Nana: I was reading in the "Proclaimers" history book (p. 241) that in 1966 "Music known to have originated with secular or false-religious sources was deleted." That would be those lovely 4 part harmony classic hymns that you used to enjoy. As a professional pianist and music director I would find it very difficult to be a part of an organization where I could not use my Jehovah-given talents to praise Him, and to help lead others in their worship...just because someone in NY decided everyone should sing to a CD instead. I am glad that you rescued the piano and hope that it is getting well-used by those who love to play.

creepy words to K Hall "hymn"
by truthsearcher indo any of you have the creepy words to the hymn with the line "loyal submission, in recognition..." when i heard it sung, it made my skin crawl because i knew they were actually singing to the organization not to jehovah.
it made me think of a facist rally and i realized this was mind control at its best--music has been shown to be a huge indoctrinational (is that even a word?
) tool.

In keeping with the JW theme, what if people substituted the name of their CO or Judicial Committee instead of Santa Claus? From what I've read on line about the DFing procedure, this could be close to the truth...try it using that sinister voice as was suggested.

Still doing Book studies before you left?
by truthsearcher ini just wondered how many of you were still doing books studies with potential converts and door to door work when you had already decided the organisation was not the truth?
how did this feel?
did you alter your approach?

Wow, Mama Bear, I can't imagine what that was like the day you walked out...how wonderful to have the support and understanding of your husband! Have you heard through the grapevine what was said after you left?? Your story is another classic example of how legalism is a yoke around the neck--the very thing that Christ condemned the Pharisees for doing.

One more thing, Coco, I did notice that this was difficult for the people to sing...
And now I digress: what about the fact that all KHalls (I was told) now just use a CD to sing along to, instead of a live pianist? So even if there was a qualified pianist, they would still have to use a canned accompaniment? And there is no digression from the orgs preselected songs...sounds medieval and ritualistic. For the sake of UNITY?

It seems to me that this is a classic case of doublethink. On the surface it seems to be about God.
The title is about submission to the "theocractic order" which means the organization. The words of the chorus really say, We owe it to Jehovah to submit loyally to the organization.
I was sure JWs would sing the classic and stirring Welsh hymn Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah in it (see words below), but then I realized that it takes the organization out of the equation. The feeding is from Jehovah, not the org. Jehovah is guiding, not the org. Too much independant thinking (plus verse 3 mentions being saved from hell). Definitely a no-no!
Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah
Pilgrim Through this barren land
I am weak but Thou are Mighty
Hold Me With Thy Steadfast Hand
Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven
Feed Me Till I Want No More
Feed Me Till I Want No More.

Thanks, that was the song. Does anyone else find it disturbing? Or am I being hypersensitive?

I just wondered how many of you were still doing books studies with potential converts and door to door work when you had already decided the organisation was NOT the truth? How did this feel? Did you alter your approach? Would the potential converts have known that something was up or would this have been too dangerous. (This is me wishfully thinking that the JWs who come over to "convert" me might be having doubts...)

Do any of you have the creepy words to the hymn with the line "Loyal submission, in recognition..." It made me think of a facist rally and I realized this was MIND CONTROL at its best--music has been shown to be a huge indoctrinational (is that even a word?) tool.(<--That's how I must have looked during the "hymn")

Well, guys, I received 2, just to make up for those of you who didn't get one. I use it to teach my family about why the JWs are a false religion. It's really important to take advantage of those "teachable moments".
