You certainly have the right to picket, but I doubt you will accomplish much by doing it. What you propose to say on your picket sign is already pretty well known in most areas. But, hey, if that's what you want to do and you get some inner satisfaction from doing it, then by all means go for it! Personally, I wouldn't waste my valuable time and resources on such a thing...

Interesting stuff.
Dont mean to be a contrarian, but I simply do not see any substantive changes being made in policy within the org any time soon. Oh, they will continue to cut costs through liquidations, layoffs, etc..but that will be it, and the faction on the GB led by Ted Jaracz will continue to hold sway over everything. Ted has a choke hold on the levers of power right now and I really think we have more of a chance of seeing the mullahs in Iran thrown out of power before we see him successfully challenged by anyone, including Jack Barr. Just my two cents based on 35+ yrs within the org and spending a year myself in Crooklyn.

10,000 Line Up For a Walmart Job
by sammielee24 in10,000 apply for a jobat one new wal-mart!
by judith moriarty.
1-11-8 candidates having raised tens of millions of dollars and traveling around the country in luxury buses or private jets, arguing over who has the most 'experience' - who is a mormon (therefore disqualified) - who's not a 'true republican' (ron paul) who's picking on hillary (edwards) - who can grab the evangelical vote - who is totally ignored (kucinich) - who claims 911 makes him the protector of us all etc, (rooty)...meanwhile, the real story of what is happening in america - evictions, foreclosures, unemployment - is being totally ignored.

Walmart pays what the market dictates. I can remember 25 yrs ago applying for a job at wmt, and they wanted to start me out at 3.15/hr. Hello? They start people out now much, much more than that, even when you index it to inflation. Do they pay 25.00/hr for manual labor like a company that's losing money left and right like Ford, GM, or Chrysler? No, because Wmt understands that there primary responsibility is not to provide employment, but to provide a profit for individual shareholders. The fact that they provide jobs in the process of that is a side benefit. If you dont like that, then you are against capitalism and for socialism.

I assure you, starting wages at wmt in the Atlanta metro area are $9/hr+...i have relatives that work there. Even though, if they were 8.65 as you state, that's much more than the federal minimum wage. And again, we are talking entry level wages--if YOU owned a business, i challenge you to tell me honestly that you would pay beginning employees with no valuable experience more than that...if you did, you would not be in business very long, my friend. Minimum wage is a transitory area--very, very few people stay stagnant at that scale, yet you and others seem to view the american people through a 'soup-line' mentality as if we are a bunch of people living on the street with no opportunity to better ourselves... I started out at minimum wage, and had to live on it for a short period of time. whats wrong with that? it taught me a lot of valuable lessons that I have carried with me my entire working life. It worked for me and others--and it will continue to work....

let me rephrase that--part of Atlanta is in DeKalb county....
And this is really nothing new. Anytime Walmart expands in the ever-expanding Atlanta market, this is the norm when they open a new store. Unemployment in the Atlanta metro area is below 3% and jobs are plentiful.

Good for Walmart! And by the way, anyone that goes to work for Walmart has the opportunity, if they choose to apply themselves and pursue it, to move up, advance, and make much more than the federal minimum wage! A far cry from employers like Ford, GM, Chrysler, The US Postal Service, UPS, other companies that are shrinking and not expanding like Walmart....

Any thoughts about increasing Minimum Wage?
by journey-on insome people want to up the minimum wage to $10 - $12 per hour!
what are your thoughts about this?.
-
owenfieldreams
Didn't we just raise the minimum wage in this country(US)? In fact, George W Bush is the one that signed it into law. I thought it went from $5.15 to $6, and is scheduled to go up again next year to over $7/hr?? This illustrates my whole point--even though we just raised it, the same people are trying to get it raised again.

If you go back, dont do it out of guilt. Do it because it's sincerely the thing that you WANT to do.
