Some might say that it was a waste of time you going back to meetings in the first place but it got you off the drugs so that in itself is good.

Elders: How were/are you to be towards the disfellowshipped?
by R.F. inas we know that the elders are the only ones officially allowed to seek out disfellowshipped ones for the purpose of helping the get back into the congregation.
i was wondering though, how are they to treat the df'd when out in public?
are they instructed to completely shun them then?

The last time I had a call from an elder was in July (ish) because I attended the memorial last year.
Presuming they're following the usual routine, should I expect a call soon to remind me of the memorial, or wait for the annual call in July? I have no idea what I'm supposed to say. I still don't know if I've been disfellowshipped or not. -

I need to lose some weight and I'm certainly fond of other women, but I don't look like a man.

Apart from "My Book Of Bible Stories" and the "Paradise" book?
by Crumpet incall it my anal retentious streak, but i've rated every book i've ever read since i was 7. i had phases of favourite writers.. i was an enid blyton fan - the faraway tree, famous five, secret seven, mallory towers series.
then i got hooked on franklin w dixon's hardy boys and judy blume's eye opening, straight talking stories about growing up which really taught me everything i knew about what life was like for a normal girl not growing up in the jw world.
i started reading agatha christie when i was 9 and remember taking the maximum number of books i could from the mobile library van that came to our village and being as impatient for its fortnightly return as i was for the afternoon icecream van.

Crumpet- wow a 1920 edition? I nearly bought The Moonstone the other day but it was 8 quid and I'm a broke student. I have had The Woman in White on my shelf for a while- Waterstones sell them published by the Modern Library- they're just gorgeous to hold and read; books are my life.

I was an Enid Blyton fan, and Judy Blume, Paula Danziger, Roald Dahl.
Then I got into the Nancy Drew Files, the newer Nancy Drews. I think they were written by a different person because I'm sure she must have been dead by the time the new ones came out.
Then when I was 16 I read the CS Lewis books for the first time- Narnia was like paradise to me, and it was actually more believable!
Then last year I read all the Harry Potter books over the summer, in the conservatory, eating Ben and Jerry's Phish Food. Oh, those were the days!
At the moment I'm reading "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins- it's Victorian Gothic, and amazing!
Great thread, got me thinking about books!
By the way, if ever anyone wants to PM me/MSN me and discuss books I would love it. I know it's sad but am studying to teach English and books are my life. -

Most people, like I did, like going because lots of congregations in the area get together and it's cool to catch up with people you haven't seen in a long time.
Your wife will get sympathy for being there on her own, without a husband, and they will be sweetly patronising about how well she's doing and the effort she's made. Because of course, it's presumed you oppose her the whole way and make her life hell. -

I didn't expect a name, I just wondered when SHE was going to introduce herself. Everyone gets welcomed here, you wouldn't need to worry about that. The bit where people were suspected was because the forum had PMT, that's all.

Maybe if he introduced himself we'd know who we were welcoming?

Great story- I could actually picture it, especially the bribing for dirty movies...
My gift is that I'm obscenely clumsy... when I recently lifted up the tower of my PC at work there was a festering puddle of coffee that had collected underneath from all the times I've knocked my cup over.
One time, too, a sister found a really nice hair clip that she thought I'd like and she gave it to me at the hall, I took it off her gratefully then proceeded to open it and break it right in front of her. Oops. She shuns me now- she tells herself it's because I'm a big dyke but i think it's because she still feels like I pissed all over her generosity.
