Growing up a Jehovah's Witness - New Video

i have put together a video - growing up a jehovah's witness 1960 -2010. it aims to show the things a witnesses would be taught as they age over those decades.

it is 15 minutes long.

this is my first attempt at a video and it took a while to work out how to use final cut, so please feel free to make suggestions if anything should be changed.

Very, very nice. My favorite part was your point at the end that the responsibility lies with the education system to promote critical thinking. I couldn't agree more.

You have a very clear voice and I think your accent is perfect for the narative.

It seems a shame to offer any criticism when the message and portrayal is so great, but it's just minor things that I found a bit distracting.

Mentioned, the text quotes didn't match the audio quotes.

In the first case, the background audio track changed in the middle of a slide.

A couple instances of an additional sound track made it a bit difficult to hear. Speaking + baby crying + music.

Final song was a bit loud. I think it would be a bit more powerful to have the background track alot lower until you are done speaking and then slowly increase the volume to the level you were speaking at for the credits.

These are just my perceptions and I feel a bit hypocritical as the video is far beyond what I could personally do.

You could agree, then sit down and ask to read a scripture first.

Matthew 7:1-2

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Then ask her if Jehovah has revealed to her how he has judged your heart condition, because he is the only one that can.

that question has been asked to me countless times ever since i can remember.

) reluctantly, i would quickly put an end to their thinkg with a swift, "no".. four days ago, after a couple of very strenuous months (years if you count the time i didn't except myself), i came out to my cousin (roommate).

I used to cosplay as a door to door religion salesman when I was little. I even had a little suit.

So after this experience my view on my life actually changed dramatically and a few true miracles have happened; in a crazy short amount of time to boot.

It is a good experience and I'm glad it changed your life for the better. But just to play devil's advocate, if you hadn't had the above mentioned experience, would you have viewed the proceeding events as miracles?

When I was in my teens, I prayed for a sign and got exactly what I prayed for. It was a small thing and afterwards I was kicking myself that I didn't ask for a better sign. Before that incident, as well as after, my life has really been filled with small "miracles". I really don't ask or pray for anything, but things just work out. Even major things. If I was of a diest mindset, I would be completely convinced that my life was being blessed by God. But I'm not.

Millions of prayers go unanswered every day from people in desperate need. If God is blessing my life, a heathen and unbeliever rather than protecting the poor, weak and sick of the world, crying out for his help, it's a pretty messed up system.

i am picketing the assembly....i know many on here think that is nuts.

but at 84 i can do what i ruddy well like.12 noon i will stand with another bloke.

whos wife is a jw & it is destroying their marriage...the kitchener auditorium.

It would be great to dress up in 1940's outfits and protest the witnesses using slogans from back then. I'd love to protest the current witnesses' disgusting use of alluminum, lol.

How important are God and Jesus to you?

i ask this question because it goes to:.

- how disposed to objectively considering contrarian evidence you are, and.

- how much i might be messing with your life and happiness by helping you see things the way i do.. i read the posts of many people on this board who are apparently happy, even deliriously happy, with their theism.

I really try to maintain a true agnostic view because the issue really is impossible to know. It's difficult at times to be open minded when the debate is so polarized. Sometimes I remember when I did believe and how frustrating it was. If anything, it was the closest to being suicidal I ever was. If so much wonder and happiness awaited us after our deaths, it didn't make sense to me to endure a life of constant pain and mockery.

Sometimes I am a bit jealous of the certainty some people of faith have. But I am reminded that I have a level of mental freedom that I can live my life how I choose, rather than following the directions of a man/organization/book. To me, that's important.

I tried to reorganize our schedule so we could drop by with some cold lemonaid and friendly faces to support, but we have a family event from 10:00-11:00. Not enough time to get there after.

I know I gave Rick an blast for his appearance at a protest, but I'm not against protests at all. In my opinion, they can be quite effective if done with a bit of planning.

One suggestion I have would be to call local news outlets and let them know you are protesting the assembly, what time and why. If you can get some press it might work as a two edged sword. Witnesses may have already contacted the press hoping to get a favorable puff piece in the news, and if witnesses observe those "dirty apostates" talking to the press, you can bet they will be watching the news to see what was said.

Forgive me, I haven't seen what message you plan to protest with, but given your posting history, I don't see you as protesting with hate language which can be important. Sensationalised messages are easily dismissed.

Think of me next year, I'll come protest with you.

PS. I think a great message would be to expose the money making structure of the assemblies, especially protesting at a WT assembly hall. If they read that message, then go inside and listen to the afternoon accounts report, they just might start to wonder why the expenses are so high and do a bit of research online to see if there is an answer. We all know what happens when witnesses start looking for answers online.
