It depends on what purpose. I love the poetic feel of the KJV but much prefer the NKJV for updated language. I understand that it is fairly literal, although I am not a "KJV only" person. I read the NWT of Psalm 23 to my children, and I have to say, no offense intended, we thought it was the funniest things ever written! As a lover of poetry, which the Psalms are, it just didn't have a poetic feel at all. for example "with oil you have greased my head"

Will this news make it into the local JW circles? I had discussions with them about the widespread problem of abuse in the churches and they did not mention any JW cases. Are they ignorant or covering up? What will they say about news reports as opposed to apostate reports of WT abuse?

Thanks to all who have posted thus far. I'm not sure about tape recording our study...lol. It might stifle the conversation a bit! You can be assured that I myself am praying before, during and after our meetings. If my JWs could hear who I am asking for help (as a Trinitarian) they would probably leave hastily!
my g-daughter and i were in the video store this morning.
[she was out of school with a cough and fever - they won't let her back for 24 hours].. as we prepared to check out in comes sister rita righteous.
actually i jest here - rita has been df'd three times as a fornicatrix, married out of the 'truth' to a drug dealer, has raised three children who never accepted the religion, and has never, in my 35 years of her acquaintance been 'spiritually minded' or 'active in the service'.. anyway - i am freshly announced as 'no longer one of jehovah's witnesses', and apparently she has heard.
A close family member was officially shunned by a different cult, but she continued to just show up at her parents and siblings houses, who although they wouldn't invite her in, ended up talking to her on the doorstep. She would also call on the telephone (before the era of spy phones) and just pretend that the shunning wasn't happening. They eventually all left the cult and realized how unloving it was, yes, and asked forgiveness for all those years of inflicted pain, admitting that they were in turmoil the whole time about the shunning, but submitted to the rules.

Thanks for your response. I know it seems like a bizarre question...and I'm not sure about the theological ramifications...as in, are they really praying to the God of the Bible since so much of what they believe is wrong, wrong, wrong...would they fall off the couch in shock if I asked the gentleman to pray...are they lurking on this board...and other questions like this!

I want to be careful in my answer because for all I know, my JWs may be lurking here too! I told them that I had attended an event to be better informed about an issue, and the look I received was fairly unveiled. It didn't offend me, though, because I know there is bondage there.

I am "studying" with some JWs and sometimes I think I catch a look of disgust or confusion on their face when I say certain things...but maybe it is my imagination?

What would be the response if I asked a JW to open our "discussion" in prayer to Jehovah for our eyes to be open to the truth of what we are about to study? That is, as a non-JW, my eyes are open already that this is not the truth, but would this freak them out? I believe Jehovah can do anything, and if they are sincere in their prayer, he might just answer them.
