If you really want to visit the church, then do it. This is a time of self discovery.

Pentecostals - your views?
by digderidoo ini have been considering attending a meeting at a local pentecostal church and wondered if anyone has any experience of them and would appreciate peoples views.. the only thing that is stopping me attending is the thought of it being another religion.
you know growing up be told 'false religion' is bad and all that.. yours paul.

simpathy card, read this............ gotta get this off my chest
by DaCheech inin our tri state area (ny/nj/pa) we have this tall black brother (i think lived in malawi up 'till 7 years ago).. every time he does a talk he spends 10 minutes with the lifesaving hand of jehovah, true life experience of his, and the bla bla bla of how he had to hide in forest.
and was a wisper away from getting his head cut off.. now this is tearjerking, but after hearing him say the same bla bla bla for the past 7 years............ my question is this?---> is someone allowed to play this sympathy card forever?.

Sadly, that brother is still suffering from that traumatic experience and the WTS is exploiting that awful experience.
He needs counseling but the WTS does not recommend "worldly" advisors.

American Class Structures. How Does That Work?
by bigmouth insave my soul made a comment in his current thread that interested me: .
"he said he had never met a black man of his class in his small town.
" - this was said to him by a white man.

Keep in mind the U.S. was once controlled by Britain. There were 13 British colonies. Our laws were beased on British laws and the society was based on British society. Slaves were at the bootom of the pile. The only way an African American can move the social structure is through education and hard work. By staying where one is, one never grows. One stagnates. That's dangerous. This is the weak link of American society.

I don't wish to say that not attending university=uneducated, but it sure limits one's ability to earn enough money to suuport oneself. Some people with a high school diploma or vocational training can do well for themselves. Others, like me, needed an university degree to train for a career. When I decided to return to school, a sister told me there will be no need for nurses in the new system. I told her there will be no need for a bunch of secretaries either.
If one earns a low salary, one lives in a certain neighborhood and children attend a so-so school and the cycle pepetuates itself. This was one of my problems with the WTS. Lots of undereducated people who are struggling financially are being told college is less than desirable. For those born into working class families, this is dangerous. The American economy is such that one needs every advantage. There are too many thirty and forty somethings who wish they either ayyended college or earned a college degree as a young person.

Crazy JW Urban Legends
by Wordly Andre inok its time to recount all your favorite crazy jw urban legends, ill start i remember this one was told to me after i had left the org, there was a newly married couple, they were good little dubs, evil mother in law lived with them, she did not want to convert or study, well time went on they had a baby, and mother in law was into some spiritual stuff, unknown to jw mommy and daddy.
anyway jw mommy wakes up one night to find little baby dub sitting inside the fish tank with most of the water taken out and there was some kind of evil spirit present, mommy dub yells out jemimas name and breaks free with baby dub.
evil mother in law is asked to leave their happy home.

Some Witnesses went to an Earth, Wind & Fire concert. The performers started chanting for their spirit muses. After no success, they asked all JWs to leave so the concert could proceed.

Just finished C of C last night
by dogisgod init took me a while to get thru this book and some of the print was really unclear to make out.
what struck me was the absolute mean spiritedness of the borg toward these brothers who gave their whole lives to the borg.
it also reinforces my experience that once they "make a decision" they will not be disuaded by biblical facts.

I don't know about about the American Standard Version but the JWs I knew had not difficulty using the King James Version.

New Paranoia -- Medical Forms are the newest tools of Satan
by fyerstar inmy sister (a well-meaning, sweet drone) sent me this email and although i don't get a chance to post often, i thought that this was just too ridiculous to keep to myself.
i don't have the heart to tell her that there are other people on the planet that have things they'd rather the medical community didn't do to save their lives.
scary people we used to hang around with.

This is definitely not true.
Doctors and nurses are instructed to ask for a copy of advanced directive and/or living will when a patient is admitted to a hospital.. Even if the patint changes his mind, all he has to do is ask for an attending physician (supervising doctor). The doctor will write a note directing all employees to honor your decision.

jgnat gave you excellent advice. Please call your parents tomorrow. Talk with your mom. She loves you and is worried about you. As a parent, I assure you you only have to reach out to your family. They love you for who you are, not because you attend 5 meetings a week and make comments.
Everyone deserves to be loved for who they are. No one deserves abuse. Any man who abuses his wife is not a real man.. You are young and this is a very painful situaion. Learn to love yourself and celebrate yourself. God loves you for the beautiful person you are and you do yourself a disservice to yourself by entertaining the thought of returning to a dangerous living enviornment. You deserve a husband who loves you, cherishes you and keeps you safe. You deserve a husband who makes you feel good about yourself.
