have unbelieving husbands.
article explains that this can create challenges when there is a wedding or a funeral.
lois follows her "bible-trained" conscience and decides that she cannot attend with her husband because she doesn't want to be under pressure to break her integrity and certainly doesn't want to embarrass her husband.

I know I could never explain to my "worldy" relatives why I couldn't attend a funeral or wedding at a church especially if they attended a JW funeral service or wedding at Kingdom Hall.
My sentiments exactly! How hypocritical can they get? Here it is that J-Dubs go traipsing all over the place under the pretense of "preaching", inviting people to their Kingdom Halls, entering people's homes for a "bible study" ... yet still they won't accept those same invitations from others. Why want for others what you don't want for yourself?

By the time they put something obviously crazy in there, some months down the line, people will already feel so special that they will suck it all in
I agree! They'd probably be viewing the Kool-Aid edition as the "Divine Oracle".

Did all those refreshing moments/ideas make you cringe?
by Younglove1999 ini have to admit- the idea of having to live forever and having to continue going to meetings 1,000 times a week and studying "the new scrolls" sounded so annoying and tiring and not at all refreshing and exciting!
i honestly did not look forward to "it" .
when discussing how exciting going to assemblies and conventions would be and how we'd always leave feeling rejuvinated and happy, i never did.

Life in the so-called "New Order" seemed like high-apple-pie-in-the-sky to me. What's so refreshing about going to meetings every day of the week (since there wont be anyone to go out in field circus to convert).
Assemblies were just a way to lose a perfectly good weekend to a complete time-waster. Our poor dogs always suffered at Convention time ... even they were stressed out! It's sooooo great being able to do my own thing now.

What happens to marriage partners in the 'New System'?
by ThomasCovenant inscenario 1 ..................when one 'faithful' partner dies in this 'system' and is resurrected and the other survives through armageddon.
scenario 2...................both partners die and are resurrected into the 'new system'.
as members are now dying off this is the reality facing those longterm aged members of the borg.

Once your partner dies, you are free to remarry. When the partner is resurrected, that person is not only no longer married, but is no longer free to marry ever again.
If both partners die and are resurrected, then both are single when resurrected. The marriage ends when the first partner dies, and if the other dies later, the marriage is already gone. When both are resurrected, they are "as the angels" and single. Worse, neither are free to get married in that "new" order
This explanation made no sense to me either! True, one may reason that the marriage ends when one (or both) partner/s die ... but why can't they be married again? After all, the earth would need to be repopulated, right? And with the "old" becoming "young" again, are they saying that someone in this circumstance has to "continue alone" in the same way Jehovah found that Adam shouldn't? Such reasoning defies all logic!

Presiding Overseer's wife publically reproved.
by ThomasCovenant inlatest gossip round these here parts is that the wife of the presiding overseer has been 'publically reproved'.
nothing has filtered through about what the 'crime' was yet.. they are a young couple and he appears to me to be very conscientious in doing his best for the brothers.
i feel sorry for them as i have seen the pressure on them to juggle the demands of the cong with his wife who i think may suffer from depression.. thanks.

My heart always went out to some WOPs (wives of position) in the congregation. They always had to share their husbands time and attention with everyone else, and I often wondered if they could be truly happy in such a situation. Theocratic activities simply leeched all "down-time" out of the relationship. I remember once a sister was wishing for a sheperding call ... from her elder husband!
