  1973 District Convention

  i spent the weekend with some relatives.

  they have an fairly extensive library of jw material going back 50 years in their spare bedroom.

  i was looking at a few items when i found a program for the divine victory convention held in winnipeg, manitoba in 1973. the convention lasted 5 days.

  Yeah remember that one and all the shite summer conventions as well , I was 7 then, and they were all held at the Twickenham rugby stadium, a real shit hole then but now a state of the art arena.I always used to remember the smell of the bacon baps being made and the stench of the awful stewed coffee which was historically bad, and the huge catering set up with all those containers that were hooked up to those huge generators. Yes it either pissed down or you got cherry red sun burn, but sometimes looking back there were some good memories believe it or not

  I think David Sidbury was the last C/O prior to my leaving circa 1993+ although I never saw him my wife used to swoon on about how great a speaker he was,

  I think the biggest little shite of them all was M Purbrick who questioned whether I was good enough to marry my so called spiritually strong wife, had the classic small man syndrome, and difficult with the body of elders so my old man used to say,

  M Hogdson appeared very keen to get inactive ones off the cong records

  yes I remember the Presslands who were a big JW family and P Pressland thought his shit did not stink, also Peter Ellis (probably dead now ) used to give a lot of talks at the Twickenham D/A fine speaker..

  Green Urban Legend

  the thread on the wt going into the red, and the remark on "cheap paperback bibles" made me think of the old green nwt.. there was a lot of buzz back then about why it was green.

  i heard these from various cos -.

  a) it was green to prove that it was not from christendom.

  mmm.. interesting , not urban myths though just the wts being slightly different, not harmful to have green bibles , although they were crap quality if I remember.

  How Dysfunctional A Witness Were You?

  reading posters' comments help me to see that since leaving "the organization", many have gotten emotionally better.

  of course, you don't have to be a witness to have dysfunction but feeling the pressure of always being told that we are inferior, that we're not doing enough, can get to the best of us!

  looking back, how dysfunctional were you??

  Apostates do you still read Watchtower literature? And if so Why do you?

  i was just wondering how many ex-jws still read wt literature and if so why.

  i have noticed alot of posters here know what the lastest wt or awake magazines are talking about and i was just wondering why do you bother to read that stuff since you left the wt?

  The first time i came out was when the Proclaimers book came out and after that refused to read any of their shite, but curiosity overcame me and I wanted to read the odd W//T study article, and about 3/4 times I have contacted the Branch Office for a local dub to post a W/T through my letterbox this request was never met, for obvious reasons, but now i just read the snippets of new Jw stuff here, I would not read anything now from the WTS if you paid me
