Wonder if they will make this retroactive. What about current elders that sent their kids to college in the past? Do they still have freedom of speech to counsel the r/f on the subject? My guess is they won't....they would lose way too many elders, and the way they are bleeding 'brothers willing to reach out' they really cannot afford to remove/delete that many men in the cong.

No school for you: confirmation of CO outline on education
by raindog ini just spoke with my dad after he returned from an elders meeting.
the co did say that elders would have to step down from their positions if they supported their child getting an education.
the reasoning behind this is that an elder is encouraging their children to attend college, they would not be able to counsel the rank and file on the issue.

First, I dont think we need to be attacking JWs, per se--rank and file, I mean.....the legal organization is what should be criticized, along with its governing body. The constant changing of the goal posts, doctrinally speaking, has always been an issue to me. They call it 'new light', but the fact is, according to them, everything they teach as the FDS is subject to change at a moment's notice, thus how can a reasonable person put any confidence in knowing that anything they put in print or teach from the platform is rock solid and not going to change five years down the road?

I cannot imagine this being an issue today, but years ago this was something that was commonplace. I can actually remember when I was a kid the local elders actually making an advance announcement from the platform that Bro. and Sister "circuit overseer" could not eat spinach, artichokes, etc. etc....either due to allergies or just simply disliking it.

i have a hard time believing this elder was df'ed for simply defending his daughter. I've known of similar situations where elders/ms's did the same thing and it was never an issue. There were probably other factors involved of which you are not aware...

Who to Send a Disassociation Letter To?

Contrary to urban myth on this board, you do NOT have to send it to the PO(US congs only) You can SEND it to any appointed elder in the cong, However, I would recommend doing 'return receipt'--hence, you will receive proof that they received it from the US post office. Simply address it to the Body of Elders, and they will have to recognize it, as long as you unequivocally give your name and ask that it be removed from their membership rolls. After that, they will simply announce that you are "no longer one of jehovahs witnesses'.

I doubt it. According to the definitions of the org, paragliding would probably fall under the same category as parachuting, bungee jumping, or any other sport where THEY deem life endangerment or risk....

Thanks for the notes, Metaspy. Unfortunately, I am probably going to have to attend(due to circumstances that I would rather not go into), but its good to have the cliff notes version in advance. It's absolutely amazing how, in 35 yrs with contact in this org, their message at the dc's never changes--trash higher education/learning beyond high school and anyone who chooses to it, glorify a pauper lifestyle, ridicule/condemn virtually all entertainment, and continue to demonize the internet(while the legal corporations that the org uses have and maintain websites--that especially has always irked me)....Looks like I'll be getting in some good nap time next month...
