The Way Things are, Not How You'd Like Them To Be
by AllTimeJeff inat 37 years of age, i'm much to young for feeling this damn old, so apologies for sounding less than idealistic, but...... we need people who will be honest and true to themselves.
having offered jws the entire decade of my 20's while they tried to suck out my soul, i have come to appreciate how little of a desire these days i have to change the world.
which was sad at first.

It's not that I care whether or not someone wants JWs to go away. I wish they weren't around. If I can point out one difference, someone like Randy Watters wants to help those who want to help themselves. That exposé of what the JWs are really is way more powerful than internal movements IMO.
Lets pretend for a moment that a group or movement did bring down JWs. What would you be left with? People in need of help. Bitter people who would try to start their own cult.
If you must, go for it if that's your calling. I personally feel its a waste of time, but more power to you for the attempt.

Sauerkraut, all the best to you. There is never a one size fits all solution where leaving JWs are concerned.
I agree with everyone here. Long Hair Girl, I think you're right. They'll change and evolve, which doesn't seem fair, but that's how the cookie crumbles.
Leavingwt, I know my leaving affected a lot of people. They were stronger with me, weaker without me. I'm stronger without them. :)

Who On This Site Would You Like To Meet?
by minimus inthere are a lot of interesting people that frequent this site.. sometimes, we get an idea of what the posters are really like in "real life".
and i'm sure i could be easily surprised by some that you think might be strong personalities because of their board presence, and in reality, they might be shy in a face to face setting.. i would enjoy meeting simon.
simon used to be terribly annoyed by my posting and now i think he's accepted with tolerance my being here.. farkel seems like a grouchy cantankerous fellow but i think he'd be very interesting company!.

It's funny that this thread is here. I was thinking about this the other day, because I have been a loner since I left. I will keep the names of the people I want to meet here to myself, but I would like to meet a few people and I think it would do me good.
Ok, I do want to meet Farkel and Terry for the intellectual stimulation. And Randy Watters at some point for sure.
I met a few people when I first left on a similar site. Overall, a positive experience, but then I went into exile. One of these days..... :)

I left the Witnesses over 10 years ago, but finally went back
by JakeMarley inthe entire time i was gone it was nagging at me.
i hadn't been previously baptized, so leaving wasn't that big a deal.
now i'm back in the swing of it, going to all meetings and field service.

Jake, fear of any kind leads to control, not happiness.
If you aren't happy, and you are also scared because the world is in tumult, that in no way means that JWs are right. It just means that you have yet to be comfortable in your own skin outside of a KH.
Sadly, you seem to be the kind of person that the leadership of JWs preys upon, those who are in fear and don't know any other way. I wish you the best, so long as you are truly honest with yourself about what you see.
DONT BE AFRAID TO QUESTION OR ASK QUESTIONS. READ EVERYTHING, NOT JUST JW BOOKS.
PEACE!!

Whathappened that is a difficult situation. And very common. You can't give up on your family, but you have to also live a life that gives the people you love something to look at and say "I wonder...."
I wish you the best, and hope those kids get out and have the opportunity to become their own people. :)

Which was sad at first. I used to sell 'Living Forever', and all sorts of other large ideas. It feels great when you drink the kook aid and believe that you're doing something great and grand. It's also a letdown when you realize that you not only bought the lie, you tried to sell it!
So I hope you won't mind when I try to be realistic and point out that movements that try to bring down JWs are essentially a waste of time. Former JWs alone working to bring them down won't work.
However, what will bring them down is when you live your life, (something that does bother the leadership) and try to make a difference. Randy Watters, Barb Anderson and others who have been pretty deep in and who are just honest and put out there what is really going on make a huge difference, and they have personally helped me greatly Lawsuits over criminal activity will also help.
Basically, as with all corrupt groups, JWs will destroy themselves with their inner rot and the hubris of their leaders. I, along with others, have tried to expose with our stories what we know and saw. Speaking personally, my goal was never to "bring down" JWs, but to be a resource for anyone honest enough to consider what the facts are.
I think if you really feel the need to change the world, you're going to have to go down that road. But you don't need to change the world to make a difference. By being honest, you can save a few people out there worth saving, starting with yourself.

Two items that are not true:
- Jehovahs Witnesses
- Satan
I look forward to the time when no one believes in either of them.

Why get "personal" when discussing a topic?
by Terry intrading insults happens among kids all the time.. intellectual development hasn't progressed to the point where they can present contrary ideas and opinions with persuasive appeal to reasons, facts and logic.. "i know you are; but what am i?".
"your momma's so fat....".
so, they fall back on childish mocking, provocation and personal attack.. as we grow older and have more education and sophistication our minds should mature---or so you'd think!.

There are two forms of ignorant retorts that bear on the matter
Satire/Mocking
Shit stirring
I feel I've been guilty on occasion of passive aggressive shit stirring if I don't like a poster. Instead of trusting that an intelligent reader can decipher the crap, I have been baited into mocking someone who disagrees with me, and visa-versa.
On the other hand, sometimes, satire is a great release, and it is generally aimed at no one, except for the perpetually sensitive. ;)
In short, maturity matters the most. Most experienced Internet readers know that there will be idiotic comments and posters in occasion. Generally speaking, after a small bit of satiric fire, they are usually ignored.
Ignoring those who disagree with you is sometimes a more mature position than a fight.

How Do You Think The Watchtower IT Department Is Responding To The Anonymous Threat?
by DT inso anonymous has declared its intentions to utterly destroy the watchtower society.
this will likely include attacking the official websites and trying to obtain the database of 23,000+ pedophiles in the organization.. i have never served at bethel so i would appreciate the input of those who have.
do you think they are taking this threat seriously?.

This is the first I'm reading of this. GREAT IDEA! Let's hack their website and bring negative attention to JWs. Since they are already viewed as normal, maybe this will help.......
Are you listening to yourself? Seriously? Maybe Anonymous can pose for pictures on what "evil apostates" do.
It sure is fun to read what small minds have in store for the WTBTS.
