I prefer chemistry to hair color, but seem to go for darker features at first glance....
Blonde hair isn't a deal breaker though. Hell, I'm blonde!

God is whispering at an unaudible level in ancient hebrew to the english speaking members of the GB.... I hear he has been ignoring Losch though, because every breeze he hears he swears god is speaking.... God thinks he is an idiot among idiots....
God also ordered a pepperoni pizza yesterday from Papa Johns.... He likes their name....
That was the first song my dad taught me... I love Knoxville during a Saturday.... Every pop song with "Tennessee in the lyrics is played before the game... But Rocky Top is still the best.. Thanks RF!
Tennessee fan here. I hate them all! And as a Dolphins fan, I REALLY hate Nick Saban. (you really don't want to know what they call him in Miami....)
The SEC is by far the toughest division in college football, as usual. Another yearly bloodletting. Everyone beats everyone and no SEC team is going to win the championship this year. But if they had a playoff as they should, then at least one SEC team would be in the title game. Any SEC team in the top 25 beats Boston College on a neutral field all day long... Even Kentucky!
dress to impress, get all slathered up and have your little or lots of flesh showing, depending on your blouse, skirt, pants or shorts....that people(men) are not supposed to stare at you?.
seriously, if your at home in your closet deciding which outfit you're gonna wear to work, school or out to play, and thinking how you'll look more attractive in this or that....do you not know that guys are gonna stare at you?
but you see these females on occasion that will get all in an uproar when some guy is staring at them....but hello...didn't you choose with pin-point accuracy, the exact top that's gonna reveal your cleavage at it's fullest?????
This was a great thread. I have enjoyed the debate and responses, even the ignorant ones....
I'll start with a personal experience. My ex, who put the odd in modesty, was once singled out by a newly baptized brother while I was an elder. He wanted me to talk to her because he felt her clothing was too "tight" and thus he was "distracted". Short of dressing her like Casper the Friendly Ghost, I really couldn't have dressed her less provacatively. HE was the one with the problem. It wouldn't have mattered how other "sisters" dressed.
That about sums up how I feel on this topic. From your first post Ness, I interpreted it to mean that you see a double standard. (i.e. A woman shouldn't complain about a man staring if she chooses to dress in a way that is "provocative".) I disagree. Once again, a woman needs a mans approval to dress and then approval to express themselves if they don't like the way a man looks at them.
A woman wants to show cleavage and yet be treated as an equal. And this is offensive... how?
I think a woman should be free to dress however they individually feel comfortable and then tell a man whatever the hell she wants!
Let me tell you why this is somewhat of a sexist topic to begin with: Men NEVER have to deal with this. Do men have to deal with people questioning what they wear? No. Do they get away with saying almost whatever they want? (excluding Don Imus, et al) Usually....
While acknowledging the differences between men and women, I am a guy who is looking (and working) for a world where we are just people with different parts! (isn't it a fact thats what we are?) If a woman shows cleavage in her outfit choice, yeah I notice. I don't know why she has cleavage showing and I don't care! That is her business. I ALWAYS engage women for who they are, not what they wear. To do otherwise means Y O U have the problem. You are setting up your own rule (i.e. I am a guy and won't respect you unless I can't see any part of your breasts.) If that is your thing, that is YOUR thing. It shouldn't be a womans problem anymore.
Guys, considering that for thousands of years that women had to do and dress how the (male) powers that be wanted, (and except for the western world, this lamentable situation still exists for hundreds of millions of women,) can we get off the "I can't think because you dress to sexy" train? What kind of knuckle dragging Neanderthal feels this way? Ridiculous! This premise is wrong where it stands....
Edited for paranthetical thought. I have tons of them....
overheard:.
"is your cup half full or half empty?
"well, depends on whether you just poured something out or poured something in.".
I feel moved to respond to what you wrote Terry. I enjoyed your insights.
I am after a year out of the borginization trying to get my life back together. For those who use to be my friends, they would look at me alone and say "The GB is right, this is what happens to all who leave." What they would fail to realize is that I am pondering my remaining years, reorganizing for the future....
I don't have many insights to offer, but the reason I respond to this is that there are a few basic precepts that I believe all men and women have; their own autonomy, their own uniqueness and talents that so often lie buried. Their freedom to think and be themselves untethered to a religion or political philosophy. etc etc etc. I am a big believer in the potential of each person. It brings to mind one of my favorite quotes from Mairanne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
I still struggle with the concept of god, which isn't the point of this thread. What I do love and think is true about this observation is that there does seem to come a time in any decision or enterprise where we can see how it can be done. Maybe it isn't as pretty as we thought it would be or would like it to be, but the point is that we can do it! And that is the thing I appreciated about Terry's post here. Attitude.
The minute you tell yourself you can't, you won't.
The minute you think you are beaten is the minute you won't get back up and try again. You are only defeated if you stay down.
These comments aren't meant to say that I have all the answers. Far from it. But again, that isn't the point either. There are no answers other then what works for me. And what works for you. If anyone who has ever been a part of the JW cult can take one thing from your experience, hopefully it is that the individual is as important, if not more so then the sum of the whole.
I can't say for sure if this life is all there is. Thiests would argue otherwise. But I think we can all agree that this life is all we can control at the moment. This life is all we are being asked to participate in. Our body, health and decisions may or may not have consequences in a great beyond, but they certainly do affect you now! If god exists, surely he would want us to be happy, and to take care of the life he (may) have given us.
Thanks for sharing Terry. You have given me a new angle to ponder on my own journey.
i hope everyone is doing well.. .
is there anyone out there well-versed in the 'shepherd' book and judicial proceedings?.
a wee bit o' background..... i have been 'out' for about 3 years now.
Ex Elder (and happily an ex) will tell you what should happen:
They can't DF you if they don't even know you. If it is as you have described, I think you are ok.
I agree with others who say not to divulge your lifestyle choices with your cult following parents. It sounds to me like they (your parents) aren't going to do anything to you. From my experience, if you simply tell them that for the time being you would like some time and space on the JW front, then I think that may do the trick. I would avoid making an issue of JW topics with your parents. Many (myself included) who have tried to talk to JW parents still in have been amazed at how resistent they can be to the thought that JW are wrong.
If YOU are the one who insists on sharing your lifestyle choices and feelings on the JW's consistently with your parents, you are putting yourself at more of a risk to have something done. I am not saying that you will be disfellowshipped in absentia, but it could happen. It all depends. Discretion would be the better part of valor in your case. It isn't fair, but that is the hand you have been dealt. All the best to you!
the one mistake we all made.
and the january 15, 2008 watchtower.
page 24 the governing body makes the following statement: .
I used to wonder when I met the occasional "apostate" why they always said "You all believed this in 1919..." I would say to myself.. "Yeah, but its 19freaking90..."
Oh yeah, the "Slave" was appointed in 1919... Teaching nothing they teach today. So how could it be truth?
Easy to see now. This demonstrates something the GB is doing with their new study book. Make a simple statement like "Jesus appointed the faithful slave for teaching truth in 1919.." and make it sound like it is as factual as "The Decleration of Independence was signed on July 4th 1776." Thats it. No further explanation needed. They cleverness is in the lack of facts provided...
In any case, logical follow up is never allowed. God knows if the WT WAS teaching the truth, you can bet they'd be rubbing all of our noses in it. Those morons tend not to be subtle on the couple of accidental times they are correct on something....
hello all, happy sunday to you!!.
just read quandrys post about the 2007 annual meeting notes.
this comment made during that meeting just got under my skin, so i decided to start a thread to show the dictionarys definition of both of the words.
Thanks for the dictionary, something the GB forgets to consult when convenient. This is obvious bull. It is obvious to those who have left and have had the opportunity to examine the history of the decisions and doctrine of the WTBTS that there is no evidence of being directed by the holy spirit.
I have a better question, for those who believe the bible. Where is it in the bible that this distinction exists? If you claim that the holy spirit picks the 144,000 (JW do) and that the holy spirit defintely picked JW's after 1919 (JW believe this too), is it too much to believe that the holy spirit would help these idiots get a few doctrines right? How about prophecies?
Ok, so we know that this is their way of dodging accountability for their false statements on prophecies and doctrine. Bottom line, the bible has only one criteria, spirit inspired. There is no such thing as spirit directed. You will never read about anyone in authority in the bible being wrong. (admittedly, they are biased) But if JW's applied the standards they apply to other religons, then no religion is spirit inspired. (I am not surprised....)
i have noticed that if someone has an opinion that does not go with the flow on this forum they often get insulted and shot down in flames.
i thought this was a discussion forum, but i am sadly dismayed to read so much intolerance of another's opinion.
if you appear to support the jw's in any way, even though people like me may disagree with you, you are entitled to your opinion.
I never thought of this forum as a support forum per se. As has already been noted, discussion often does mean debate.
I do see opinions shot down. I don't have a problem with that. I do have a problem with rudeness, but I accept that there are rude people on this forum and they have their right to be rude. You wanna know how to handle a rude response? Don't address the rudeness. Bring your "A" game and address what he said with your well thought out arguement. If you ignore bullies, you disable them 100%. Esp in an internet forum. (of course, if you don't have a well thought out response, maybe you should like at what you believe and why you believe it.)
Anyone associated with the JW's are at various places in their journey, so I try not to be thin skinned. Bring it on. The more the merrier......
