after i was df and seriously questioning my faith in the org ( won't call it the truth) i gave a copy of coc to an elder i have known since i was a young man.
he read it found it disturbing and said that he didn't realize problems that he found at his level of involvement went so high.
i then gave him a copy of "in search of christian freedom" he never read it said that he didn't want to question his faith in the brothers.
I would imagine that many would have been very harsh on any brother that raised questions that challenged their faith in the Org
Yes it seems you can question God for something but questioning the Watchtower is not tolerated.
So indeed by having this sort of approach is the Watchtower placing itself above God?
All the time we were active JW's have we been worshipping the Watchtower and not God but not aware of it?

at age 18, i was a regular pioneer.
at 20, a ministerial servant.
at 24 an elder.

Yes i found it fairly easily because i saw & experienced the end product of living a life as a JW. Which was negative emotions & feelings of despair and sometimes depression brought about by a lengthy programme of burdensome rules, regulations & duties. At the end of all this it just felt like i'd been set free! So yes for me it was sort of opposite of the scripture at John 8:32; 'You will know the truth and the truth will set you free'

quick question - how many of you here were able to fill the social and festive void left after becoming a witness?
by this, i mean gatherings and celebrations you had previously with non-witness family and friends.. was it difficult to fill the social void after being told not to have bad associations with those who aren't jw's?.
i spoke to one non-witness relative and they said that since the family became jws, no one ever gets together anymore.
No. I really missed Christmas & new year celebrations when i became a JW but tried to kid myself that i didn't. Instead i just tried to see the truth about the matter - about it being a pagan event, not linked to jesus's birthday, the whole commercial greediness about it all etc etc. But hey WHO CARES! Christmas is a time of the year you can get together with your family, enjoy present giving, enjoy some well earned over indulgence and just generally getting pi**ed out of your face & have a good time. So

i imagine part of the draw of the jws is the fact that they claim to have all the answers and the ultimate truth.
it's true they seen to on the outside provide many "answers" to many questions but now that i know these answers aren't the absolute truth that i once thought they were my mind is now open to a whole new world of ideas and theories and explanations.
assuming that logically there is only one absolute truth in the universe (that in itself is a huge assumption but bare with me) then it is easy to get tied down and overwelmed by the shear volume of differing info and ideas available to mankind.

what was jehovah's purpose for them?
my mother used to say that they were used to prepare the earth for living, you know, like mulch and stuff.
I remember having this conversation with JW's loads of times and they are simply not sure what the purpose of Dinosaurs was as the Bible says very little about them. I think theres only 1 reference to large animals of this kind and thats somewhere in the book of Genesis where it makes a reference to 'Great Sea Monsters'-possibly Dinosaurs.

what i can recall are two young jws at the congo who had strict elder fathers and ended up suffering severe depression due to the many restrictions in their lives.
growing up as a jw in a repressive and unloving environment is not easy.

I can recall many of the JW Bro's & Sisys having this problem, it is definetely not uncommon in the Org.

looking back and knowing it is not gods organization raises.
a few questions about the conventions and assemblies.. what was the real motivation behind the conventions?did the watchtower hold conventions to show the world god has a united people?.
Well it could be to give something for the dubs to look forward to during the year because when you take away their Christmas, birthdays & other celebratory things you enjoy i suppose you have to replace it with something else. The Watchtower probably realises this and hence considers it as a suitable substitution.
at dcs, sads, or cas, do they know beforehand how many baptismal candidates there will be?
i recall on another thread where the brother gving the baptism talk ask them to stand and no one stood up.
could anyone then go and sit in the front row and go through with baptism without having to answer the questions or even have studied?.
