just wondering on how it is possible to get a scriptual divorce as my dad needs to get one but as much research done i can't see how he can get one but he says he has spoken to some elders and that they have said it can be granted but on what grounds?.

i know if you have committed adultery and extreme cases disertion but other that these is there any way else.. you see my mum basically up and left my dad and they have reconciled once but now its definately over and have a legal divorce, so would disertion come under this catorgory?

also my mum has battled mental illness(mainly major depression) for as long as i can remember can he do it on the grounds of mental capacity?.

The only scriptural ground is adultery. Desertion cannot be used to obtain a scriptural divorce in the org. The only exception that I know of would be if the ex totally disappeared and was declared legally dead at some point. Then, in that extreme case, he could sign a statement acknowledging responsibility for whatever may happen and the elders would recognize him as scripturally free to remarry.

looking back its amazing how many alcoholics i knew in the "borg"...................... there are 3 elders in my old hall alone........ that are full blown alcoholics...................... when, have you ever heard of someone.......anyone.......let alone and elder............ getting "dfed" for drinking too much?.

when i was at bethel........you wouldn't believe how much drinking was done there!.

there are stories of the old days ( russell & the judge)..where they would find guys passed out in front of the 124 building on sunday mornings........no big deal, just dust them off.............. and bring in.

I concur. Back when i was at bethel in the eighties, the liquor flowed pretty freely, especially at the gilead grad. dinners and after monday evening wt study. if you were 21, it was like having a free pass to drink as much as you want, as long you were at morning worship the next day.

it's frowned upon to save, earn, and invest for retirement(greed), but the org always has their hand out for money and even has a charitable giving office so they get your stocks, bonds, and real estate when you dy.

Same old story. If this had been an NSA of a republican prez it would not have taken a full year to investigate and litigate. the mainstream media would have made it the never ending lead off on their evening newscasts, a front page story, and made it a part of every interview with any republican, and would have probably demanded hearings to see if the president or any of his officials knew. instead, it is a total nonstory and he gets by with hand slap, mission accomplished though I am sure. More sleaze from the Clinton administration. still obsessed with his legacy or lack thereof. we could not have any evidence that casts a negative shadow on his highness and the fact that he might have missed capturing bin laden, now could we?

just watched it about an hour ago.

i know that it's old news that he got involved with the organization while his career was basically in a free fall, but now that he is enjoying some success again, i am very surprised that he is still claiming to even be a jw.
