  Marking 7 Years out of the Watchtower

  boy oh boy where to start?

  lots of changes over the last seven years.

  this week i had been reflecting on just how drastically my life has changed for the better since loosening the grip of the watchtower society.. in brief, my life seven years ago this month looked liked this; my family was very unhappy after nearly a decade of serving the "happy god" of the watchtower and being part of the "happiest people on earth".

  Elder Called...

  after sending in my da letter the elder that i genuinely like called me this morning.

  i instructed in my letter that if they decided to talk to me they would be limited to only the bible.. i need some thoughts.. i want to go in prepared with points of discrepancy that i can point to directly in the bible...its sad becaus i love the friends its the culti-ness i cant deal with.

  Be careful! I let myself get persuaded into returning to the meetings in 1998. When I finally left in 2006, I refused to have more than a 5 minute discussion with an elder. Since I worked full time, was a college student, caring for a very young hyperactive nephew, I used my situation as an excuse for missing meetings and not being able to have long discussions with elders.

  When I left the second time, I knew I needed a permanent vacation from WTS teachings.

  A JW Student turned up in my Psychology Class yesterday!

  i am a psychology teacher and yesterday a jw turned up in one of my groups.

  this girl has a strong jw family (dad elder - mother mummy elder etc)!

  i was friends with this girls sisters prior to fading!.

  Active witnesses have disfellowshipped friends on Facebook

  i have noticed at least two active witnesses who have disfellowshipped friends on their facebook account.

  it's certainly a. middle finger to the governing body who say that we should not even say hello to such a person.. each facebook friend has to be "approved" so what does this say about the attitudes of the rank and file?.

  i was raised one of jw.

  before i was born my dad joined when two jws came to our house around the same time my grandpa (my dad's dad) died.

  i remember my mom telling me that my dad took this very hard.

  I began studying at age 20. I no longer attended the church of my youth and did not know the bible. Like snowbird, I was impressionable and the JWs seemed to know the bible well. The kool-aid tasted good.

  Did you Exit the Witnesses Gradually - Or Exit Suddenly - Your Reasons ?

  i thought it would be good to discuss it to understand what caused some of us to exit suddenly, or some to exit gradually .. myself , i had been in 44 years , had mentally had doubts for years before exiting - but injustices by the elders and my doubts about the " generation " doctrine led me to exit suddenly one night before a meeting.

  the elders pissed me off , i went to my seat, picked my books up and walked out - never going back.

  so what is your story and reasons ?

  In late 1990's I faded for almost a year but was guilted into returning to the meetings. I witnessed a lot of hypocrisy and Pharisee-like behavior. I returned to college because of realizing some people were still suffering from poor financial decisions made in 1974 and 1975. I knew they were Pharisees but I still believed. In 2004, when my husband was suffering from depression and drinking heavily , I realized I could not call the elders because they would disfellowship him and worsen his depression, I stopped attending meetings regularly. He stopped drinking after rehab and counseling but I stopped attending meetings regularly. We changed halls in 2005 but my heart was no longer in it. I last attended a meeting in 2006 and was very irregular at that point. When I realized they changed their stance on the blood issue and joined the UN, the blinders fell off.

  The ONE 'sin' I NEVER heard of in all my time as a JW . . . . .

  i never heard of any sister having an abortion - doesn't mean it didn't happen, just that i never heard of one.. i've personally known child abusers, closet gays, drunks and thieves all within my time at just 2 congregations.

  i know one brother who hid the fact he had blood transfusions at a critical time.

  now i'm certainly not lumping in an abortion with acts of abuse or dishonesty, and for the record i don't consider it a 'sin' (whatever that is).

  Ask to speak with a social worker and a patient advocate. The hospital is supposed to provide a translator for your mom so she can understand what's happening with her health and the physician's plan of care. It is important a psychiatric evaluation take place ASAP. Usually, the closest family member is included in discussions regarding a patient's care, but your situation is different.

  Have the social worker explain exactly what that document means in regards to care for your mom and your resposibility as her child. Sounds like a possible ethics problem for the JW.
