Can you name ONE thing that the WTBTS said that came true?
by megsmomma ingarybuss said not one single thing they told him about in his younger years (since the 50's) came true.
it made me think....does anyone know of anything they said that was/is right?????
?

I think that God has a really great sense of humor.....the WTB&TS has missed 100% of their "prophetically" channeled messages from God to the GB 100% of the time!!!!!
Statistically, they should have gotten at least ONE right out of the hundreds they've spewed out over the last 100+ yrs. To me, this says that God has tweaked the numbers to let everyone see just how UN-Godly they are. He lets honest hearted JW's seeking the real truth see for themselves how far from Him the GB and FDS really are and where all that "channeling" is really coming from.

Cacer and sex
by lighthouse19something inyears ago in the awake, they had an article about cancer causes.
i'm trying to find the date, but it said cervical cancer can be caused by women having multiple partners, and even said one type of cancer was caused by celibacy.. does anyone remember the article?.
-
ajwnm
The likelihood of you getting cervical cancer increases with the number multiple sexual partners you have because you are more likely to be exposed to the HPV that causes that type of cancer. I find it ironic that there are commercials all over TV now proclaiming how a vaccine can help prevent HPV caused cancers. I don't ever remember seeing one single public service announcements or public health commercials about choosing abstainence to prevent cancer- not ONE in 40 years. Yet I can recall some of those cute commercials about condoms, foam, etc.
Guess the public health depts were too interested in pushing their own agendas to offer info about why NOT having sex could be a HEALTHY alternative for young women- expecially over the long term.

300 million year old rock
by startingover in300 million year old rock.
a 6,000 year old rock is the answer because god said so.
that answer is the scientific method.
-

Good article. I do have a question, tho. Has there ever been the finding of a newly created rock? I can't ever remember reading about some scientist excitedly exclaiming that he has found a new rock- one less than a year old, or something like that. You can watch new rocks being thrown out of the mouths of volcanos but they are not catergorized as "new rocks". Has anyone ever read about a newly discovered new rock????

Those who are 50+, do you remember that there was an ice age coming?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini distinctly remember this from my childhood.
i believe lots of concern and i suppose it was from the scientific community.
now it's global warming, and i'm hearing that 99.9% of the "creditable" scientists believe it.

I remember this very vividly. This all took place in the late 60's and early 70's.The same people were running around predicting the end of oil and gas supplies by the mid 90's, that food would disappear and BILLIONS would starve. Since that didn't work to achieve their political agenda, they resorted to the global warming scare in the 90's. Since EVERYTHING happens on earth in cyclical patterns, they are bound to be right occasionally. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Ever since I read about the tropical jungles frozen under the Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets hundreds to thousands of feet thick, I discount any and all "chicken little" hysterical ravings- especially those of the earth worshipping, tree hugging, far left types.
As for the 99.9% of "scientists" who agree with global warming- MOST serious scientists do not think that our climate is significantly impacted by anything puny man can do but natural earth forces that have always worked in very long cycles thruout history. When the "scientific community" gets a conscience and starts to take ,and look at ,data in a rational, non-biased way, I'll, MAYBE, begin to listen to their hysterical ravings. But the 1st thing they'll have to do is move their national gas monitoring devices (for CO2, CO and other nasty HUMAN made gasses) from the the mouth of that ACTIVE volcano in Hawaii. That's where they measure gas emissions, supposedly due to man's impact on the environment. Talk about a stacked deck. This tells me that the majority of "scientists" are just as willing to use biased info to achieve their agendas as anyone else. They are human and are as biased, unethical, unprincipaled and willing to "tweak" data to achieve their pre planned results as others.

Lineage of Mary?
by NanaR ini hope someone here can help me with this question.
i seem to remember very strongly from my jw upbringing having been taught that while matthew gave the lineage of jesus through joseph, luke gave the lineage through mary.
i recently became somewhat interested in the catholic faith.

Taken from an article by Chuck Missler........
God announced very early that His plan for redemption involved the Messiah being brought forth from the tribe of Judah1, and specifically from the line of David2. The succession of subsequent kings proved to be, with only a few exceptions, a dismal chain. As the succeeding kings of Judah went from bad to worse, we eventually encounter Jeconiah (also known as Jehoiachin), upon whom God pronounces a " blood curse" : "Thus saith the Lord, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah."(Jeremiah 22:30)
This curse created a rather grim and perplexing paradox: the Messiah had to come from the royal line, yet now there was a "blood curse" on that very line of descent! (I always visualize a celebration in the councils of Satan on that day. But then I imagine God turning to His angels, saying, "Watch this one!")
The Solution
The answer emerges in the differing genealogies of Jesus Christ recorded in the gospels. Matthew, as a Levi, focuses his gospel on the Messiahship of Jesus and presents Him as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Thus, Matthew traces the legal line from Abraham (as any Jew would) through David, then through Solomon (the . royal. line) to Joseph, the legal father of Jesus3.
On the other hand, Luke, as a physician, focuses on the humanity of Jesus and presents Him as the Son of Man. Luke traces the blood line from Adam (the first Man) through to David -- and his genealogy from Abraham through David is identical to Matthew's. But then after David, Luke departs from the path taken by Matthew and traces the family tree through another son of David (the second surviving son of Bathsheba), Nathan, down through Heli, the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus4.
Zelophehad
One should also note the exception to the law which permitted inheritance through the daughter if no sons were available and she married within her tribe5.
The daughters of Zelophehad had petitioned Moses for a special exception, which was granted when they entered the land under Joshua.
I believe it was C.I. Scofield who first noted that the claims of Christ rely upon this peculiar exception granted to the family of Zelo-phehad in the Torah. Heli, Mary's father, apparently had no sons, and Mary married within the tribe of Judah. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, of the house and lineage of David and carrying legal title to the line, but without the blood curse of Jeconiah. [I believe that every detail in the Torah -- and the entire Bible -- has a direct link to Jesus Christ. "The volume of the book is written of me." (Psalm 40:7) [For a more detailed discussion, watch for our new book, Cosmic Codes -- Hidden Messages from the Edge of Eternity, presently in publication.]
Earlier Glimpse
This was no afterthought or post facto remedy, of course. It was first announced in the Garden of Eden when God declared war on Satan: " I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."(Genesis 3:15)
The "Seed of the Woman" thus becomes one of the prophetic titles of the Messiah. This biological contradiction is the first hint -- in the early chapters of Genesis -- of the virgin birth.
John also presents a genealogy, of sorts, of the Pre-Existent One in the first three verses of his gospel6. The Prophet Micah also highlights this: " But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."(Micah 5:2)..................
I think thatthis is as reasonable an explanation as any regarding the lineage of Mary.
