Generally, I am against the death penalty, just like I am against abortion--both involve humans taking other human life. I might make one exception, though, for serious crimes against small children, such as rape and/or murder.

The Death Penalty? What do you think?
by Country Girl ini, as most persons, think a sexual assault of a child is a very horrible thing.
like most parents, i would want to put the person to death that assaulted my child in that way, but is that just?
i'm two ways about it: i feel for the child, and the child's family; but at the same time i am wondering if it is deserving of death?

is anyone planning a garden this year?
by chickpea ini have swung with the pendulum on this endeavour over the years.... my best year ever i had 32 different food "crops" but as more kids arrived and the deer population encoached on "my" encroachment, i let it disappear from the " to do " list".
this year, i am determined to get back at it full force...... with modifications to accomodate my "older" knees and the still encroaching deer, using the "square foot gardening" approach as well as container gardening on the deck..... anyone here have experience with either?.
having just finished a nutrition course and dealing with the rising costs of fresh food ( that is not over salted or corn syrup sweetened), i really feel an urgency to try to supplement what is available .

I have a garden every year. Trying something new this year though--planting tomato plants in containers as opposed to directly in the ground. Have five so far. The better boy variety. Used a 50/50 mix of potting soil and manure as my base, on top of 1" of drainage rock at the bottom of the containers. Already have blooms on two of them.
Also have some squash planted(yellow crookneck) and a couple of pepper plants.

Earthquake in Indiana?
by mrsjones5 ini was dozing in bed this morning when an earthquake hit a few minutes shy of 6am.
i thought i was back in california .
it was a 5.4 quake centered somewhere in illinois.. did anyone else feel it?.

Yep. We felt tremors here in N.E. Alabama, probably 300 miles from the epicenter. Knocked a picture off the wall in our laundry room.

Why didn't God use a army of angels to take down Goliath?
by Salivating Dog inwhy did god use one shepherd armed only with a slingshot to take down the powerful giant?.
what kind of message was he trying to send by doing that?.

Obama's Comments on 'Small Town' Voters- Sadly, he nailed it
by nvrgnbk incall him an elitist if you will, but he simply voiced an honest observation.
in rural pa, many people tend to vote based on the fear that the dems will force them to have abortions, confiscate their hunting rifles, burn their bibles, and make interracial gay marriages mandatory for their children.
economic stimulus and improved educational opportunities be damned!.

He nailed it??? In other words, you are saying that 'small town america' people worship and possess guns out of "bitterness"?
I disagree. I think the majority of Americans worship, not because of bitterness, but because they sincerely think they are paying homage to the Creator. Also, I think that most Americans that own guns, such as myself and others, do so because we want to. We enjoy hunting and shooting. It has nothing to do with bitterness. This was a major gaffe by Obama and will cost him in the general election in November.

Adam and Eve were NEVER perfect.
by gaiagirl injw's frequently say that the first human couple were "perfect" and would have lived forever until they gave up perfection by their disobedience.. however, closer reading of the genesis account shows that they were never perfect, instead, they were designed to grow old and die, just like the rest of the animals.
jehovah has adam name all the animals, but finds that none of the animals is suitable as a companion (wonder how this was determined)?.
jehovah clones a companion for adam, and tells them to not eat the fruit of a certain tree, or they will die "in that very day".

So you are saying God created them knowing full well that they would eventually die? By extension, then, what are you implying about God and his intelligent creation?

California JWs -- Are they different than most JWs?
by B_Deserter ini've heard stories from people multiple times about their trips to california and how they were surprised to find out how lax the witlesses out there were concerning rules, behavior.
just wondering if anyone can confirm or deny that.
-
owenfieldreams
Based on my experience, a good many of them are. California is a very liberal state, and it's reflected in the culture out there, even to a degree with the jws. Couple that with the affluence that exists there, and I think that explains it.

Sounds like the marching orders have come down from Jaracz. Look for a major crackdown and purging of everyone at hq in NY.

Jesus never existed!
by Layla33 indisclaimer: i am writing this topic to give another side to the debate on jesus christ.
i think it would interesting to hear the claims that suggest that he never truly existed.
not an attack, just thought it would be an interesting topic to read the research that challenges it.. was jesus of nazareth a real historical person?

Why did you choose to make a 'devil's advocate' argument against Jesus? Why not Mohammed? Just curious....
