I follow it but with less enthusiasm with all the doping scandals. It looks to be very interesting this year. I am supporting Vinokurov and Cadel Evans.
Open Mind, you were that strong?

i remember a topic a couple months ago, something about whether the gb actually believed in what they taught.
other topics have been similar lately, and today i noticed the topic about google 'proving' that the wts deliberately lies.
but is it deliberate?
I believe more in the cognitive dissonance than deliberate lying.
so i have the friday of the district assembly behind me.
i have learned;.
i need to cancel my cable so i can study more and read the bible more and have less temptation to buy "new toys"i need to sell my house and buy an ol' fixer upper so my wife can stop working and pioneeri need to sell all my "toys" and my cari need to trust the fds implicitly because jehovah does.i need to pray more, study more, preach more, go to more meetings, etc.
I need to trust the FDS implicitly because Jehovah does.
A JW told me that at a convention he attended an illustration was given on this point: If you assign a work in the house (such as painting) to someone you will not stay behind him the whole day watching what he does, continually check his work, give him counsel, etc... it is the same with Jehovah and the FDS. He assigned a work and leaves it up to them to do it their way.
I was horrified. Nothing could be more mind controlling than such an example.
Did you hear something similar?
i'm on revelation duty again this week.
i figure if i'm marking it, i can comment on it, too.
http://reactor-core.org/faith-on-the-march.html (faith on the march page 47 and 48).
this study made me vomit. for the first time in my life I did not give one single comment. conductor said "for 607 historians support it" OMG ignorance is truly bliss.
using the statements from the wts publications, it is possible to recreate the accepted list of babylonian kings along with the lengths of their reigns.. http://au.geocities.com/doug_mason1940/wts_support_for_the_babylonian_king-list.pdf.
doug.
excellent work Doug.
I believe the WTS realised they made a major mistake in endorsing Babylonian chronology and are now more vague on Evil Merodach (Insight referst to Josephus claiming Evil Merodach reigned 18 years).
As I posted somewhere else, they cannot change the length of reigns of Nebuchadnezzar and Nabonidus, therefore the only way to find the 20 missing years is to either add new kings or extend the rulerships of Evil Merodach, Neriglissar and Labashi Marduk. Both options are close to impossible (I would say impossible, but impossible is nothing) given how well documented is the period.
this has possibly been posted before (i hadn't seen it) - i found it a fascinating read - well done alanf for fronting it up..... it can also be found online at http://www.reexamine.org/wtobserver/apps/pbcs.dll/article86c8.html?aid=/20040309/history/204007.
interview with a watchtower society author on wednesday, 27 august 1997, i met with harry peloyan for about 1 1/2 hours in the lobby of the 25 columbia heights bethel office in brooklyn, new york.
my purpose was to discuss problems with the creation book with him, since he is its main author.
As for Ray Franz, he had the humility -- ultimately -- to admit that for many years he had lied to himself.
ultimately, one day, even harry may see that he has lied to himself all his life. It is quite interesting how our mind works and how we all constantly have the tendency of deceiving ourselves.
Of course it makes a huge difference (on the effect) if you are the US president (and believe Saddam Hussein has WMD), the director of a newspaper, the head of an organisation or if what you say/write does not affect anyone.
every so often it is mentioned that donations are decreasing.
i have never heard that directly from the publications or from the platform.
this is the only place where i have seen this claim.. is there anything factual to this?
at our hall, where several congregations meet, I regularly check the account reports. contributions average at about USD10 per publisher every month.
i am a disfellowshipped j.w.
single mom that needs a ride cause i have to walk with a stroller with my 4 yr. old toddler to the oakland congreations on oakland st. this is a very dangerous area of the city and because its blocks away from frankford ave. and lights and stores we could be attacked.
please email me at: [email protected] if you are going to the same hall and also trying to be reinstated.
Hi ladyofsmiles,
welcome to the forum. Just a short story, one evening after our meeting I saw in the main hall a DF woman that attends a different congregation. She comes to the hall with three small children, one severely disabled. No help from anyone. takes public transportation and walks. It is too bad my car is already full as I would take her and wait for comments. I could not imagine Jesus dealing with her the way she is being dealt with.
My point is, brothers and sisters should take you.
I will not question why you want to go back. I do not judge anyone. It might be the best option for you, so I wish you the best of luck.
what are the top 5 books you would either recommend and/or have had the greatest influence on you?
(if you only want to mention one or two that's fine as well.).
if you feel like it, please briefly tell us why.
why we believe what we believe, great book a must read for all JW.
not completed yet but great so far, mistakes were made but not by me and don't believe everything you think. very similar to why we believe what we believe analysing how our mind works and typical mistakes and bias that influence our thinking and behavior.
Sorry but I did not find unusual suspects that special. probably because my expectations were so high due other people recommendation. still it is a good movie, definitely worth watching.
i take a chance and start my first thread :.
as it has been posted quite a few times lately, there has been a noticeable increase in the posting population on this board (i've added my bit) in the latest few months.
the consequence is that it takes an awfull time to read these posts -all the more so when one is a non native english writer- and one may feel that any posting we would like to do will be diluted in the whole lot, and/or come too late.
I have the same problem aligot.
It would help if all those that open a new topic were more specific with the description of the subject. There are many that I do not open due to lack of time, but that could possibly be interesting. ...if only the author said what it is about rather than using a vague sentence.
