God and Suffering
by AK - Jeff ina few weeks back, in the midst of the haiti tragedy, much discussion took place in cyberland about the tolerance [or indeed the insistence on] suffering by a loving god.
the furor over haiti has settled a bit [as unfortunately most tragedy is wont to do far too quickly in the human mind], but this persistent matter continues to chew at my subconscience.
today i came across this:.

God is not simply our disinherited ancestor, he is also a King of a vast Kingdom.
Fairy tale.
Disobeying God required death, that was the deal right?
No it didn't happen. The snake didn't talk the woman into eating a piece of fruit that the voiceover forbade. Its still a fairy tale.
God didn't disnherit mankind, he disinherited Adam....mankind was simply inside of Adam.
Ridiculous. If I kick out the Dad with his kids, I kick out the kids too. What difference would it make? If it weren't a fairy tale to begin with?
Of course the above does require reliance on the biblical account and I understand if you don't want to go there.
Thanks for that. I don't want to go there, because its a fairy tale.

Should Tiger Woods apologize publicly to the woman he had an affair with?
by journey-on inleave it to gloria allred to grab the limelight.
she and her client, the ex-porn star, want tiger to apologize to her.
do you think he should?

Gloria Allerd should take her monthly shower, turn off the TV, tell her pimp that she is taking the night off, and chill. What a waste of DNA.

AK Jeff, this wasn't the purpose of your original question, but since Perry has offered as an answer to the "why suffering" question that we are sinners and that is why suffering exists, and we are born sinners and thus alienated from god, that premise merits further investigation before it is accepted, as you very well know.
For Perry, being a Christian is all about accepting that we are sinful, alienated from god, and that only Jesus can save us.
Without the original sin from Genesis, there is no need for Jesus sacrifice.
If you believe that the Garden of Eden story in the first 3 chapters of Genesis really happened, well, I bet you believe that the whole Earth flooded one time because YHWH got ticked....... Oh.
See, at what point are you willing to suspend reality to believe that you are sinful and that this somehow explains suffering? It's all connected if you are a bible believer.
So what is illogical in pointing out that if you believe in sin that requires forgiveness through Jesus sacrifice, that this sin originated thanks to talking snakes in a ridiculous story that actually condemns god? Are we supposed to feel sorry for god that they ate *gulp* a fruit and that they were tempted by *huh* a snake that talks?
There is no point in hypothesizing about if its just for god or not to judge people as evil if the whole thing is based on a fairy tale.

Farkel, I am watching the Olympics, and all I see are Canadians too!
I am not liking my chances of becoming Canadian. Polygamy isn't an option for me. I am not rich. I am discouraged.
Maybe I can move to North Dakota and ask Outlaw for a visit. He can teach me how to live the frontier life.

A Twist ending to the BLOOD policy of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Terry inthe seven laws of noah are: .
1. belief in a supreme being and the prohibition ofworshipping any other beings.. .
2. respect g-d and do not blaspheme his name.. .
-

It's too late for JW's. Were they ever to disavow the blood doctrine, they would open themselves up to lawsuits galore. They would shut down.
LD, I think you are right, but its going to take a gradual doctrine shift that will take decades.

FOOD at the proper time and NEW LIGHT from the Golden Age/Awake!
by Terry inwe do well to bear in mind that among the drugs, serums, vaccines, surgical operations, etc., of the medical profession, there is nothing of value save an occasional surgical proceedure.
their so-called "science" grew out of egyptian black magic and has not lost its demonological character.... we shall be in a sad plight when we place the welfare of the race in their hands.
[1] 1. the golden age, aug. 5, 1931, p. 727.. the journal of the a. m. a. is the vilest sheet that passes the united states mail.... nothing new and useful in theraputics escapes its unqualified condemnation.

Cult!
Sorry, I wish I could be more profound, but that quotable bullshit speaks for itself. Accountability demands that we hold the GB responsible for not even apologizing for printing it, even when they insist that since 1919, Jesus chose them.
But, you can't make people who are indoctrinated understand. Hopefully some lurkers will read this and slowly understand that they have supported a man made cult, as hard as that is to accept, and the proof is the very words that JW's use to print, and every stinking prophecy that they have had to change, and still change, waiting for one to come true.
Cult.

What it means if JW's are wrong??????
by omerp inthe jehovah's witness are notorious for ranting about their favourite religion to pick on and that is the catholic church.
my question is, if they are false.
prophets, etc... then what they said about the catholic church should be suspect also.
-
AllTimeJeff
Ok, I think we can rule out the "if" part.
JW's like to pick on the Catholic Church in the same way Ahmadinejad picks on the United States. It's just a big visible target known by all that allows him to spew his ignorance.
Since Rutherford, JW's have been a marketing religion, designed to define themselves against the religions they are competing against for members by using a formula that reinforces what they aren't. Comparing themselves to other religions is the only way they ever get members.
Their whole rallying cry is "WE ARE DIFFERENT!"
Let me put it this way, if the Catholic Church were a monotheistic religion that worshiped Jehovah, then Jehovah's Witnesses would be a Trinitarian religion that worshiped Jesus. Just as long as they are different, thats all they care about.
