Sorry, JGnat, I'm confused- how can you attend Witness meetings and at the same time be a practicing Christian of another denomination? Might have read your posts wrong, sorry! Not been on here for a time.

God, I am so envious of you, Chariklo! I wish I was in the position to say "thanks but no thanks" before feeling vicitmised. Once you emerge from that baptism pool, they will have you by the proverbials. The thing is, if you stay unbaptised, you can have as much of the nice (albeit conditional) association as you want, if that's why you're comfortable with organized religion. But once you're baptised, they literally own you. And I don't use the word 'literally' often. You are answerable not to God, but the elders. They will want to know about every hour you do in field service. They will want to know why you didn't attend a meeting. God HELP you if you have sexual thoughts outside of marriage and/or act on them. They will get off on the intricate details of all your failings and decide THEMSELVES if you are fit for God's forgiveness.
I struggle sometimes with my beliefs. I certainly believe we are far too intelligent, complicated and fascinating as humans simply to have evolved. But I won't have some men in America tell me who I can love, what I put into my body, and how I spend my time. You will be policed. And the thing is, you can leave now and people in the congregation will see you in a whimsical, dreamy "what could have been" way, and they will still talk to you and encourage you back, or you can get baptised, and let the doubt eat at you, then eventually leave, and watch their wrath.
You are intelligent and independant, and because of that, we cannot make up your mind for you. We cannot accuse the society of telling people what to do, and then instruct you to leave the Witnesses. Just get all the facts, before you're not allowed to. Once again, that baptism will change your life. It won't be your life anymore. It won't be Jehovah's, like they say it will. IT WILL BELONG TO THE ELDERS.

i'd probably be disfellowshipped as a division causing, teaching, apostate, faster than you can say "maher-shalal-hash-baz" (isaiah 8:1), should it be found out that i was posting here and did not repent of the things i've said and stop participating in this forum.

20571pnt428571 smacks of troll but ultimately I think he's just pioneering on here. Think about it- warm, cosy house, as many brews as he wants, never has to knock on another door again but look at the hours he's getting in.
He knows full well he's not convincing anybody. But we humour him all the same. Because we're not bigots who shun people who disagree with us.

My sister is the only one in our family who's still a Witness. She's 32 and married to a Servant. Nice guy, never had any problems with him. She is nearly four months pregnant, due in November.
My mum (Dansk's wife) is considered an apostate. I left because I'm a lesbian. The thing is, my sister has regular contact with my mum. They ring each other, go for lunch, etc. My sister sent my mum a scan picture of the baby. When the baby comes, I'm sure that will bring them even closer. The thing is, how come she won't talk to me unless she has to, when the 'sin' of being gay is nowhere near as serious, according to Witnesses, as apostasy? My mum would probably spit on a Kingdom Hall if she could, whereas I have nothing against the Witnesses, I just see them as sad, misguided drones.
What's the latest from the society on shunning family members?? Not been to a meeting in five years.

I'm not too bad thanks, yourself? I'd love to say I have loads to report but I really don't. The last year has been full of a lot of temporary stuff but nothing either lasting or interesting! Recently checked in and am glad to see a lot of the same faces, plus the odd newbie. :)

I never heard this before now, and I considered myself pretty au fait with Awake articles (we weren't allowed to read much else in our house)...
It made me so angry. The WT thinks you can use de-escalation techniques with a rapist? Dream on. Only people who have ever been sexually assaulted will know that there is an intrinsic 'fight or flight' instinct that nobody can make judgements regarding. Some scream, and fight, and defned themselves. Some may realise that keeping quiet until the horrific ordeal is over is the only way to survive.
Either way, rapists are lower than human beings. They are usually male, though, so of course the GB will give them special dispensation.
