Hi, I'm new
by Diva inhi, this is my first post but ive been lurking around this discussion board for some time now.
my husband (the borg) occasionally posts and i had the pleasure of meeting some great people at the apostofest in covent garden, london last year arranged by bestie and sweetpea , hi to you both and hi to freetothink, mr majestic and everyone that was there hope youre all ok.. my story in a nutshell: raised a jw from birth, my whole family, expect one brother and sister (disfellowshipped) are still jws - basically i was raised in a family who were considered one of the pillars of the congregation, we all pioneered and did the whole witness thing, in fact one of my sisters is a missionary.
my whole jw world crumbled when i learnt about the jw/un connection and from that moment on there was no turning back.

What's the worst thing the JW religion has done to you?
by lfcviking inonce having been a member of the jw religion and now that you have left, what is the worst thing that you realise it has done to you?
i.e has it left you mentally scarred?
has it left you with serious family trouble?

Once having been a member of the JW religion and now that you have left, what is the worst thing that you realise it has done to you? I.e has it left you mentally scarred? Has it left you with serious family trouble? Has it cost you many precious years of your life?
Thoughts and experiences please....

3 REASONS TO BE A JW
by thebigdebate ini have a theory on why people become jw's.
there are 3 different reasons:.
1: you were born into a family of jw's.

Clothing in the New Order
by donny inthe society teaches that once the new order is up and running, we will achieve perfection as adam and eve once were.
if thats the case, why do they portray folks in the new order as fully clothed?
i thought clothing was the result of sin, so once sin is eliminated, should not clothing be also?

Now that would be funny if the WTBTS decided to have everybody nude in their books and Watchtower magazines. I could picture a few eyebrows being raised!

1: You were born into a family of JW's
Agree
2: You had a "life crisis" "Example - Quiting drugs or drinking - Death of loved one - Divorce - Depression"
Possibly, some people may seek comfort and refuge in a religious organisation after a life changing event.
3: You are NUTS - "Dont fit in with normal people"
I'm not sure about the 'NUTS' description you've given, but from my own personal experience, some people in the KH seemed like complete social misfits and would not be able to fit into a 'normal' society such as the real world.
I think there are other reasons why people become JWs, such as you have simply been conned by them into believing the world will be a paradise one day, and to be a part of that you must join up.
Or you might be a control freak bully and you want to boss people around, and so joining a religion gives you the perfect opportunity to do so.
Or you might just have nothing else better to do with your life?!?...

What's your favourite country you've visited?
by lfcviking inmine is australia.
the's so much to do there, the climate is so warm, the wildlife there is so vast & interesting, you can scuba dive the great barrier reef, there's so many cool beaches and overall it seems quite civilised.
i'd love to go back there again for another jolliday.. what's yours?.

Well it's interesting that so many of you like England, i used to live there, but didn't like it that much. Maybe it was because i lived in cities like Liverpool, Grimsby and Huddersfield which aren't really that pretty, the nicer places are in the south of England really.
Norway is a nice country too, buts it's bloody expensive up here!

After all these years.........POOF! The desire is gone
by journey-on inafter all these years, i finally experienced this weird deep sense of calm, peaceful resignation.
i realized after desperately wanting my jw sister and the other witness family members to see the real "truth" about the organization that now i dont want to change them anymore.
i have absolutely no desire to pontificate on the absurdity of believing the doctrines and directives of the watchtower society.

I realized then and there that any changes coming from the organization will simply be accepted as having come from Jehovah through his faithful and discreet slave and will never be questioned....never, ever.
While the JW dubs are stuck in a mindset like this, there is not much you can do. It is clearly evedent that they have surrendered thier own thinking faculties and handed them over to the WTBTS.
This is why the WTBTS condemn things such as 'independant thinking' and secular education. These things only enhance and strengthen your own intelligence & powers of perception and hence you will then become more difficult to keep in control.

Was There Any WT. Teaching That You Never Agreed With From The Start?
by minimus indid you accept everything the "slave" said?
-
lfcviking
One thing that puzzled me from the start, is the policy they have on dating. They say 'You should only date with a view to marriage'. How can you possibly know that you are going to marry someone when you've only just started dating them?
Naaa man.
