I do remember when I was a housekeeper at Bethel, in one Bethel boys room was a picture, somewhat psychedelic looking. They put a note at the bottom, "Monday Mourning." There was humor at times at Bethel, until the "Home Servant" would make them take it down.

As A Former JW, Do You Feel You Should "Apologize" For Past Actions?
by minimus indo you believe that you should now apologize for whatever actions you made when you were a witness?.
do you think that if you were an elder that you should contact those that might've felt oppressed by you and your "theocratic" actions?.
if you were a zealous preacher, do you now feel you should go back to your former bible students and tell them the error of your ways?.

I went back to my mom's family and in a sizable group setting I apologized for our not visiting with them during the years we were Jehovah's Witnesses. Mom had died many years prior due to cancer but I assured them if she had lived long enough that she would have apologized to them. I felt them appreciate my words.

Last night at "Worlds Apart"
by klydia inhi everyone, i met a bunch of people from the 'ex-jw meetup' at the screening of world's apart last night.
i just wanted to say again how amazing it was to see you there and to talk to you after the movie.
i've been "disfellowshipped" for 10 years, but i don't think i've ever really talked to any ex-jw's in depth like that.

What a wonderful way to have a Meetup! I am going to recommend for the Phoenix area of xJWs to do a meetup if it comes to Phoenix. Thanks.

It's part of the mind-controlling process, puts your brain to 'twilight zone' so they can say anything over and over again & it gets stuck eventually.

Will Women Eventually Start Being Used As Servants?
by White Dove inas the men in the congregations suffer from burnout and quit helping out as ms and elders, do you think the situation of shrinkage will become so desperate that the wts will be forced to start using women in positions of authority?
they have a huge commodity that they are refusing to use.
that makes no sense at all.

I remember in the mid-70s working in service with an elderly sister, she was talking with so much resentment even then about Rutherford stating that women were just "a bag of bones and a hank of hair" and she added & here we do all the work.

Are we hyper-sensitised to JW changes? Do we exaggerate their importance?
by yadda yadda 2 insometimes i think we lose all perspective at times on here.
that we are just as prone to over-magnifying any meaning behind relatively minor changes like this in the organisation in the same way jw's are prone to over exaggerate every bit of bad news in the world to mean armageddon is near.. when you sit down in the cold light of day, this change to the bookstudy arrangement for example, is it really that much a big deal?
i strongly doubt it really, despite initial reactions (including my own).

I compare to the USSR. They were boastful, arrogant against the world. The USSR at one time was extremely self-important, totalitarian, no free expression, sending any of their people to Siberia if criticized the USSR government. The people had to sacrifice 'all' to build and support that government. When we heard they really didn't have much food in comparison, low-grade homes, etc. we shook our heads at the cost of their people. We gasped how some were running for their lives, leaving their families behind, their names being defamed for their flight for freedom. When word was coming out that their government was crumbling from within and that more and more their people were getting disgruntled, didn't our expectations grow that the USSR was reaping finally what it had been sowing. I never expected I would see the 'wall' in Berlin go down! I was thrilled for their people. My heart danced with them at the torndown 'wall.' Many things parallel the WTS. The crumbling from within is happening there, more of their people are disgruntled. Former members are fleeing for their freedom, often their names are being defamed. The WTS' little changes increase our hope, perhaps not for total disintegration, but that their leaders (GB) are having to answer to their people, and growing numbers are not satisfied, they (their elders, etc.) are growing tired. Their youth are leaving (running) more and more as they see no hope there anymore. I've learned in my life, good things happen in little bits and I embrace them.

What was the amount of the 07 pedo settlement
by boyzone ini can't find it.
how much did the wt have to pay in the end?.
thanks.
-
Gayle
The Catholic church stated (openly) recently that the Church paid $2 billion on 5,000 lawsuits, so that averages $400,000/each. With that one WTS settlement for the 16 victims and with that 'formula' the amount would possibly have come to $6.4 million.

Venting about new BS arrangement
by Nosferatu inwhen i was a teenager (especially when i wanted out of the org) i made up excuses to miss the meetings.
i always made sure i brought home lots of notebooks, textbooks, etc so it looked like i had a load of homework to do on meeting nights.
i sat on my bed doing my homework (or writing in my journal) just to get out of another night at the meeting (this didn't work on sunday).

I went head to head with my family and I lost
by noontide injust got done with a 3 hr.
argument with my family.
the essence of the conversation was that since im not going to the meetings, aka: in the organization, im not a good person.

I am sorry for your circumstance with your family. So difficult!
I am wondering how a reverse psychology would work:
(State) It's wonderful!:
The organization doesn't want to be burdensome any more, so soon to have meetings just 2x/wk now instead instead of 3/wk. That's great! The organization didn't use to allow alternative service choice to the brothers, now do (allows personal conscience). The organization didn't use to allow vaccinations at one time, now do (allows personal conscience). The organization didn't use to allow organ transplants, now do (allows personal conscience). The organization didn't use to allow blood fractions, now do (allows personal conscience). The organization now allows JWs in Bulgaria to take blood transfusions without even announcing that "they are no longer Jehovah's Witnesses." (State) Recently the organization stated there will be future "new light" that the brothers may have to adapt to. Exciting, makes me wonder, what will change next?!
