Reagan gave the Cubans a free pass, but in this, I think they are an anamoly.
Until 9/11, I honestly don't think either side gave a crap about immigration. And unfortunately, 9/11 politcized it too much to come to some kind of effective compromise policy that is needed.
And here we are today.

Beks, the problem with the Left on this issue isn't the morality, its the dim level of pragmaticism on this issue. (don't get excited BTS) I sense that the Left would rather do nothing then to have to throw people out or tighten border policies.
Again, I think those sins aren't as bad as the racial profiling law in AZ. (I know we agree on that).

Well Beks, I assure you that Dems are not for some legit ideas on immigration out there, due to their voting interests. Having said that, their constituency (for whatever reason) does put them, however accidental it is, on the correct moral side of the arguement, imo.
Listen, this is tar baby messy, and no one side has the monopoly of good ideas or motives. On this issue, both sides of the aisle piss me off.

The fact that profiling is done de facto doesn't mean that it should be legitimized.
Hey, I appreciate having our say. Illegal immigration is a very big issue, and I agree that something drastic needs to be done. It appears we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

This law doesn't protect law abiding citizens. It serves to feed a right wing point of view and voting bloc. This law is incorrect and addresses the wrong issues on the immigration issues facing America.
Btw, I am (perhaps surprisingly) a little bit right handed on immigration. Border patrol and walls? No problem. I liked Bush's idea of illegals getting to the back of the line and some kind of amnesty for those who have been here a while.
But I will never be in favor of a law that allows racial profiling.

Sorry, that was totally uncalled for. I am a liberal independent pragmatic. I have no idea what that makes me, although these days, I typically vote Democrat until given a reason otherwise.

Yeah, I know Robdar, but I am a pragmatic. It happens. Am I happy about it? Doesn't really matter.
Now in a democratic republic, the law in Arizona is a little more troublesome then if some of my posts get censored on a private internet board.
Having said that, my issue is ultimately that the AZ law is bad law, bad policy.
