Ancient idols?
by thebiggestlie insomething that has always puzzled me was the descriptions of solomon's temple as well as the golden snake in moses day.
with giant angel statues in the holy of holies and the golden bulls and the countless other "graven" images in the temple that were supposedly god approved.
how was this not blatent idolatry.

Well, not really. The difference is that those "graven images" that were in the temple Solomon built were mostly for decoration or to represent what was in heaven. They were not prayed to or asked to intercede for anyone. All worship went to God not to the images at all.
I forget where in the Bible it is, but the snake that was built in the desert to heal the Israelites from snake bites was later worshiped or given undue honor.worship in the time of Hezekiah and Hezekiah, as part of him re-establishing pure/clean worship based on the Mosaic Law, got rid of it and destroyed it. God didn't punish him for getting rid of the snake because it wasn't built for the purpose of being worshiped.

Not to detract from the main topic of this thread but did anyone notice the last sentence: "Either thus was Eve represented in the great ransom or by her husband as her "head"-else mother Eve was not ransomed at all, a thought which would conflict with other scriptures." You can ask any JW today and they will say that Eve was not redeemed/ransomed and that IT'S BASED ON THE SCRIPTURES. Just saying, that's all. justahuman - but super nonetheless

Bible verses that seem contradictory.....................
by JH inafter telling us that only jehovah was god, and he was our only heavenly father, this verse below really bugged me when i first saw it.. isaiah 9:5. for there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder.
and his name will be called wonderful counselor, mighty god, eternal father, prince of peace..

The meaning of names is not that important. For example, Immanuel can be applied to Jesus and ONLY to Jesus because who else in the universe is more like God than Jesus? It doesn't specifically mean Jesus is God nor does it imply it.
I am not a JW anymore and don't agree with many of their procedures/teachings but I really don't see any contradiction. I mean, even Jesus told the Pharisees that human judges were called "gods" by God Himself. And Jesus although not God, is right up there, closer than anyone else in the whole universe!

by avidbiblereader ini have always had a problem with this from the scriptures, i understand the old law and replacing the passover but those laws did not apply to the new covenant and my question centers around pauls words to the 1 cor 11.
1 cor 11:17-20 .
17but, while giving these instructions, i do not commend you because it is, not for the better, but for the worse that you meet together.18for first of all, when you come together in a congregation, i hear divisions exist among you; and in some measure i believe it.19for there must also be sects among you, that the persons approved may also become manifest among you.

Well, I think it's every year because again, it was supposed to replace the Jewish Passover. And it was mentioned that the Last Supper celebration's details were common knowledge back then so that's why Paul didn't go into details and since most of the first Christians were Jews, it is very likely they celebrated it every year on Nisan 14. In fact, it's said that the churches of the east (asia minor) did this and Polycarp is known to have followed in this tradition which he said he received from the Apostles or those who knew the apostles. He even went to Rome to talk to the "bishop" of rome because they didn't follow such tradition.
Just bcz Paul says "as often" doens't mean or imply it should be done every day or every week. bcz for that matter, then it'd be better to do it back to back, many times a day. I go with every year based on the Jewish calendar like Polycarp did.

a few times they give the different years that a book was published.
most of us know the wt has edited their books to omit many of the changes they have made along the way.
