as i was growing up my dad would always make a special effort to enlighten his catholic brother-in-law.

hed ask my uncle to get out his catholic bible and show him scriptures.

one of his favourite arguments was the doctrine of the popes infallability.

Uh, I always treat people as individuals. And while acknowledging that the Catholic Church has a centuries long record of abuses, that they have since changed and somewhat have tacitly disavowed, this is a no brainer.

In comparing the groups, the Catholic Church is way smarter. as FS said, they not only allow college, some of the best colleges are Catholic, as well as some of the best high schools.

If you can deal with liturgical chants, then brains are all over the place. JW's are smart in marketing, smoke and mirrors, and how to use lawyers to defend their gaping moral black hole.

olympic officials shocked to see the hockey players celebrating drinking beer and smoking cigars.. but canadians are even more surprised and shocked to see it wasn't molson!!!!.

leaving the wt - why?

so for some people, there is the one breaking point that makes people leave.

for me, not so much about doctrine, but about how people treated one another.

i always heard that we show we are the true religion because we have love among ourselves.

At first, it was rather selfish, (and I maintain, its not only proper, but right to do this for yourself): To wit, why promote a religion and way of life that has hurt you for senseless, defenseless reasons?

JW's are always fond of pointing out how bitter those who leave are. How convenient! Of course, this is tantamount to condemning the 9/11 widows for being pissed off because of what happened to their partners. (remember that? there was some backlash)

JW's hurt me, destroyed my marriage, and as an elder and missionary, I got to see how they destroyed other people and families as well. I was almost killed in an overseas country that ships young indoctrinated people overseas in groups of 50 twice a year to spread their poisonous propaganda to the ignorant in ill informed. How could I promote that? How could I stay in it?

I firmly believe that the reason to leave must always be personal, whatever personal reason it is for each individual. Without real damage, unfortunately, people will stay around with a dull sense of pain and a dull questioning of why they are in pain, never realizing that the reason is the cult they belong to.

palin refers to herself as one of the little people, as in the above post, but i believe she has quite a bundle in assets and cash.. so multi-millionaires are "little people"?
