Something doesn't make sense to me though:

The first round of charges were then filed today by Mr Steven Unthank.

I'm not familiar with Australian law, but can a civillian file criminal charges? Also, given that the charges are against a US corporation and US citizens, is it even enforceable?

Given my limited legal knowledge, I would expect that prosecuters will talk to WT lawyers and agree to a much smaller fine and adopt the safety protocols. Then, proactively they will likely make it standard for all countries like they did with the donation arangement.

Demos on the platform versus actual reality in FS

we've all seen these demos a million times... perfectly rehearsed mini-dramas at the end of the theocratic school and during the service meetings (usually played by the same "exemplary" publishers and pioneers of the elite congo clique).

you know what i'm talking about... the ones where they always speak the right words and cite the "appropriate" proof texts in perfect harmony with borg guidelines.

so much so, that new "studies" or visitors who are unfamiliar with these "elite" brothers and sisters are completely awe-struck by their enthusiasm, "spirituality" and eloquence displayed on stage.. but then an inexplicable "phenomena" unfolds every saturday at 9am.

I was very good at impromptu talks and last minute stuffs that I often got picked by elders to help fill in gaps. One particular elder (widely rumored to be a pedophile) asked me to fill in for a demo he worked into his talk at the last minute. Litterally the last minute, he asked for a volunteer from the congregation to play the householder and when nobody raised their hand he told me to come up on stage.

I was a bit annoyed so after he went though his opening spiel I replied that I was Hindu. He had no idea so he said something to the effect of "well you are still familiar with the bible, right?" and I agreed that the bible played a minor part of the vedas (collection of holy writings).

He stared at me while the congregation roared in laughter. Then dismissed me from the platform and played both parts of the demonstration.

Did you fake underlining the WT?

i read on another topic " i remember when i used to carry microphones years ago in the jw cult- only about 30 % had their wt's pre-studied, the rest just wing it i truly believe" and it reminded me that people will assume you are not familiar with the material if you have not underlined, and that there will always be those who observe the lack of ink and consider you must be unprepared (and so 'weaker' than them).. many times i used to fake prestudy just for that reason.

its easy to do, underline a random sentence or 2 in each paragraph or the sited scripture.

you can wizz through an entire article in 3 minutes....did anyone else do that?.

Fake underlining was better with a highlighter. Very bright and noticable!

Question for the Athiests/Agnostics

some people feel they need a religion, and need to attend a church.

if such a person starts questioning the watchtower and they asked you "where else to go?

", what would you recommend?.

The "where else to go" is a defense mechanism. If you suggest anything, they are trained to look at all the faults of that religion (while not looking for faults in their own) to feel better that they have the right religion.

If someone is sincerely asking where else to go, they will have already left the witnesses in my opinion.

NY Catholic Church on new gay marriage law

i can't verify this online but a catholic told me the churches all had a liturgy on how bad gay marriage is and handed out a flyer to remind all members specifically what the church's position was on it.

as if a reminder was needed.. now, call me opinionated, but sheesh.

i get it, the bible condemns it, blahbety blah blah blah.

I had recently read an article that mentioned that here in Canada, gay marriage has been legally allowed for a while now and so I did some research to see how that would affect not only witnesses, but all religions here.

Somewhat shocked to discover that the laws that allow gay marriage as well as adding protection for gays under our charter of rights each have a specific clause exempting religions from following it.

Something absoluting disheartening to read official legislation stating that there would be no tollerance of hate speech towards gays... except for religions who are exempt from the hate speech law.

I think it's fairly safe to say that most women, celebrity or not would not welcome advances from the current boyfriend of one of their relatives. So to answer your question, you'd likely have less of a chance of getting with her if you date this woman than if you just met her on the street.

So officially, you would need to find a way to divide "no chance in hell" by zero.

I remember in service as a child when the householder asked if we were part of any charities. I proudly mentioned a recent earthquake where we sent truckloads of aid. He followed up asking if we helped everyone who needed it or just witnesses.

This comment bugged me so after we got back to the car I asked why we didn't help others first, since it would obviously be an excellent witness. The elder tried reasoning with me in the form of an illustration.

If a house was burning down that had both my mother and a stranger inside and you could only rescue one, who would it be?

I quickly replied, the stranger, since my mom already has the resurection hope.

He scowled and changed the subject.

It's amazing how different the organization looks through the eyes of a child.
