Baptism question.....
by lavendar inwhen a person gets close to being baptized, i understand he/she must go before the elders to answer some questions?
what exactly do the elders ask the person??.
lavendar .

They will also ask if you are HIV or have AIDS. They don't let people with those things get baptized in the same water as healthy people.
Well i was baptised in July 1999 and they didn't ask me those qusetions 'Blondie'. So is that a relatively new development? Or were they questions you got asked by your over particular Congregation Elders when you was baptised?

Society unsure about Adam's Sexual Orientation
by Amazing inyes, folks, the all-wise, all-knowing, all-seeing watchtower society peers into and explores all possibilities of thought and logic.
yes, right back to our beginnings they look at how adam needed to determine who would serve as his companion ... and where did he search?.
"before god created anything new, a woman, god left the man free to determine whether there was a suitable companion for him among all the lower animals.

SOON! SOON! How SOON is SOON?
by Little Bo Peep inin reading over drew sagan's post this am, we were discussing how often the wt says soon.
it is really brought to the fore when you read his post.
it's now been over 92 years since their 1914 date.

I think most of Revelation (I say most because there are numerous things in question as to how they would be fulfilled) has been fulfilled, centuries ago, not for the future.
Just curious 'Little Bo Peep' what things are you refering to when you say most of the Revelation prophecies have already been fullfilled?

Have you heard: "Worldly people just live for the holidays"
by Gopher inwhile i was a jw, around this time of year i would often hear jw's saying that non-jw's live only for their holidays, because that's all they have to look forward to.
after all, they don't have the wonderful hope of living in paradise on earth forever under the loving direction of jehovah's organization !!
so, for those of you who are former jw's or never were jw's, what would you say about that idea (wordly people only live for holidays), and why do jw's really say that?.
-

To suggest that non JW's only have holidays to look forward to really does reflect thier ignorant & narrowminded way of thinking. It shows a complete lack of understanding about people & life outside of the Org.

The Sorrow and the Pity of the Watchtower: denial of DUE PROCESS
by Terry innounthe state, action, or principle of treating all persons equally in accordance with the law.
fairness is something familiar to even the smallest child.
being treated without bias is a hunger humanity has fought for in every society; some less successfully than in present day.. in america we are guaranteed fairness when dealing with the state or federal government due to the imbalance of relative power between the individual and the state.

Good analysis T.
I suppose the WT behaves like this to get exactly what it wants and thats total power and control. Aswell any 'murmurings' can be dealt with a lot easier if you are solo in your arguments/grievances with the WT.

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU HEARD IT ALL!!! THIS IS SICK!!!
by Lady Liberty inmy mother called me last night and shared with me something my dad just discovered in doing some research on the internet.
it is out of the book published by the wathchtower in 1966, entitled, "life everlasting in freedom of the sons of god".. my parents have the book, and listen to what was written about adam and bestiality.... page 45, para.
before god created anything new, a woman, god left the man free to determine whether there was a suitable companion for him among all the lower animals.

This reflects the WT societys way of thinking, yes they might have a few Sheep Shaggers on the board of the GB.

The evolution of my mind
by kwintestal inwhen i look back at the last 10 years of my life it's amazing the different changes that has taken place mentally.
10 years ago i was very much a jw, but struggling as a late teen, trying to balance my youthful desire to have a good time with my desire to please god.
it was a tough battle, sometimes god won, other times he didn't, but when it was all said and done i thought god and i were cool with each other.. then i became a husband and a father, trying to keep up with the extra responsibilities that were upon me.

The pastor said, "If you believe the bible, then you believe all of it. If you don't believe one thing in the bible, then the whole thing can't be true."
I don't understand why religious authorative figures try to coerce people into an ultimatum with thier beliefs. Its just like the JW's they do the same thing also. What is it about organised religion? Why do they insist on being confrontational and dogmatic with thier approach all the time?

The Bible vs the Koran
by sinis ini was thinking how much the bible would sound like the koran if you sub'd jehovers name for allah.
almost the same style, exploits, wars, etc.
funny how both books have doomsday prophecies, saviors (jesus and muhammed).

In the end they are both not worth the paper they are written on
Even though most people on this site are ex JW's, some may still hold the bible in high esteem
