The partakers will partake this year, I think. They may even run out of wine.

Totally Blown Away
by TrailBlazer04 inhi all.... i started reading and posting here some years ago, as my stepchildren were being raised jw's by their mother, and at one time in my misguided life i had studied w/the jw's.. anyway, time went by and we had less and less contact with the kids...until a couple of weeks ago.
my stepdaughter j swung by the house and we noticed something very different about her.
she was lively, talkative, fun!

I am so happy for you. I too am so happy to hear when children raised in JW households leave to have a true, happy, educated, happy life, honest to their heart!

Who lets it be known that they were once a JW?
by lfcviking ini am curious, for those of us here who have left the jw org, who actually lets it be known to people that they were once a practicing jw.. for me, this is something i tend to keep quiet because it is something i'm not particularly proud of.
anyone else feel the same way?.

I didn't want to for quite awhile. However, I do now. I have come to feel it is a true story that must be told. I have learned that certainly people for the most part don't hate JWs,,they just think it is weird or bothersome when JWs knock at the door.

$$$ How much do Bethelites get paid - Does it go up with inflation? $$$
by Witness 007 ini remember my bethel friends trying to save every dollar...waiting for his "pay day" so we could go to the movies...but i don't remember how much it was per month, and how do you cope?
what do missionaries and specials get?
-
Gayle
In the early 70s, Bethelites got $14/month & a small handfull of subway tokens.
My "Social Security Statement" shows my annual 'earnings' (value of boarding, meals, $14/month & tokens) was: 1970 - $837, 1971 $901, 1972 $968 and 1973 - $953. (Wish I could figure how to 'copy' that part on that statement here).

Still think the Society is not running out of cash? ...
by sir82 in...then check this out!.
(of course the society has $billions in real estate, but many have speculated that they are low on cash for day-day operations).. unfortunately i don't have a working scanner, but here is a summary of & a few quotations from a boe letter dated march 1, 2008:.
"for an number of years, an arrangement has been available to congregations to place funds on deposit with the branch office.
-
Gayle
However, a recent analysis shows that only 10 percent of congregations in the United States are taking advantage of this provision."
I am surprised only 10% are doing this,,Are they concerned to put their money where there whole life is? May indicate some concern on behalf of R & F? I hope so.

I 'never' answer the door when JWs come a knockin' but . . .
by Gayle ini 'never' answer the door when jws (2 men) come to the door, well, yesterday i did,,and i couldn't help it.
i dominated the conversation,,wouldn't let them talk much,,stayed on the blood issue for the most part, about 6/7 min., they excused themselves & left.
they were kind of like deer facing headlights of a speeding car.

I am not known in this area by JWs & left a couple decades ago.

How did you build a new life outside of the JWs?
by Sirona in"if you leave jehovah's organisation, where will you go?".
no doubt many of us have been asked that question.
so where did you "go" when you left the jws?
-
Gayle
1. How did you build up a new social structure after leaving the JW religion? First, I think one has to build him/her self up. Read, read, read. This gives you time and resource to find/build your true self, personhood, basic values. I have siblings and a few xJWs friends that too have successfully built a life outside of JW world. We were very busy raising kids, which for me was alot of my social world for a long while. I was quite dedicated to having my 5 children have a normal childhood, schooling, sports, extracurricular with goals/plans for college (4 have completed w/the 5th about a year to go yet). I have a handful of friends at work that we are there for each other, supportive with humor.
2. Have you made fulfilling friendships and where did you find those friends? I was a single mom for many years. The kids got grown, so I stretched myself out to a 'singles' dance and met my husband to be. Married 3 yrs now. He is a retired school teacher of 33 yrs. and interested in everything and finds my 'past' very intriguing and is very supportive and I have linked up with many of his family & longtime friends. I have recently started going to a xJW meetup group now. It is only once a month and I have decided to be a self-appointed librarian of xJWs (having many books to loan for free for the month).
3. Do you have a spirituality now and if so, how do you compare it with the JW religion? I am spiritual, Christian, but non-doctrinal,don't care if God is a trinity or not, don't believe in hellfire (to me, hellfire just not a thing of a loving God) just love, joy & peace parts. I am no longer limited in the JW world, I can enjoy, like and love many more people.
4. What is the best advice you can think of to give to someone who has recently left the JWs - in terms of how to rebuild their life? One day at a time,, the better life happens.

In '69-'71 I cleaned the Bethel Library in the 124 building on the eighth floor. Off of the library were 5 offices (where Sydlik, Ciro Aulicino, Karl Adams, and Harry Peloyan, and Ann Glass worked and another couple fellows but can't remember their names right now) and outside of the library around a hallway was where Karl Adams (editor of the Awake) worked. The other library was across the street at the newer 107 building on the third floor. Both libraries were available to Bethelites, especially utilized by new Bethelites using references for the 6 mo. 'Primary' class. No other people to my knowledge were able to utilize them.
