How important is it to you that Lawence Hughes wins his case against the WT and doctors

in my opinion it is the most importantr thing ex jws should be supporting right now.

the case is at a crucial point.

I always seem to be on the contrary end of most public opinions here.

I lived in Calgary when this happened and it was covered quite publically in the local news. From what I saw, I wasn't at all impressed with Mr. Hughes handling of the matter. While I applaud tackling the WT over the blood issue, I disagree with suing the hospital and doctors involved. The requests for money usually don't highlight that the WT isn't even attached to the suit anymore. It just seems dishonest.

Also, if my memory serves me correctly, the debacle with a poster a few years ago who was always begging for help and receiving it, only for it to be revealed that she made the whole thing up. People felt hurt and betrayed and the admins made the decision to moderate any requests for money. Since that time I have received two bulk PMs from Mr. Hughes asking for money.

That's my second issue. His only contact with the members here seems to be creating new accounts asking for money. I know he feels this lawsuit is important, but why isn't respecting the site owner and the members here also important?

I honestly think this article is quite damaging to the WT's reputation if any active witness ever saw it.

The WT likes to portray themselves as champions of free speech and fighting for the underdog in courts, but this clearly shows them money grubbing and trying to strong-arm individuals over money.

Where is the glory to Jehovah in fighting over a dead man's cash?

Sad.

One doesn't have to like everyone, but that doesn't make you enemies.

I like that.

Personally, I don't like the format the Rick uses. Everything about the way he approaches issues feels like an elder talking to me.

I don't go out of my way to read or comment on his every post, but I don't hide my opinion either.

he asked me about the place i moved to last year.

i told him it was ok, maintenence are a little slow fixing problems, and there has been crime lately.

i said most of the developments around here are nice and peaceful except one up the road which is considered the hood lol.

his reaction wasnt as liberal as i hoped it would be.

he said that we needed to discuss it.

however, gone are the days where im putting myself in the firing line and not sticking up for myself.

My question would be, why did you even mention it to the Pastor? I think it may be a lingering trait from being a witness, seeking approval for your lifestyle.

If it was important to you, you could have asked the Pastor what the church's stance on homosexuality is since that was the whole intent of the conversation I think. As I read your post, it almost seemed like you were asking for permission to join the church as a gay man.

I might be out in left field here, but I think you need to put less emphasis on being a "gay person" and focus on being a "person that is gay". You come first, meet and get to know people as a person, not a sexual orrientation.

i was a poor jw.

lived in the worst part of town.. there were rich jws in our congregation, or so it seemed.

they had businesses, lived in a nice part of town, always a new car, etc.

The ones I knew that were fairly well off, usually had a full roster of witnesses on payroll. One of them insisted on paying all his employees as contractors so he could avoid paying for benefits.

i have long had an idea that i think is a very powerful tool in reaching even hard-nosed jw's.. .

it would consist only of actual photographic scans of various documents, articles, photographs such as these from marvin shilmer's blog: (see next panel).

there would be no extraneous non-official text whatsoever.. it would be published the size of an old life magazine and sent anonymously to jw's at their homes.. the cover would clearly contain the words: "all contents originally published by watchtower bible &tract society".

Suggestions for finally talking to my parents about my doubts?

i'll give my story again:.

i was raised a believing witness.

i had a normal life and very loving parents who would do anything for me and my brother(who is 21).

I was in a very similar situation. I had a very loving caring family. We were always family first, everything else second, even meetings.

After my wife left, I could no longer pretend I was still a witness. I had small children and didn't want to teach them to lie and hide the truth from my parents. I would have classified my dad as having doubts himself, but he was the one that was the most verbal against my leaving. My mom did the nice little witness thing and pretend she had an open mind to try to change mine.

After all was said and done, they told me that so long as I didn't disassociate myself we'd be fine as a family. They thanked me for being open and honest with them.

One week later my mom calls up to say that she can't support my decision and that I am sinning against Jehovah. They couldn't associate with my wife and I, but wanted to make arrangements to see the grandkids. I firmly told them that our family was a package deal and that was almost 5 years ago. In that time I have seen them once a year to drop off pictures of our kids and give them an anniversary card. Even though they refuse to have anything to do with us, they have it in their minds that we are doing it to them.

Before talking to your family, you really need to decide if you are ready to give them up. If you are not ready for that, I would caution against talking to them.

my town will no longer collect old books like that as trash and they're pretty hard to burn.

my solution has been to include one in every bag of used cat litter when i clean the cat boxes.

i've gotten rid of around 30 that way and i'm about halfway there.
