District Conventions are awful if you have kids. (Learn why!)
by easyreader1970 ini know that many of you have not been to distric conventions in some time, but what i am about to describe is a recent trend.. 1. more people than seats.
for the past six or seven years, they've tried cramming too many congregations into one convention hall at one time.
in many cases, if you do not get to the convention more than an hour before the program starts and you need more than a couple of seats, you cannot find seats.

15) What else can we learn from Israel's Exodus from Egypt? That we must obey Jehovah no matter what he asks us to do. The Israelites were obedient in carrying out the detailed preparations for the Passover. They obediently stayed indoors during the night of Nisan 14. When they finally left Egypt, they had to go "in battle formation." (Exodus 13:18) Today, it is so important that we follow the guidance that comes to us through "the faithful and discreet slave"! (Matthew 24:45) We have to listen very carefully to God's word behind us, saying: "'This is the way. Walk in it, you people,' in case you people should go to the right or in case you should go to the left." (Isaiah 30: 21) As we get nearer to the outbreak of the great tribulation, we may well receive some detailed instructions. Our safe journey through those troublesome days will depend on our keeping in step with other loyal servants of Jehovah.
16) Remember, too, that Jehovah diverted the Israelites into a position where they appeared to be trapped between the mountains on the one side and the Red Sea on the other. It just did not seem to be the right move. But Jehovah had everything in hand, and all worked out to his praise and to the salvation of his people. Today, we may not clearly see why some organizational matters are handled in a certain way, but we have every reason to trust in Jehovah's guidance through his faithful channel of communication. At times, our enemies may seem to be getting the upper hand. From our limited perspective, we may not be able to see the whole picture. Still, Jehovah is capable of maneuvering matters at the right moment, just as he did back there for the sons of Israel. -Proverbs 3:5.
Brainwashing paragraphs of the year!
I wonder how JW's would feel reading similar reasonings in a publication of another religious group... but of course JW's are right and other groups are wrong ;-)

Crisis of Conscience as an e-book?
by Mickey mouse inthis is a suggestion really, i don't know if it's in the right sub-forum.
i have read the chapters available online via wikipedia but the risk involved in ordering the book to read the rest is just too great.
does anyone who knows ray franz feel that they could approach him about getting the book made available to purchase online as an e-book?
-
jeanV
Thanks Mickey Mouse, I brought up the subject more than once and it is good that others do, too.
btw I managed to download both books by Ray Franz from emule.... not that I liked doing it, but it was the safest way for me. If they become available as e-books I will purchase them to support him.
Having books shipped to the work address is ok, but then where do you keep them?

the difference compared to last year is that there was no overall goal of x no. of pioneers. was it because last year the goal was not reached in most countries?

HOW can a Jdub accept BLOOD FRACTIONS?? hmm?
by martinwellborne ini thought the main thing with the blood issue was that it was to be viewed from god's point of view.
not that it would be up to individual choice and conscience.
my point that i am trying to get to is this, how can a jdub accept blood fractions if they want to view blood in the same light as god would.. am i making this clear?

every JW should read the Jensen letters. if those do not open their eyes on the subject, nothing will.

Is WTS chronology flawed?
by cultswatter inhistorians agree that jerusalem was invaded by babylon in 586/587bce.
the wts discredits most historical records and says that jerusalem was invaded in 607bce.
the wts start with 587 and add the 70 years that jerusalem lay desolate to obtain the 607 date.. if jerusalem was invaded in 587 then it lay desolate for only 50 years (587-537=50).

I guess scholar is being obedient to KM9/07 QB

Dear Scholar,
sorry but it took a long time to reply as I am working on several projects. I hope you are still following the board and will read this post despite KM9/07 ;-)
I tried to obtain Furuli’s books through eisenbrauns but both volumes are out of stock (I guess volume 2 is not published yet).
Anyway, through a friend I received copies of the pages you had mentioned in this thread. As a matter of fact they do not correspond to what I had asked you. I had wished to receive chronology tables from different scholars disagreeing among themselves on the Neo-Babylonian timelines.
Furuli in that specific chapter borrows from Sack that is listing all the historical sources that mention Amel-Marduk.
It is not a list of scholars with different chronologies and I seriously doubt you would find such a list. I haven’t come across it so far and believe me, I am consulting all possible sources. There are of course discussions and debates on the details but not on the main timeline.
Furuli fails to mention (maybe he does it in other parts of the book) that Sack upholds the generally accepted chronology. He also fails to mention that there are explanation for the discrepancies between the historical sources, which are given by Sack (as there are discrepancies between ancient Bible manuscripts, for example).
In the typical WT style (permit me to say that it is not a scholarly approach), Furuli focuses on the discrepancies to try to undermine the whole chronology forgetting that the general picture is quite clear. It is very interesting the efforts he puts in questioning Berossus, while he does not put any effort at all in questioning the later sources and why they differ from Berossus. Would you for example accept whatever is in the Septuagint without checking what does the Masoretic text say and try to understand why there are discrepancies?
With Furulis’ approach you can virtually support any theory, it is sufficient to focus just on what interests you and discard all the rest.
In all honesty Scholar, the more I dig into it there more I see that the WT chronology does not have legs to even stand.
