What is the deal with Moses? A rant on absurdity in the Bible.

the other day i was reading about moses and i came to the very popular part of the golden calf.

but now, with a little maturity and freedom from the clutches of witness thought i can see some terrible problems with the bible.

in the beginning of exodus 32 god is talking to moses and sees that the israelites have made a calf out of gold and they are using it as their god.

Well, the most obvious reason that God didn't choose to have David be persecuted by his enemies was stated by David himself. He asked not to fall on the hands of humans because they wouldn't be as merciful as God is. So, if David were to have been persecuted by his enemies as his punishment, then he could've died. And what do you think would've happened if David had died? God's promise of a Messiah wouldn't have been fulfilled in him.

I just saw something in the Bible that might explain why it was a sin for David to count Israel.

Exodus 30:11-15 says that whenever Israel was to be numbered or summed, they had to give sacrifices and it specifically states what was to be offered and how much. When David took the census, it doesn't say he offered any sacrifices at all.

Plus, it was Satan who instigated David into doing it. And 1 Chronicle 21:3 states that Joab knew it was wrong as soon as David ordered him to take a census of the people of Israel. So maybe David just wanted to pride himself based on the position of king knowing that thousands of people were under his command. Anyway, I still think the biggest "sin" was not the counting itself, but not offering sacrifices when the census was takn as God had told Moses.

Morocco, First, it wasn't Aaron's idea. Verse 1 of chap 1 says that THE PEOPLE asked Aaron to make a god for them. And also, Aaron wasn't the only one who made the false god. He obviously had helped from other people. And he wasn't the only one who was not punished. All the Levites were forgiven. After Moses went down from the Mountain, he asked everyone who was on God's side and the Levites showed they were by moving to Moses' side. This could explain that they weren't wholeheartedly rebellious/idolaters and that's probably why God forgave them. justahuman - but super nonetheless

Scientology??

well i know very little about scientology, but from what i have seen on this board, alot of xjw's feel it is even worse than jw's.

what is it about scientology that makes it seem worse?

the reason i ask is i was passing through cincinnati the other day returning home from dayton and there was a scientology church in downtown cincinnati.

They have weird beliefs. They belief that the universe was created by aliens, I think. Lots of famous people are Scientologists. John Travolta, Tom Cruise, etc. They also ask for lots of money and prohibit the taking of medicine and psychological/psychiatric therapy if someone gets sick. justahuman - but supernonetheless

If you are talking about the God of the Bible, yes he can read minds and hearts. He knows everyone's emotions but most of the times, he chooses not to. What do you think happens when someone decides to pray in silence? God still "hears" our prayers because he knows what's in your mind and heart. justahuman - but super nonetheless

Was C.T. Russell all that bad?

disclaimer: this is a question purely about russell's bible teaching, not about his personal life, whether he was a freemason or whatever else.. ok, russell set himself up as a bible teacher, a lot of his theology was borrowed from groups such as the adventists and certain pyramidologists of his time, and i agree that a lot of his conclusions were plain crazy.

my question is this - was the movement he started simply another misguided christian denomination with genuine motives as opposed to what happened after rutherford took over and added all the dogmas?

does russell bear any of the blame for what the wbts has become?.

IMO, I think he was sincere in what he believed without any malice. He definitely was not a control freak like Rutherford and posterior WTS presidents. He was more in association with other preachers and denominations than the WTS ever was. And even though he attacked the Catholic Church, he didn't do it so angrily like Rutherford and other presidents did. He was friendlier.

WOW!!!

I just read the other thread that talked about this. It's unbelievable. I mean, I know talks with a religious leader is supposed to be confidential but if he's a fugitive and if he really has become a "true Christian" to the point of getting baptized, he should hand himself in to the authorities. And it's just wrong on part of the Society to ask the elders to keep it hush hush. I mean, what if he kills someone else in the congregation?

Who's Death Most Affects You?? President Ford's or James Brown???

Neither, I guess.

James Brown was never a favorite of mine. I didn't listen to his music or anything. He danced well, that's about all I know.

Now Ford. Well, some people view him as a good president but I think that he did wrong by granting a presidential pardon to Nixon for the Watergate scandal. He should've let him go to jail. He deserved it for being corrupt and for later trying to hide evidence that was bound to incriminate him.
