This is the strategy that should be used on information like this that gets out.

Let the legal dept still think its the 1940's and that their job is to "defend and legally establish the good news." Perfect.

In the meantime, V's latest video points out something interesting. They went after one source, YouTube. V pointed out what was painfully obvious, that the WTBTS has stuff to hide. The GB is painfully unaware of the power of the internet. If that was their warning shot across the bow, I would suggest they invest in Cialis or Viagra. You know, so they can really shoot....

As others have noted, it makes a mockery of their claim that they have the truth, even as they try to hide "copyrighted©" outlines. Would Jesus do this? Paul? Not likely, since writings attributed to them have been hijacked by (of all people, drum roll please) the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Anyway, good job V!

V should redo the video. Give into their legal team. They always win. Splice and dice the outline. (but show a picture of it front and back, with the title bolded but the text shadowed out) That will let the GB know (and others in the know) that it is the real mcoy.

I mean it. Change the video. Take advantage of it. Mention in the video that on Youtube, the WTBTS of PA came after V. That V altered the video to meet Youtube/copyright rules, but that nothing material to the point of the video, or what was on the outline, changed.

This just shows me that there are certain apostates that the GB really does pay attention to.

Which means that at least one GB member has to watch these videos.

Which means that said GB member is truly a lier. And the rest of them

Which means other non GB heavies watch these videos too.

If they didn't care, they wouldn't go after V. But they care. They are also trying to smoke him out. Imo.

I will be following this.

In my opinion, there was a clear effort by the creators to give everyone an ending that most people would relate to. (even if they might now agree with it)

Thus, the Christian symbolism, ending in church, in heaven. I mean, they couldn't have done it it Buddhist style since their target audience is here in the United States.

I think that the last episode was first and foremost a nod to the hardcore fans. The show wasn't about the island. It was about the people. In the end, the Island was a backdrop to some interesting people put in an unusual circumstance, and it allowed some great human drama to be played out.

This was a show that mastered the backstory as a way of storytelling. You saw where they were, and those little backstories was what caught everyones attention. What made them LOST wasn't that they were stranded on the island. They were already LOST. The island became a metaphor (imo) for something that relatively few it seems are succesful at; the need for introspection. Being stranded allowed everyone to behave to either their lowest (Ben) or highest (Locke) denominator. It allowed them to be who they really were and to reflect on their past, to have a showdown with themselves, to look in the mirror and ask "Is that who I was? Is this who I am? Is this what I want the rest of my life to be about?"

The Island gave us all that we needed to fill in the blanks, myths and legends, good and evil, fear and doubt, faith vs logic. Love vs fear. (the love vs fear angle, which I admit is my rorshach test, was always very compelling to me, summed up best by Locke)

I kept up with it somewhat, but I lost track of LOST shortly after I left the cult. (only one set of myths to figure out at a time) I am going to rewatch from episode one. For me, the show was actually simple. I never got why people tried to "figure out" the nuances, like the island, and all the bad guys and time morphs. Imo, it was all a device to tell simple human stories of LOST people. To me, the final episode validated that for me more then anything.

Twisting Scripture vs A Literal Reading

knowing that passions run deep on this matter, i have what i believe to be a very simple premise for a discussion of how to read the bible.. terry has labored over the last couple of months to demonstrate (in my view, conclusively) that the bible is far from unaltered, and often mistranslated.

these facts, inconvenient as they might be for believers, are nonetheless, a problem for those who claim that the bible is the word of god.. this is not what i wish to discuss... rather..... jehovah's witnesses come from a tradition of "reading in" or "adding meaning" to the scriptures.

no one jw outside of the governing body is allowed to do this.. but why is it necesarry?.

Good discussion, as always, I think everyones comments speak for themselves.

TD summarized my views on this.

Taking the Bible literally does not mean ignoring literary devices. When Jesus told Peter to, "..feed my sheep" he obviously was not talking about ungulates in the genus Ovis.

There are very clear literary devices in the words attributed to Jesus, but in most cases, they are easily born out in the context or comments. When Jesus spoke of sheep or leaven, then it was clear what he was saying.

Leolaia also makes a great point, and for whatever reason, it is a point that those who WANT to believe that the bible is a unified message will not look at. The simple evidence is, what we call the bible, is actually a collection of letters written at a specific time and about a specific people. There is nothing unified about the book or "the message."

In short being literal doesn't mean ignoring clearly stated allegories and metaphors within the writings.

My point is simple: To me, if you are the least bit intellectually honest, then you have as much ability to make conclusions about the message of the bible as any theologian. Read it literally, ask the obvious questions, and accept the obvious answers.

Hey there notverylikely. Yup, thats the point. Literal reading prevents twisting of scripture, which equals not being misled by those who do interpret twist the scripture.
