Has Anyone On This Board Ever Had a Near Death Experience?
by Rapunzel ini was wondering if anyone had ever experienced a n.d.e.
has anyone ever felt that they were visited by a family member/loved one who had passed on?.
i have read that some scientists theorize that n.d.e.

I would recommend another one of his books "Where God lives". It gives the scientific and also the religious side of NDE's. Good read, I liked it a lot. Sometimes I wish it was true, the way he describes NDE's are especially when a person is near death. I lost my sister almost two years ago and I really wish he felt the peace he and all the people who study NDE's say people near the end of their lives feel.

~ The WTBTS competition to see who is willing to suffer the most ~
by FlyingHighNow inisn't the whole crux of the wtbts organization and its purpose a competition to see who is willing to suffer the most?
here's a conglomeration of experiences i have read about in the mags or heard of at conventions: .
sister masochistic: she has lived in an iron lung since childhood, a victim of polio.

she has lived in aniron lung since childhood, a victim of polio. She is blind, deaf and mute and has stage IV cancer, yet she is a special pioneer. Her children are the best behaved, most well dressed of any witness children. She sews all of their clothing, being an excellent seamstress and all. They were baptized at 5 and 6 and already are regular pioneers. She has the cleanest, shiniest car on her street. Her yard is the most impressive of any yard in the neighborhood. The landscaping is superb and she does it all herself. She grows all of her own fruit and vegetables and shares her bounty with the local congo. Her house is spic and span and is decorated like a little dollhouse on a shoestring.
She is severely limited. Where did you hear this experience? I have a hard time believing this sister is capable of doing everything including being a pioneer. I am not saying that people with limited capacities are not able to do their best, but this sister is extremely sick and impaired and they are saying that she is also a pioneer. I don't believe it. How can you compete with that? You mean she is either auxiliary or regular pioneer, right? Not special pioneer, they put longer hours than auxiliary or regular.
Could you elaborate more on this experience and what assembly was this said on please.

Cindi - perhaps you should go back and read another thread of his. *He* is not terminating it. The wife wants too.
I just read his other thread. I'm sorry. Sometimes I go and read without checking who's post is it.
So I read she's been out for a while now too. And she is the one who wants to terminate the marriage anyway. These situations are very difficult to give counsel on. Have you thought about visiting a marriage counselor? If so, and hasn't worked, then consider visiting a psychologist for your own sake. Going through this without help is indeed very stressing and could lead to severe depressions. Of course we can counsel all we want, but I read your other post, and you seem to be heading in that direction already and we are no experts here, only people with good intentions to help.
Vent here all you want if that helps you calm down a little, but if you have the means, please seek professional help so you can overcome all these feelings of impotence and guilt you might be feeling. I've been there, I know how much depression can hurt. Don't give up on yourself and think as positive as you can.
Take care

Have u found a new faith since leaving?
by chuckyy ini was just wondering how many of you have found a "new faith" since leaving the jw"s. for instance, are u a member of another church, another religion, or are u now a committed atheist.
if u have found a new faith, what convinces you that its the right one?.

NOPE. Stuck in a spiritual and faith limbo. Nowhere to look, nothing satisfying enough for me to change.

An Open Letter from a PO to active JWs
by iloowy inhey.
i came across this open letter from a po to jw's in good standing.
eventhough it was written in 1976 a lot of the material in it is still a good source of info to get jw's thinking about beliefs.

The ''truth'' that lead me to question the WTS.
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe truth that leads to eternal life says on page 13:.
we need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with whichwe may be associated.
are its teachings in full harmony with god's word, or are they based on the traditions of men?

I personally do not have many greivances with specific teachings, even the blood issue doesn bother me.
Now I dont know why theres so much effort to control such minor things,
That is what made me rethink the reasons why I kept wanting to stay in the Org. What bothered me was the control over many minor things, that should be kept personal and a "real" matter of conscience.
Some of the teachings I still hold, and some I have "refined". The blood issue for example, I still will think twice about accepting a blood transfusion, but I will consider the situation before making a definite decision.
In other things, such as prophecy, that doesn't bother me too much either, although I do have some strong feelings about many explanations to prophecies in the book of Revelation that the Society applies to modern day conventions and situations amongst the Org. I don't know how they tie those to all these moments.

You asked: How in the hell did we swallow all this crap?
In my case I was born and raised in the cult. Baptized at 15. Like most kids, I believed what I was taught to be true was true. It took a few more years, until I was in my early 20's, before I was mature enough to start doing some "independent thinking."
So how is it then that so many JW's who are born and raised in "the truth" manage to stay in it for so long? All I can figure is that most JW's often deliberately supress and ignore their doubts because they know that to do otherwise might cost them their family and friends. A price that most people are simply not willing to pay in order to take a stand for what they know is really right and really true.
Amen to all of that. That's almost exactly what happened to me. I was baptized at 17. But didn't get to wake up until my late 30's.

How in the hell did we swallow all this crap? Was it a mental deficit? Were we inspired? Was it the family in the cult that made us? Were we looking for friends? Were we on drugs? Were there not any other religions or organizations that would fill our spiritual need? Did God want to punish us?
In reality this is what happened to many of us, including me. I found myself amazed to be among this group. In my favor, I was born and raised in the Org. How much more could I have done?
I took this from a website on critical thinking. There is a booklet you can download for free called, "Fallacies: The Art of Mental Trickery and Manipulation". In it it describes 3 types of personalities. The one I was more interested in was the second one: UNCRITICAL PERSONS (intellectually unskilled thinkers). Some of their characteristics are:
1. People that have not freely decided what to believe, but, rather, have been socially conditioned (indoctrinated) into their beliefs. Meaning of indoctrination: Teaching someone to accept doctrines uncritically.
2. When their beliefs are questioned they feel personally attacked.
3. They want to be presented with a simple-minded, black and white, world.
4. They want to be told who is evil and who is good.
5. They see themselves as "good" and see their enemies as "evil".
6. Visual images are more powerful in their mind than abstract language. (Why do you think the Society uses so many drawings and visual images?)
Those are to give you just a few examples of why we all believed all that.
Very interesting website and booklet. I am still reading it. You can only downloaded but not print it.

I thought this almost same talk was given last year or the year before on another assembly. What? Haven't we learned the lesson yet?
